How stereotyping and socially acceptable prejudice negatively affects the Asian male

As I’ve mentioned before, the relations between the Asian-American communities and the liberals are strained. More and more Asians continue to abandon the liberal community because they realize that liberalism doesn’t value the interests of Asians, especially Asian men which will be the central topic of this take. Note, I’m not saying every liberal has a negative view of Asians but there are definitely fringe elements within the liberal community that do view Asians negatively and also happen to be the spokespeople(loudest) of the liberals. Which obviously makes all liberals look bad.

How stereotyping and socially acceptable prejudice negatively affects the Asian male

By now most of you realize that Asian men are usually the butt of jokes when it comes to race. Asian men are made fun of and looked down upon because of many stereotypes and misconceptions. Yet nobody seems to care. Now imagine if it were a joke of any other minority, I can guarantee you that the radical liberal crowd would be outraged. “Why is this?” you may ask. The explanation is simple really. Asians, Asian men in particular are at the bottom of the liberal social hierarchy. Our interests and concerns don’t matter to the radical liberals. Things are done at our expense yet nobody says anything because we are basically expendable. Not that long ago Steve Harvey openly made derogatory remarks about Asian men yet his reputation is still in tact. To be fair, he did apologize for his remarks but still, you’d think that there would still be some “residue” from his remarks but no, it’s as he never said anything.

One way Asian men are dehumanized is by stereotyping us as being effeminate. The main sources of this stereotype is the fact that Asians tend to maintain a youthful appearance even in their 50s and that Asian men tend to be unable to grow beards. Many people say that Asian men have “low testosterone” because of them being unable to grow thick facial hair but in reality that has nothing to do with testosterone levels in the body but rather by the lack of androgen receptors on our faces. So we can have high levels of testosterone and many of us Asians do but the lack of androgen receptors on our faces means no thick facial hair.

K pop and J pop fashion is a big thorn in the side of Asian men. These styles give the wrong impression of the Asian male. K Pop and J pop do not represent all Asian males, they are trends that ruin the image of Asian men because the ignorant masses assume that we all look like this.

No we don’t all look like this.
No we don’t all look like this.

I like to think that many of those dislikes on YouTube rewind 2018 were because of how Asian men were depicted on there. Anyways, what many people don’t know is that K pop fashion is artificial not natural aesthetics. A lot of those k pop celebrities use tons of makeup and in some occasions facial surgery to get an androgynous appearance. Pictured below are examples of how Asian men naturally look.

Another label people attached to Asian men is the “wimp” label. This ties into the two paragraphs above, it is a stereotype meant to dehumanize the Asian male. While it’s true that many Asians tend to be slimmer on average than other races, that has to do primarily with diet. The foods that many Asians eat has much less fat than the food non Asians primarily eat. However, fitness and strength training is not foreign or unknown to Asian people. Asians have developed many ways of training agility, endurance, dexterity and strength. And have combined them with modern day training techniques. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon a bulky Asian male who looks like he can dominate you. There are plenty of tough Asians out there, especially Asian men.

Heightism is another issue many Asian men face. While Asian men have gotten noticeably taller in recent years, there are still many of us who are below 5’9”. Society tends to treat short men as if they are inferior even when in fact many short men out perform their taller counterparts. Height shouldn’t even be something that determines your perception of a person because as I’ve said before height is mostly aesthetics and whether you are short or tall, there are always pros and cons to your height.

The expendability of Asian men also extends to Asian men that are victims of injustices. Where is the outrage for them? Why is it that when any other minority is a victim of an injustice, everyone goes berzerk but when the victim is an Asian, specifically an Asian male, everyone goes silent or simply jokes about it. Very recently some degenerate entered a restaurant and mortally wounded three Asian men with a hammer. Where are the protests demanding justice?

Asian men have a negative reputation amongst the SJWs based on stereotypes that label Asian men as “misogynistic”. Whatever happened to not making hasty generalizations?

Asian men also struggle to get representation in the liberal dominated media. How often do we get a Hollywood movie or tv show portraying a dominant Asian male lead? Almost never. Asian men mostly get cannon fodder roles or roles in which they are overshadowed by the non Asian protagonist. The only movie made by Hollywood recently that deserves praise for giving the non stereotypical lead role to a Asian actor is the foreigner.

I wish they made more movies like this.

When it comes to beauty standards, many of us don’t measure up to what society says is the ideal male. In fact us Asian guys are considered “least desirable” based on all the stereotypes listed on this take. This ties into how Asians are portrayed in movies, how often does an Asian character get the woman in the end? Almost never. Ironically many women have stated that they are interested in Asian men but feel that Asian men aren’t into them and likewise many Asian men believe that non Asian women aren’t into them either. Even the “Asian male (insert race) female” social media pages have low followers. It just comes to show where Asian men stand in the dating world. But let’s not forget that one of Hollywood’s first male “sex symbols” was a Japanese-American man named Sessue Hayakawa during a time when he faced open discrimination in his career because of his ethnicity.

Downplaying and ignoring the contributions of Asian men is also a common practice. How often do individual Asian men get praise for their contributions? Almost never. How many of you knew that one of the main reasons why the US military is no longer segregated is because of the brave men of the Japanese-American 442nd RCT?

But things are changing, more and more Asian men are starting to fight back against the subtle discrimination shown by the fringe elements within the Liberal community. We’ve defeated anti Asian sentiment before, we’ll do it again.
