How long should I wait to hear from my incarcerated boyfriend?

My boyfriend was just arrested for a technical parole violation two days ago. I heard what happened and set up the messaging app and I put some money on there so we would be able to communicate. It has been two full days this evening and I have still not heard from him. My contact request was approved and I can see when he’s online but he didn’t message. I know he’s probably processing initial shock, has to take care of business/talk to close family, and only gets a certain amount of time to message and talk. But I would’ve thought he could say something. We’ve been together six months. When should I send another message and how long of no contact before I assume the relationship is over? Things seemed great before this happened but I can’t wait forever to hear from him. I don't know how long he will even be there but if it’s not long I’m willing to wait for him if it’s what we both want

Hey girl, I totally get why you'd be worried after not hearing from him yet. Parole stuff can be really stressful. Here are a few thoughts:

- Give it at least a full week before assuming anything's wrong. He's probably overwhelmed sorting things out.

- Send him a short, caring message in a few days like "Thinking of you, hope you're okay. Here if you need anything." Keep it simple and positive.

- Remember it may take a bit for visits/calls to get approved too, so messaging may be his only option for a min.

- Try not to fret too much in the meantime - this is out of your control. Distract yourself with friends/hobbies if you can.

- If after a week there's still radio silence with no explanation, you'll have to decide how long you wait it out.

- He may contact family first to let them know his status before getting on messaging too.

Stay hopeful for now sis! This is all new territory, give him some time. I'm sure once he's settled he'll want to talk to his girl. Let me know if you hear from him - keeping my fingers crossed for you both!
