Ok, I'm pretty sure he likes me - now what?

OK, I put up another question, outlining some of the ways this guy I am interested in was acting and based on the feedback, it sounds like he is interested...I can't accurately judge whether he is or not, because I am obviously incredibly biased and sometimes you're gonna believe what you want to, so I asked.

Now it gets really freaking tricky. I am incredibly reserved/shy when it comes to guys I am interested in. I will be open and fun with everybody else, but bring "prince charming" into the room and I'm done.

I was thinking about asking one of my pretty good friends who knows him very well about it, but I didn't know if it would be a good idea to "spill the beans" to her or not. She would be a good intermediate person to get advice from, I guess...

Anyway - I am hopefully gonna be working at the same time as him soon, if things work out (long story), and I know the "Textbook" way to ask a guy if he wants to hang out is to just do it - but I'm not a "just do it" kind of person... (shy/reserved - remember? haha) So I was wondering if there was a better way to go about it... I'm obviously not gonna have my friend ask - that's like the definition of awkward, but I was thinking maybe if I did talk to her, she could drop hints or ask him what he thinks about me (nonchalantly of course) - but then I didn't know if THAT was a good idea or if she would be all weird... I know it depends on her and what she wants to do.

So I'm confused! I really like the guy, but I'm also extremely shy, but I want to see if we can make something work here, so basically I need help (not THAT kind of help, although I might - depending on how this goes)

(we hung out at the new years eve party on thursday, and now I'm officially Facebook friends with him - big whoop - so if someone knows the do's and don't's, and basically where to go from here, that would be amazing -- why don't this kinda thing come with a manual?)
