My boyfriend won't wear the gift I gave to him?

All right so I was always a low on budget person but for the people I love I would do anything .. I saved up a fortune ( for approximately one year ) to buy my boyfriend a watch I knew he loved.. but now I never see him wearing it .. and I asked why .. and he said that he only wants to wear it when he goes out , and not when he comes to college.. since he may scratch it or something .. And I think that's just a lame excuse.. If it was something normal I would be fine .. but I worked really hard to buy him that watch and it hurts that I never see him enjoying it ..

Today I told him that it hurts me that he doesn't wear it .. and please wear it next time .. I don't wanna make him do it unwillingly I swear , but I don't know ..anyone knows this feeling ? :(

You can say it’s not your style, but because you received it from the person you love you treasure it. Don’t avoid the gift if it’s not the plague and is not genially embarrassing. When you do that you’re just showing how much value you place the other person in the relationship. I love horses and on our first anniversary he gave me a cheesy horse necklaces. I don’t like it much, (just bc I like horses does not mean I want a bright pink horse necklace) but I wear it because I love him, and I wore it every anniversary date we had. I treasure the necklace bc of its emotional value and for what it means to me. It was not something I would chose for myself and I would have probably scoffed to my friends in the jewelry store when I saw it with them. None the less I love the ugly thing bc he put the thought into it and gave it to me and bc I love him that I treasure it so much. I am not embarrassed to wear it for him because I am not embarrassed about our relationship. If he’s not wearing the watch bc he’s afraid of it getting lost/ruined then don’t get upset with him, he truly loves your gifts. If he never wears it even on special occasions then explain to him why it hurts you so much and see what happens, if he is not wearing your watch bc he does not want to explain you to others he is not worth your devotion and your time. I feel the same way. In our relationship we have passed the boyfriend girlfriend stage and are now engaged. We have been together for 11 years. First anniversary I bought him a discreet bracelet. He wore it a few times then never wore it again. He told me that he was just afraid of getting it scratched up and that he truly treasured it and never wanted it to get lost. I believed him. On our 4th anniversary customized a pocket watch for him. He was so excited about it. It was the happiest I had ever seen him. But he only wares it at Halloween parties and costume events...and now he never wares it. Although he know keeps it in a box along with his bracelet. On our 11th anniversary of this year, is the year we became engaged. I am stationed in Sudan and I thought a nice customized stainless steel promise ring would make a perfect gift.

The 11th anniversary is meant for stainless steel. I thought about the fact he might not want to wear the ring and have people see it so to play down the ring I got him a leather cord so he could ware it under his shirt. He never wares it. I asked him why and he said that he treasured it too much and was afraid of losing it. But he changed his story to “I don’t wear it because you know our friends, I don’t want to explain it to them or answer their questions. I don’t want others to see it and I don’t want to explain it to others.” At this point I am genially hurt.

The bracelet I bought him in high school cost me around $200 and took me months to save up. The pocket watch cost me around $600-700 and took me two years to save up in collage and I put a lot of dam effort into it. The ring cost $1800 and let me tell you it’s a very simplistic not a showoff ring. I did not want him to be embarrassed about it so I kept that in mind while making it for him. That ring cost me 5 paychecks. I am happy he told me the truth but the idiot won’t know what hit him when I get back home from Sudan.

I am taking the ring back and I’m packing out. Any partner whether it be a boy or a grill, who says they don’t want to explain you to others, or explain your relationship, is not worth your love, devotion, and money you spend on their gifts. It’s one thing when they say they are embarrassed by the present you gave them bc it’s not their style, it is on the other hand a completely different when they want to hide how they feel about you from others, or hide their relationship from you from others. And if the jewelry does not have pink unicorns on it and Barbie’s and is not embarrassing on that front, then no one has the excuse to not wear it. Sure don’t wear it all the time, but if your partner gives you a gift you better dam use it/wear it on special occasions like anniversary or on special dates and not at Halloween events. When someone dose that, what kind of message do you think you’re sending out to your partner? You’re telling them you are embarrassed of them.

He probably is honestly scared of ruining it if he wears it too much. My boyfriend got me a white northface that I wanted as a present for Christmas. I already have a black one and he seemed kinda offended that I wore the black one more then my white one. I was just scared that since it was white I might get it dirty if I wore it too often. It honestly wasn't anything against him or the gift I love that jacket I really wanted it.

I understand how you feel, but I beat the crap out of my "everyday watch" and wouldn't wear a nice one everyday for that reason. When I had a nice watch, I only wore it on special occasions, when I wanted to look nice and when I knew it wouldn't get ruined.

The thing is, I really enjoyed having the nice watch and wearing it going out or whatever. The fact that I didn't wear it every day didn't make me appreciate it or like it any less, in fact it made it more special to me that I only wore it when I wanted to look and feel my best. I wouldn't have been happy to have it all torn up from daily wear.

It sounds to me like he's being practical about this. It's similar to guys who have jobs that won't allow them to wear jewelery, not even their wedding ring, because it's a safety hazard. It's not like the guy wants to take off his wedding ring; he HAS to in order to work and be safe.

Try to see this from that perspective. He's not unhappy with your gift at all; he's trying to respect it by keeping it nice.

The thing is that I got him an expensive wallet the birthday before this one .. and he doesn't wear that either for the same reason .. I just hate it how I try to get him stuff that he needs and likes and at the end I never see him enjoying them .. but you ve got a point , thanks for enlightening me! I do have a worry though.. when I told him in the call an hour ago that I want him to wear it next time , he said okay..but a weird okay .. like it came out by force.. and I feel bad about it now :S

I think he probably just doesn't completely understand YOUR perspective, just as you didn't understand his. Men are often VERY practical about things, while women are often emotional about them. Both points of view are valid, but it makes it hard for men and women to understand each other sometimes.

Anyway, I don't think you've done anything wrong, and hopefully he doesn't. Just try to both work on your communication with each other, and understand that you each think differently.
