I can tell you from experience that you should NEVER discount someone and their potential to make you happy based on their race!! People are free to date whoever they want. Maybe nowadays interracial dating is more accepted, so people feel more confortable dating outside their race more openly.
Which doesn't mean people didn't feel attracted to other races in the past. But they were too racist themselves to openly admit. Nevertheless, as a person who had the chance to examine many historical documents from colonial times through the American continent, I can tell you that, even in times of slavery, it was common for white people to have sexual affairs with them. Including white women with black men. Not to mention both black women and black men used to be raped in the lord's properties. So there was attraction, although twisted by oppressive power relations.
As racism diminushes, people feel more safe admiting they feel attracted to other races and can go on dates with them without being AS judged. Feeling attracted to another race is natural and has many evolutionary advantages.

I think it's kind of a stigma in the US that black women are the least desirable of all women. Basically 99% of black women are only with black men. But women tend to have more variation of the races they're attracted to, I see lots of mixed couples like white/black, mexican/asian, white/hispanic, white/indian, black/asian. But the woman is almost NEVER black in these mixed couples.
