This is going to be one of those "born in the wrong generation" postings. Sorry, not sorry. Gen X, I think you rock!

For the 70s and 80s to be your childhood must have been fun.

And then to enter the cynicism of adulthood with great music to channel your angst. I would kill to have seen Nirvana live.

Less racism and other -isms than the boomers on average, at least. The younger generations are probably even more tolerant of diversity, though, based on my unscientific observations.

Technically this is genx criticism, but whatever

Careers in entrepreneurship and plentiful financial opportunities (let's forget about the early 90s and 2008)

Gen xers will make great bosses once them boomers finally retire. Xers value independence, so they probably will respect that for others (no micromanagement).

You also have great work ethics while making time for a life outside of work as well.
You are a hard-working bunch.

You can relate to the youngsters.
You are highly active on social media and ze interweb, and you can relate to the many commodities of technology.

i was age 6 .. Second Grade all i did was cry for my Mother age 7
don't know what happened age 7 ? Why would a Child cry when
we started singing in Class , my Teacher Mrs McKenery would ask
me Darren what's wrong? I would blame other kids just cause i
cried when we sang in Second Grade.. My teen years was in the 80's
i was in Middle School.. I was bullied severely , in High School it was
mildly but i still had my bullies , yes so happy when i graduated from

One would think the romantic spirit so frequently granted to the past would have already burned out.

The entire generation argument/perspective needs to be put out to pasture. There is so much disparity even within generations that I don't know how we use it as a metric for anything at all. A 39 year car likely has far more in common with me than his 54 year old counterpart.

I'm sure the sentiment was appreciated by the responders but that kind of blind nostalgia can be poisonous. Some of the worse moments in history were birthed by a belief in a need to return to "the good ole days".

Absolutely, I think the priority should be peaceful cohabitation across age groups. I do not intend to alienate other generations but to highlight what I perceive to be underrepresented generational characteristics in discussion.

See the thing is it was going on but its not what you think. People kinda self segregated. Italians wanted to live near other Italians, polish with other polish, Jews with Jews, Chinese with Chinese see. So different neighborhoods had different ethnic make ups. So back then, its shocking kids used to walk to neighborhood schools. This was just what the people did. Black people include.
No one force segregated anything.

Civil rights act of 1964 passed before gen x was born. They were raised after that, but I'm certain there have been discriminatory policies in gen x lifetime. It's just that this improves with time, and a percentage of X went to desegregated schools within 10 years of it being passed

Lol. They didn’t “desegregate themselves”. Blacks weren’t allowed into universities. Even after they made segregation illegal. Universities weren’t accepting blacks. I remember they had to FORCE state colleges to approve blacks in and professors would kick them out. So the president sent The secret service to escort them to class 🤦‍♀️

I was born in ‘79, I feel like I lined up perfectly, haha. Child in the 80s when toys were at their technological peak while still being fun enough to be able to put your eye out with lmao. And then I turned 11 right as 1990 hit, so I was a true 90s teenager, I was 11-20 during that decade, my formative years. And you said it, the music was outstanding. Rock/alternative, rap... it was all at its height. What’s funny though, I was talking to a kid at the hockey shop who went to my high school, graduated exactly 20 years after me, he’s 20 years old. We were reminiscing about a few teachers and administrators that we both had, and he was very fascinated to know what it was like in the 90s. He asked about music we listened to, and I was telling him all the usual suspects: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against The Machine, etc, and then all the big rappers. So what was funny to me is I remember there was a pretty strong population of kids who thought new 90s rock music was trash, and they were like “Nirvana sucks, Pearl Jam sucks... LED Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, THAT’S music, maaannnnn. I was born in the wrong decade, I wish I was my age now in the 70s!” So just like people say that now and love the 90s, people were pining for 20 years ago, 20 years ago haha. I think there’s something about 20 years, it’s long enough ago to be throwback and new to teenagers, but not so old that it’s their old, uncool parents’ music lmao. Like 5 years from now in the mid-2020s, I bet the kids who are still in elementary school now will be into like pop punk or Nü-metal or something, for a brief revival. It’s all cyclical, I’m old enough to have seen it. Just like when I was your age, same deal. Biggie Smalls put out Big Poppa, HUGE hit, and we’re all 15 years old and dancing around to it, and 40 year olds are like “this is just some guy rapping over Between The Sheets by The Isley Brothers”😂

One thing I find hilarious about this generation war shit is that most people don't even know what age bracket the millennials are. Most older folks just refer to any young kid as a millennial. Now, the boomer generation is the only generation to be recognize by the government as people born between '46 - '64. Most consensus consider '65 - '80 as Gen X and Millennials between '81 - '96. The beginning and end years can fluctuate a few years depending on what consensus you go by. So, keeping this in mind, the oldest millennial based on these just turned 39. At least those born in the first few days of the year since we're in January. The youngest millennial would be 23 turning 24 this year. And some consensus would consider these persons to be a Gen Z. And yet, I still here people bitch about millennials when referring to high school and college kids. It's almost as if millennials has became synonymous for mid-late teens to early twenties.
As someone born in '91 with 3 older brothers all born in the 80's almost all of my cousins born in the 80's (oldest born in 79) I relate to them far more than I do with someone born even 5 years younger than me. Let alone 10.

To be honest I almost didn’t go see them. The actual touring they did on Nevermind was actually before it blew up... they played tiny North American shoes. Their next real tour was for In Utero. By that time they were playing big arenas. And you know... that’s wasn’t cool. Too big not a smaller club. The phrase “normie” wasn’t used back then but if it was we’d have said “it’s gonna be all normies”. Anyway went anyway with some friends, paid up with a scalper to switch to floor seats, happily the arena had been smart enough to not set up seats on floor so it was a big mosh pit on concrete lol. Was a good show. A few months later Kurt was gone.

Generation x was the last generation that didn't understand that the "system" is called society which is a structure that we need to survive on this crowded planet. Fighting it is litteral suicide. However no general public ever fought the sneakingly stronger surveillance systems that the government puts in everybodies pocket that spy people more and more with every revision. Watching "The Day After" and crapping a brick thinking about how we were toast from a nuclear fireball wasn't fun. When the wall came down, it felt like anything was possible and peace might make it.

I am glad I spent more years in the 80's than the 70's for sure. There were some classic coming of age teen movies back then. The music was fun, too.

It won't be spectactular. All you'll have is 10nm and 7nm and possibly 5nm pricessors 5nm if you're lucky. Graphics cards a little faster. Nmve drives mere speed bumps. We graduated in the 90s where the recession was horrible. I couldn't get a job for 4 years after graduating in my field of engineering.

Born in 83, I'm what's considered "Xennial." Yet, I seem to relate more to Gen X values than Milennial ones. There's a difference between being a good boss, and being a cool boss.

The cool boss I can do, sure. Understanding, sure. That only works if I know what I'm doing and have faith in myself.

Creative? Yes. More so than a lot of my peers. It's hard to promote anything new, nor make it good. Which is why Hollywood is a recycling factory now more than ever before.

Love this. Technically I am "Gen Y" even though I was born in the 80s and grew up in the 90s. I do not identify with millenials whatsoever and I am something of an old soul, longing for the essence and good times that my yesteryears had.
