Who the hell cares, if people treat you like shit for who you are stop interacting with that person people just need to grow up for Christ sake, we need to stop breaking society down into smaller and smaller subjects, we arn't just white, black etc, we have to be Light white, dark white... Light black, dark black. Worrying about this is an indulgence of free time that could be spent doing somthing constructive like spending time volunteering or creating somthing instead of complaining about menial shit
Sorry had to rant
I know I was awnsered your question, you said is colorism a thing should it be stoped, my awnser is who the hell cares. If it is a thing okay there are people petty enough or don't feel there is enough shit going on into world to add more fuel to the fire, then should it be stopped I don't care, if somone wants to discriminate becase there are acouple shades lighter on a deluxe colour chart that's up to them it doesn't effect me I'm still gonna treat all people as equals regardless of race, gender, orientation or skin shade.
It wasn't a go at you specifically so I hope it didn't come off as such.
You obviously have never been harassed, assaulted, or attacked because of your race.
I'd like to see how you ignore a fist to the face.
Spoken exactly like a privileged person.
Well I'll let you know I actually have so thanks for the ignorance mate. If you require thw specifics I can explain and I'd love to hear your response.
I had a bully growing up that was a black guy, he use to beat me up physically intimidate me to the point I was scared from going to school. Every time I complained my school did nothing, the only time they did do somthing was when he strangled me. Now I don't claim to be a victim that happend but that was one dick head. Recently I went to an interview for a job. When I turned up they said, "I'm sorry I we didn't realise you where white, as you can see our office is predominantly white so we are actually looking for somone that is more diverse" I sucked it up and said okay that's fine I'll apply somewhere else.
The key here is, I'm not going to white night for anyone I'm going to give them the respect and adult deserves and let them fight their own battles. So a person of privilage maybe but at least I have more respect for individuals than what they look like.
Definitely.
I've heard a lot of dark-skinned folks refer to lighter skinned people as "lite brites" and things of the ilk. Likewise, I've heard a people of many ethnic backgrounds speak ill of dark-skinned people in particular. It's an issue in other countries, as well. I've known peeps from East Asian countries who talk about disparities between darker and lighter skins, as they pertain to working and upper classes.
Prejudice exists in many forms, all of which deserve to be reflected upon within our cultures.
"Colorism: Discrimination based on skin color, also known as colorism or shadeism, is a form of prejudice or discrimination in which people are treated differently based on the social meanings attached to skin color."
How is this different from racism?
If you're of the opinion that only white people can be racist, than colorism is a useful word, if you believe discrimination or predjudice based on race is universally wrong, the term has no meaning.
The word darkies is a racist word by the way... here in the UK that word is frowned upon so youāve just answered your own question
Im uk nobody gives a Fk itās being forced upon by Americans and their obsessive over colour of skin
Just because other people have used the term darkies in some derogatory, condescending way with ill intention doesnāt mean I am.
The word itself is not racist nor was it my intent to put down dark people.
You seem to be silent when I say LIGHTIESš am I being racist towards light people too?
never heard the term lighties itās not a word just something you made up whereas darkies is a name used to describe black people. why you race baiting anyway
Darkies was never a word till a racist person made it up.
Same thing goes for āspoonā and āshoeā and everything else. Every word was made up by SOMEONE on the strength of their imagination. So whatās your point šš
Also, Iām sorry if it appears as though Iām ārace baitingā.
I asked a question about Colorism. Asking and answering questions is kind of the point of being here.

Yes. I had a boyfriend who was black and he said "You've got pretty light skin" when asked why my skin color mattered "It's just better"
People are taught from an early age that one is better than the other. And it drags the other down. People pick on dark people, especially dark women. It drives people apart "Oh well she's stuck up because she's fair" "Oh well she's bitter because she's dark" And it drives people to hurt themselves with dangerous lightening creams (a huge market all over the globe).
