Unlike cheaters that go behind your back, in open relationships or marriages they actually communicate with each other and even know who they're going to bring home or be intimate with. I guess that counts as honesty. So given there is an agreement, communication, honesty and understanding between them, would that count as a loving, loyal relationship?

I tried to find a couple of YouTube videos for you, but it's like looking for that proverbial needle in a haystack.

Both videos were about polyamory. That word is of Latin origin.

Poly = more than one

Amory = love

So one video was about a poly triad. In this case it was a woman with two boyfriends, and they all lived under the same roof. One of her boyfriends told her that he met someone and was going out on a date! Holy crap! That went over like a fart in church.

There is love and loyalty with honesty in a open relationship but the same time it still equals to lust, and that is one of the main reasons why most open relationships fails. The Couples that can handle it, is very rare but it is still a struggle compared to monogamous relationship. Since the definition of loyalty is giving or showing a firm allegiance to someone, technically it can be argued that since both are honest and still will return back home to them while the others are flings for sex (but no emotional connections), that would be being emotionally loyal. It's different from sexual, physical loyalty.
I don't understand it either. My best friend and her husband are and have always been swingers and are ok with that lifestyle. Yeah I don't understand that.

I am not going to pretend to be an academic, but I think if that's your friend's argument, it is a weak one, personally. It's attempting to change the widely understood and accepted meaning of loyalty in order to create peace in their own mind with living a lifestyle that is not status quo. They've agreed to do that together, which is their choice. But to try to control how they are going to be viewed in a society where that is generally frowned upon? I think that's a little concerning.
