Motivated by a take i saw yesterday. so i thought i`d give my own perspective
There’s an entire genre of Youtube and Instagram dedicated to so-called “flexing”
It’s when uber rich 9–29 year olds make videos on how awesome their life is.
They drive up in Lamborghinis, Ferraris and such and make vlogs out of their amazing adventures:
These people don’t even have to be real. As we saw in the case of little tay, her entire story was fake. She’s not rich. Everything was fake.
And yet…
She was famous when people believed she was rich. She had a massive following and people were lapping up every single piece of little tay related content that they could find.
Let’s think about that: People spent their time following a 9 year old rapper who owned a Lamborghini
Instead of what: using that time productively to make their own wealth?
That’s the problem
I remember reading this somewhere:
Our generation is more obsessed with motivational videos, celebrities than actually being motivated, making our own path to celebrity status or wealth.
There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by some of these people.
But when all you do is watch Youtubers and Instagramers flex, you don’t go anywhere.
Perhaps some people are more prone than others, but just watching other people succeed, while you stagnate, is going to make you unhappy.
And it’s not limited to Youtube and Instagram
Watching reality TV, like “America’s Got Talent” or any similar show. has the same effect.
Using any of these for passive entertainment is fine. Trying to make money off of these platforms is fine.
The answers are out there in “real life”. Your goals are out there, not here.
Our generation fantasizes about having the lives these people do. But we don’t work toward them and we don’t where to find our purpose.
That’s why some people are unhappy.
Also remember to not compare yourself to others