It's so messed up and sad. Melanin is SO beautiful. Now to flood the end of this question with beautiful beautiful melanin.

Yes baby yes! It's sad that some people don't see it as a problem at all.
Yes, it does exist. Sadly. Why?
In some cultures, lighter skin is desired because itās seen as āwealthyā, ābeautifulā, etc. Whereas dark skin is the complete opposite. But in other cultures, dark skin is desired because itās seen as āhealthyā, āmore aliveā, āhas an actual toneā etc. Which is probably one of the reasons why some people tan themselves.
A place that barely has any light people, they most likely desire the ones who are light becauss itās rare for them to see these kind of people. The same for dark skin. A place that barely has any dark people, then they most likely desire the dark ones.
I think a lot of people donāt bother explore the diversity or realize that us humans come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and so on. When people are raised in such a way that theyāre blinded by their own standards and maybe just arenāt use to seeing people outside of their own race/shade of color. Itās kind of sad really.
And of course it also has a lot of do with history, like the slavery times, the royalty, etc
No it does not exist, at least not in the overwhelming majority of the country. By that rational we can claim that whites experience this with all the tanning salon's and tanning creams etc. that they have. Its opinions of what one person would look best in but that's personal opinions nothing more. Again, by that rational every one would experience this "prejudice" as every one has an idea of what looks best, I am particularly fond of curly or wavy hair so by this reasoning I am discriminating against people with straight hair, my friend finds non white women attractive so he would then be discriminatory towards whites (despite him being white) etc. etc. Its just opinions and every one has one, the key is understanding this and being comfortable enough with yourself to like you for you and to be comfortable enough to consider what they have to say (it could turn out you do look better with straighter/curlier hair or lighter/darker skin. Again, every one has an opinion and if you let that dictate your life your never going to be happy because people (yourself included) are never going to not have an opinion.

I hate stupid words for behaviors already labeled
Colorism is racism, just being given and different name because it's the same race going against each other. Black people can be racist to other black people. And same for other races. It's dumb, yes, but I happens.
All of this is so stupid to me. Dark skin versus light skin and etc. Also some people don't know the difference between general preference and prejudice or racism. I swear every little thing can be something offensive and racist now. I don't know I'm gonna leave this alone before I get annoyed more.
Colorism is real and it's been real for a long long time around the world. It isn't always rooted in racism, for example in asia colorism is more about wanting to be pale because being tan is a sign you work outside which is considered something low class people do, so "higher class" people will sometimes walk around with umbrellas to not get any tan. And sometimes it is just racist where being white skinned is considered positive and dark skinned negative, avoiding the obvious examples this is also an issue in many south American countries.
I don't think it's necessarily something that can be stopped but in almost all cases colorism is just ridiculous and counter productive.
Its ignorant peoples conversation. No one chose to be born the color of their skin nor the country they are from. To discriminate people entirely on those grounds tells me those doing the discrimination are uneducated. Educated people judge others on merits and morals and values. Not color. Nor the size of their pockets. I have friends who are millionaires when we walk around the city no one can tell who Is rich v. s who Is middle class. Our friendship isn't based on showing off. Were mix or white n black n Latinos. We all have differences but our values are the same.
I don't know if there's in colorism in other countries but it's a real thing in my birth country.
Some people try to stay away from the sun so their skin doesn't get darker. If you tell them that their skin looks lighter, they take it as a compliment.
Some women get married to light skinned men, so their kids won't have their skin tone. And I've heard stories of people who didn't get hired because they were dark skinned.
It's really sad and ridiculous. And it's one of the reasons why I don't want to go back.
It is very real and not only applicable to blacks. Many people have been passed over by jobs, have stereotypes assumed about them, and more. It still occurs today because of the ingrained racism. It's particularly why many black Africans attempt to distinguish themselves from being "black Americans"---they try to set themselves apart via culture and national identity instead of skin color when many people because being "black" is seen as a terrible plight in America. The ones who are most successful are those who are light skinned. The more light skinned you, the more accepted you are by certain people.
