What language do you think the world should all collectively learn?

At one point, some got together and developed one, that they thought should be a 'Universal Language' and called it Esperanto. It never caught on. Seems that the nation with the most money, and commerce is the one to know! It was French, a long time ago, and some thought Portugese, and maybe Spanish, in the Imperial times.
Now, it seems that English is the 'Default' but I think some dialect of Chinese will soon be quickly challenging that, or not, when they realize that their pictogram crap is harder to use than English, or some derivative of English. No "Racial Bias" intended!! :) :)
Simlish.
For real, I think a panel of several widely used language representatives should all meet to collectively create a new language that could be taught in all nations to all children and we could just call it "common" and that way no matter where you are in the world, someone who understand you is near by.
If I was to say the german words "haus, glas, hund" you'd correctly guess "house glass hound" or the welsh "tacsi, sgarff, coffi" you'd guess "taxi, scarf coffee" . even difficult ones like smwddio pronounced smoothio could easily be guessed or quickly learned to mean ironing. it would be interesting to comply a list of words that can could easily be recognised or learnt by speakers of other languages and use it as a base for a common language.
None.
Monolingualism isn't fun.
There's more fun and benefits to learning more languages. Plus learning more than one language as a kid makes it easier for you to learn more languages as an adult.
I'm also very biased, being a bilingual French and English speaking Canadian.
Experiencing different languages is half the fun of travel, anyways.
A monolonguist world would be so dull.

English, it is by far the superior language due to its specificity. The subjects of math and science are taught in English even in countries like Japan, China, Spain, and many others. This is due to most languages not being specific enough in measurement to adequately explain these subjects. This shows the language of math and science that is specific enough to teach everyone with, is the optimum language. Plus a lot of people in other countries already speak English.
I think it should be something close to what already know. Maybe old Latin. Most languages derive from it already so it'd be easy. Maybe Chinese and other Asian countries with non latin languages might have trouble but they all speak English anyway so they'll manage.
None. Language is an instrinsic part of peoples culture and just removing it would make most cultures fall apart. People assume culture influences language, but it also does work the other way around. Specific languages encourage specific ways of thinking due to the way the language is structured.
Plus isn't the big talk about diversity? Why would we remove different cultures anyway?
None. The world is made up of different cultures, values, races, and ethnicities for a reason. Be worldly. Travel. Indulge. Expect the unexpected. And enjoy.
Bottom line is simple. NEVER be a tourist. Always be a traveller.
Best wishes on your endeavors.
English, of course. That issue has already been resolved. It is the common language of the world and the common language of computer programming.
Chinese, Japanese Us pictures which doesn’t make for a flexible language especially now with the need for such a thing. Arabic is squiggles, Russian well no one knows it outside of Russia, Spanish but why, no reason. It’s English and has been for years.
English, because it already is the international trade language.
United States American English. People from all over the world flock to United States of America, the land of opportunity. I say learn our original native language that is on all our original Country's documents. like our Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Bill of rights, etc. Why does everyone that comes here feel that Americans should learn their language?
That was the original intent of Esperanto. It's very simple to. pick up and has both consistent spelling and pronunciation. If we were to do that it's a good place to start. Only problem is the ideology behind the language is not perfect.
English is taught just about everywhere nowadays... when an international language was developed in an attempt to get us all speaking the same it fell flat and infact i think at one point more people learned klingon than esperanto
English because it basically already on its way to be people primary or secondary language.
English, but nowdays probably russian or chinese since they might take over your country, creepy communist dictator crap
I know the language of "love". I say sign language , it is harder for people to get mad if you use hands instead of mouth.
@888theGreat yeah but apparently there is multiple sign languages for each country
I agree, and sign is amazing, and I learned a lot when I was dating a woman in college! She went out of her way to try to 'speak' to me, when I couldn't make the right signs, even though she was uncomfortable trying to 'vocalize'! She actually spoke better than some of my hearing/speaking friends, and I loved her voice! "Language of Love!" for sure!! I was "Handicapped," and she was just perfectly ENABLED!! Doing her best, because I couldn't understand the sign as well as, and as fast as I wanted!! What an ANGEL!!
@888theGreat
There is between 138 and 300 different sign languages. Which one do you know?
I'd say English. A lot of countries already teach English as a secundairy language. And although a lot of people speak Chinese, a lot of them speak English anyway. A lot of People who are native English speakers would speak no or very variable secundairy languages.
The language of love & if we as a world can all love each other & treat each other with respect & work as a team future generations will look back & say thank you.
i think irsh as a world language would be cool , the accent just seals the deal for me plus the way they word things that can't be translated you have to know the language.
Assume English isn't the world language - otherwise English of course. Then (high) arabic because it seems to me to be the most challenging and powerful language.
Sign language. Because it’s inclusive to those who are deaf or cannot speak as well.
Well I've learned a bit of the french one and most of my teachers agreed on the fact that this was impossible and too hard for most people to learn anyway
You have to work several years to be able to hold a small conversation and also need to practice regularly... which is tough if you are not part of the hearing impaired community
But that knocks out blind people and those with limited hand/arm mobility.
I think Chinese or English would be good choices. There is already a lot of speakers of both languages, so they would be a good choice
Chinese since they're dominating the world and causing chaos.
English since most of the world learns it far a second language anyways.
Sanskrit, Latin, Ancient Greek.
That way people can see relationships in words, to any other Indo European Language.
English, not American English, obviously.
As the Queen said, there is not American English; there is only English, and errors.
Last I checked, the Americans where the first to kick "the crown" out, so I think American English is good enough.