Explain in detail? Want a specific answer ask a specific question! Your question is confusing i'm not sure whether you mean white vs. black or Lighter shades of dark skin vs. darker shades of dark skin. I think we're all defined by our life experiences and treat people accordingly. I try to treat everyone the same but I'll be honest i'm from a relatively white area of the Midwest i don't have a lot of interaction with other races. And i do find black culture to be different from my own. But i've never noticed a difference between lighter blacks vs. darker blacks. unless they were literally from another country not just descendants from that country.
Yes, colorism is a very big thing in my country, India, at least. We are taught from the very beginning that people with white or fair skin are the benchmark of beauty and if someone has relatively darker skin, they have some fault and should not be the first choice in any case. I think it should be stopped, because I wouldn't want my child to be either be a victim of colorism, or make someone else the victim. Trust me, it's really hard for the people who face such things to live with their held high. Even the strongest lose hope sometimes. Believe me, on the basis of what I have seen and experienced, it needs to stop.
"is that your real hair?" I hate that phrase.
My brothers and I are biracial - Indian and black. However I am substantially more light skinned than them. Every single day there is someone that comments something about my skin colour or my hair. They range from " you must be adopted". To "you can't be black - not with hair like that"
He'll I've even had my 16 year old cousin who is the same colour as me tell me I'm not black enough (but she is).
Truth be told it is annoying, as I identify as both races not just one or the other. What hurts me, is seeing my brothers faces (who are darker than me and who have nappier hair - they both are currently rocking afros) when people show prejudice towards me because I'm light skinned.
Colorism isn't new. It started back during slavery. House slaves and field slaves. If you were of a lighter complexion, you were allowed to work inside and treated a tiny bit better. Darker complexions weren't. It carried on to today where you see the separation between lighter skin and darker skin black people. And I can't even just say black people. It's just the disconnect between light skin and dark skin in general and the way people associate darker skin with such negative attributes. They view it as unattractive and treat people with darker skin differently.
Even like on my dad's side of the family which is my Puerto Rican side, some of them are as dark as my boyfriend who is black, but they'll act weird around him.
Yes it is a real thing, and yes it should be stopped. However, we are dealing with years of cultural values and beauty ideals, and in many cases, a history of repression which leads to people rejecting their own image in favor of what is believed to be better. For example, I am Filipino American, but have Caucasian features like green eyes and fair skin. When Filipino people meet me and find out Iām tisay (mixed) they give me preferential treatment over my cousins & brother who have more traditional Filipino features. I find this abhorrent and very awkward, but in the Philippines, celebrities are typically mixed with western features because that is associated with wealth and beauty there.
I find colourism hard to sort in my head. Mostly because it confuses me how someone can be oppressed by something think that could be sorted with a tan (that last bit was a joke).
It seems to me that colourism tends to be 'you look too white' or an issue I once read about mixed race people saying there shunned but in that case it's racism as I think it comes down to the silly notion of "pure blood".
I think it exists to a point but I don't think it's as widespread that we should divert funds to stopping it.
So its even worse than racism, like black people discriminate other black people for not being black enough?
Sounds like stupid SJWs can't find anything racist anymore (which is remarkable on its own) and had to invent something new...
I honestly dont care anymore, its impossible to ever make those people happy
FACTS.
Yes it Is a real thing. Im a black woman with light skin and people comment on my skin tone as if its better than dark skin and sometimes assume my personality based on my skin tone. My last boyfriend thought I would be stuck up because I was light skin. Some people notice it more than others. My family didn't treat any of us different and my parents celebrated the things that make being black beautiful and supported the Black Panthers, African culture, and reminded each of us that we were all black and beautiful individuals and that our race had the most diversity than any other. My mom was dark skinned with very fine hair like a white womans, whereas I was light skinned with nappy hair. And I love my nappy hair I wouldn't want to be any other way. Being raised to love yourself makes outside opinions seem unimportant but colorism is real if you think someone is superior or inferior to you because they are darker or lighter skinned.
Id like us to be all more in common with each other and I think that gag does that, we can't see color until it's told to us, some of my favorite gaggers are black and I'm cool with that, some great friends that I have are black too. I think I'm more of a fan of connectedness, if we can become closer without the focus of skin and simply based on similar interests that would be groovy
What's the difference in this and racism?
I'm not understanding something.
If it's the same race it makes no sense and people are just making things up to be mad about. Silly
That's hilarious
I used to work in a place that sold beauty products. People of dark skin tones tried to purchase skin bleaching creams and people of light skin tones tried to buy skin tanning creams. None of them ever mentioned discrimination from those of different skin tones but what they did mention was discrimination within families. The darkest kid was thought to be the ugly child or the palest one looked pasty or like a ghost. It was usually family or friends that motivated their purchases.
Apaetntly I'm some kind of Nazi for thinking this, but all skin tones can be beautiful, just wash it, and care for it, no need to slowly kill yourself over the color of your own skin!
Colorism is real and has been for a long ass time. Dark is often equated to dirty, or ugly in African, Indian and American culture. Iām not sure where it comes from, but most of my life the men I meet prefer lighter women. It doesnāt exactly have a cure though. Iām not sure how such an issue could be fixed. Itās kinda like women who prefer tall men. Nothing can really be done to change that. People like what they like and for some reason dark people arenāt it🤷🏾āāļø
no there's no colorism, regardless if it's a light skinned black or a dark skinned black, they will still call each other the N word and if it's any better, i was called a "crazy chinese nigga" by some random black guy while i was doing calisthenics type workout at gym one time, too.
This is not new. People have always judged people by race, and by shades of color. What is different now, is that it's illegal to discriminate, and many more people are no longer willing to be discriminated against. Of course, whenever real discrimination exists, there are a few who take it beyond reason and common sense. That is not the average person with darker skin.
I don't think it happens among white people. At least not where I'm from. And I often admire women with darker skin, like Hispanics 😍 their skin is so beautiful.
But then again where I'm from colorism isn't really a big thing, but racism is. Not against black people though but against middle easterners
So if you're black, but not black enough, other black people will treat you as a black sheep?
Black people are racist.
Well I already knew that. I mean black people already say that white people are inferior, so it's no wonder to me that they are racist even among each other.
@pink yes they can. i get shit all the time for being biracial
I'm African and scottish. im either not black enough or they dont believe me. i dont have this problem with whites or any other race.
Think about all the shit amber rose gets. its not color struck its flat out racist. im sorry. then the dark skin girls get made fun of because they are "too black and hair nappy". if you too light skin or mixed "you not black enough or think you're better"
I'm called white bitch all the time. that's racist
You try being mixed then let me know how you get treated
I'm sure you do bc you ate a lighter complexion
@heyyyyy69 indeed it is but itās in other communities as well not just the black community.
I'm not full black is my point šš¤¦āāļø so it is racist
Actually the white people see me as mixed. theyll even say yeah she's black too. but it's the other way around with blacks. they dont see me as black. inhave to "prove it" which I refuse to do.
Actually colorism is usually in favor of light skin blacks
@cutiebytheshore123 not all black people are like that !! My cousin has white skin. Thereās no color to him at all. He has straight hair. His white Family sees him as a little black boy and my family sees him as a little black boy. My goodness some people are just ignorant. So no you donāt have to āproveā it those people that want you to are just color struck.
I'm not saying all but a large majority out number the small group that are not like that.
he's a guy. guys dont have it like the mixed girls, the light skin, or dark skin girls. guys are different
@Dion girls are a lot more critical and chatty. men aren't so much like that
@pink that's my point. its women once again being critical
By women. again its women
That's my point
That's the point. men dont necessarily deal with it the way women do. its rare occasions
@Pink are you sure men don't do it to men?