@madprofessor 'were' you mean?
Minor technicality, but actually, Britain had a republic in 1649, a full 100+ years before your country was even born!
We where the first to kick the Brits out, last time I checked.
Would you like some tea and crumpets to accompany all this sir? Oh wait, your teeth can't handle the crumpets and the tea got thrown into the harbor. Well, at least you got the olymp-... oh yah that's right! Oh well, cheerio and all that palava you wonderful lobsterback you! :D
You'd probably have to construct something new. Unfortunately, that was already tried, and the result (Esperanto) didn't really go anywhere.
None!
Everyone should retain their language.
The proposal is communistic and would destroy cultures.
Every non native English speaking country is already teaching English in school i got it from when i was 8 or so
simply because of the best language I know English. maybe Mandarin but I would need to learn that one
Chinese. So many people speak it I don't know any tho
Mandarin because China will have world domination in the next decade or two
People have said that for almost 40 years. Same with cold fusion.
Not gonna happen. China has a Dept to GDP ratio of 3,1 to 1. Most economist will tell you that it starts getting dangerous at 1-1,2 to 1. USA has - depending on what stats you use - between 80-110%. Greece has 180%. China has 310% (!).
They aren't going to survive this.
Just for simplicity's sake I would say Spanish. It's commonly thought to be the easiest language to learn and has less weird bits of grammar than most other languages.
I second the guy who voted death. Easiest language of them all. :D
I think everybody should learn English and French and Spanish
Doing it fairly, I'd say majority rules. Whoever has the highest population. That would require the fewest people to have to learn. It's more efficient.
Probably, yeah.
Learning any language is hard. Good news is that you only have to do it once.
... Pig latin but that would put translators out of a job
I think English is great to learn, but if you ever get angry at someone you should learn an angry sounding language like Japanese or Russian or German, its quite fun!
Anywhere I have ever been, English was always the second language.
Since 2008, English was also the mandated language of aviation.
Most already learn English.
I think language is one of the main things that divide us, but its also a big part of the individual cultures.
Whatever comes naturally. By the time the world is speaking the same language, it won't be recognizable as any language currently spoken.
American English, it's the only language that doesn't sound disgustingly retarded and it actually makes sense
Actually, the English found... English... and the most retarded English we hear is American English.
Canadians, Australians, New Zealander’s all speak it fluently, Americans can’t even speak English properly, you sound the most regarded
Retarded*
The consistent language is British English.
Europe speaks British English (or tries to). Australia New Zealand the same. Singapore the same. India the same. Hong Kong the same.
Is the world consistent of USA only? Retards
Please. Stop this thinking. You are doing a disservice to the rest of Americans. You want the founding fathers to be proud not rolling in their graves correct?
English is the most common language that a lot of people speak as a first or second language and a lot of places in the world teach it
None lol, its impossible for one language to have all the features so we are always stuck in the biases of that one single language.
I would like to see a combination of different languages. Like on the fifth element and the blade movies.
I hope people invent a new universal language to talk with on internet
It ll be super cool
U cnt undrstd text spk?
@madprofessor what is spk?
@Ciel66 I poking fun at people who are to lazy to spell out the entire word, use close to proper grammar and punctuation. If someone can't use close to proper spelling and punctuation in a text or forum, I move along, I refuse to give myself a headache.
@madprofessor? And why you ask me to be perfect in my English as second language? I guess this not nice joke
English is used by all international pilots all over the world, they must all be fluent in it.
My original comment was a joke, and it went WAY over your head.
@madprofessor I'm not Pilot and I don't care if pilot people speak perfectly English or not and you are not the smartest because it's your native language
So, I'm not the smartest because English is my first language? Alrighty then.
You don't see me ragging on you because you're spelling isn't perfect do you? Nope. I understand that as a world we do have communication and language barriers.
@madprofessor your grammar is wrong and I don't get what you mean
@madprofessor
A few things show laziness when it comes to typing.
1. Abbreviating words that are not normally abbreviated.
2. Incorrectly abbreviating words that do get abbreviated.
3. Using numerical numbers as part of a word.
4. Using numerical numbers in place of the same word as the numerical number but is spelled differently and means something different.
@ciecl66
I walked away from the topic, for the simple fact, we have a difference of opinions. Now you are attacking my spelling and grammar? Go look at your last post, I looks like a 8th grader from some third world shit hole wrote it, who acts like their shit don't stink.
@madprofessor it's my 2nd language and you can't write correctly while you are native
Shame on you has arrogance and low self esteem
My grammar and spelling has been better than yours. So. Um. Yeah. I wasn't ragging on you till you started to stir the shit pot.
@madprofessor go fuck yourself
@ciel66 such a stunning and brave comment.
@madprofessor you are welcome
Well it’s already English and used to be French many years ago, most countries around the world tend to know English because that’s the language of the money of the world
Probably English. It is used in a lot of countries after all
English, it's by far the most dominant language on the planet.
English is pretty much our universal language at this point.
It's already English. Most people are passible in it.
I think a nee world language must be produce which is the learn easly
It would only be fair that it be a new language created from all languages.
That would be extremely hard to do.
So English.
Mandarin Chinese, it’s the most abundant so less people would have to adapt.
English. As it used by many professional environments
A universal sign language
I think English would be the easiest for everyone.
@EyesOfGod exactly.
Esperanto. It was designed for that purpose
English and Latin.
Spanish. Sounds sexy.
Latin since it's the root of many languages
Death. It's not hard to understand
You have officially won the comment section. Respect +100
@errorgoodnameunfound dust to dust. Nice. Oscar one whisky