Men humiliate other men in private, so the damage stays inside and grows. A man who has been humiliated keeps it a secret, thus making the damage grow even more until it breaks him.
So if a man is a victim of this "color struck" he would never tell and you will never know. You will only watch him break down for apparently no reason.
@pink black people do it to themselves. White people dont even be doing it. I recieve the most hate from black girls. when I first started school the black girls weren't interested in being my friend it was the whites, latinas, and Asians.
@Dion šš
@cutiebytheshore123 okay and ? Youāre not the only one sweetie. It happens. Itās ignorant and ridiculous. Of course women do it to other women. Thatās competition. But why would a man do it to another man? Please tell me have you ever heard a black man say that another black man was too light/dark?
The point is high percentage black people are racist period.
@cutie I did. I've heard it from a British man (and he definitely was black, he was just born and grew up in the UK) this one is the stereotypical British, you know, well dressed, stands up properly, speaks with a British accent...
So he was waiting in a queue and there were 2 other black guys behind him. And one of them says to him "yo hey nigga" And he kindly replies "hello there"
And the other one is struck, he says " you're not a real nigga"
@cutiebytheshore123 a black person can not be racist against another black person. Thatās my point. You donāt know the true definition of racism. Black people can be prejudice against each other but not racist. And if you constantly bring up the fact that youāre mixed then I see why some black people would probably be an ass hole towards you.
@dionššš¤£š¤¦āāļøI'm not surprised
@pink perfect example of racist. who says I bring it up all the time? if I'm asked I say it. Is that another problem y'all have? y'all outraged over everything
@Dion see the racism."have fun being mixed" as if my race is a crime. See how they are š
@cutiebytheshore123 youāve brought up like 3 times. Iām not outraged Iām just dissapointed that you as a black woman could be so ignorant and misinformed. Learn the true definition of racism. It would be racist if I said āI donāt see how youāre miced when youāre darker than meā thatās a perfect example of racism, colorism, and just pure ignorance.
So you don't want to be recognized by the black community @cutie? If so then why was your original statement that you weren't accepted by the black community even something you brought up? Was that just for playing the victim because the big bad black people don't accept you? Clearly you'd rather be white, I mean that's the side you identify with and that's the only kind of guys you date. So why are you even dragging this argument on? You're just proving @pinks points
@heyyyyy69 THANKYOU !!!
@cutie I really don't lol I got shit to do I woke up this morning with like 30 notifications from you lol I commented in here like 3 times and that's it. I don't need to read all of the messages to figure you out you're crystal clear baby š.. You have way too much time who are you trying to prove you're not black to? The world or yourself?
@heyyyyy69 sheās insecure man.
Yea lol shit I'm mixed too but I just say I'm black. She's about as bad as all the "Dominicans" in new York haha. Black people lying because they want to be exotic or black people that refuse to want that label. oh no baby I'm not black I'm mixed. Ooooook. This will be my last comment on here though. At first @cutie wanted to play the victim. Look ms I hope you get some therapy for your colorist issues because clearly whatever happened to you as a child has done something
y'all so insecure šš¤£
@heyyyyy69 thank goodness sheās not active anymore.
It is definitely a real problem and it should surely be stopped. There should not be billboards in East Asian countries selling bleaching creams promising to be "perfect white". There should not be videos of black men bashing dark skin black women for no reason.
I think to a degree its a thing but when people make those comments at me i honestly take it as a compliment like females for sure get it probably more then us guys and sure some people can be prejudice with there words but i feel like most of the time its curiosity and maybe a little envy. But i can see why it can be seen as colorisum instead.
Yes it definitely should be stopped. My ex sister and mom would bash dark skinned people saying that theyāre ādarkā. Iām Hispanic but brown complexion and burnt due to working in the sun. I just found it funny because her mom was of white complexion but her daughter was brown nowhere near white and had the nerve to say dark is ugly. My ex didnāt care that was there opinion but it amazes me as to how little minded people can be especially over skin color.
I'm biracial African american-ghana and white-scottish. I experience racism not from whites but from black women. not all but some. they dont believe I'm half black or I'm either "not black enough ". So yeah it exist. i dont have this problem with whites though
all these new names created fascinates me showing the creativity of sjws and the pc talk plague..
Shit, for gods sake, people, there's a natural preference in each individual and there's a bit of prejudice in eeeeveeeryyonnnee. thats not racism..
racism is actually WAY more radical than that.
ya no different than when meeting a person
one of the first few things they asks is , where are you from? whats your ethnicity
so they can secretly racially discriminate and call It a preference...
It exists mostly among blacks who for some reason bitchfight way too much about being lighter-skinned.
I worked with a black girl who was very jealous of light skinned black girls. She really talked shit about them. Then she had names for the dark skinned girls.
Asking questions because people don't understand is ok. Your updates suggest that black people can't be racist against people who are part white but racism comes from all colors.
Omg that first pic is def what i get asked āwhy not have your hair naturalā like hell nawl i ain't into the fro. But i also dont do weave. Perms please
Same natural hair is too much work for me
Lmao yes its real and not surprising that the people in the comments claiming its not are white its a way bigger problem amongst indians tho definitely needs to be stopped
Colorism in America? Not as much, but colorism in Asian and Middle Eastern countries? YES definitely.
Colorism is just a rebranding of racism, we don't need a new word to define discrimination and prejudice based on racial features.
Yes it is - If it is what I think you mean where there seems to be a bias for the lighter skinned members of various races.
I don't know what you are talking about, but people can be arsewholes, often if they can't find anything else to give you shit about its your features. It might happen.
It is. If you dont know why, go back to history class, racism and colorism are basicly the same thing, it's just more acceptable to claim colorism. Nobody should be ashamed of their skin, nobody should dislike another because of skin.
Does it exist? Yes.
Is it absurd and ridiculous? Yes.
Let me guess, it's something feminists came up with?
They aren't even in the same category of fuckery. Some men sport this bullshit too.
Both are equally Anno
*annoying
Yes colorism is real. However, people are not familiar with it and dub it as racism. I mention it's not doing much since is lumped with racism.
Yes, it's still a thing and yes it should be stopped.
This is a major issue. Everywhere. However I notice that itās really prominent in minority filled countries for whatever reason. I canāt speak for others but as a lightskinned hispanic Iāve noticed my parents would praise me for getting ā the good genesā whatever that means.
Colorism is a concept invented by the blacks to feel even more sorry for themselves
Well it's never going to stop, some people are just to shallow and stupid to understand that your skin color doesn't make you worse or better than anyone else.
Thatās racism.
āColourismā is made up to replace racism after racism was hijacked and they realized that actual racism still exists even if you change the words.
Itās always been a real thing especially in the black community
Yes, it's certainly real.
I'm hearing about it for the first time, of course there are people whit prejudice against certain skin colours, but I wouldn't say it's a rampant problem, I'm yet to meet one in person
Eh it is racism
It isn't anything else
No need to invent new isms for it
Blue people are sub-human, and need to be eradicated
no its not real. its just another bullshit idea the progressive left came up with bcs its their job to think of ways to be annoying dipshits
I don't know. I can't pretend like I don't notice a difference.
Yes, but there are lots of "-ism's" that affect how people perceive , and treat, each other. Heightism, weightism, hairism...
Colorism is racism in the correct sense.
Racism is a dog hating a cat because it's a cat.
It's what it is. Whites have more privilege and are born with it, so I will have to work twice as hard to get half as much as the white man.
It exists, but it isnāt some widespread thing, but there are obviously gonna be people who are colorist
Racism = Idiotism. Hate it , thats my opinion on it.
Another day another Tumblr buzzword that many people didn't think of because many people can get over themselves.
