Do you agree with Jason Haddad that homelessness should be criminalized and that evicted people should volunteer or work to earn back housing rights?

- It’s been medically proven that 50% of homeless people have undiagnosed brain injuries meaning they are not intelligent enough to work but can’t get social assistance because nobody was willing to get them an appointment with a brain specialist to confirm their disability, or hire a lawyer for them to get them considered, or house their identification papers for them in their home during the bureaucratic process. My friend had a brain injury and her friend who, knew her before her car accident took care of her legal documents after her husband abandoned her and now around 15-20 years later, she is more intelligent than those without brain injuries. Is this still revelant?

- No, housing right is a basic human right that should not be revoked by any society for any reason. Making homelessness illegal will just make conditions worse for homeless people. It is not a solution, it is a self-aggrandizing way to exacerbate stigmas and misunderstandings that prevent from society from ever creating a helpful solution and getting people off the streets. Is this still revelant?
Right, because why have to work for your own keep when you can feed off the taxpayers dime month after month like a leech or vampire?
@SlightlyEccentric Every homeless person I've seen has a job, but they still can't afford housing. And they still pay taxes like everyone else.
Woman you're 18. Probably still in high school or just graduated. You haven't seen anything yet.
I've seen a lot of homeless who have never held a job, refuse to get one and would rather live off a fat government check every month getting drunk and drugged up than actually earn their keep.
Fact is, being homeless is a choice. If they actually used the programs set in place to get out of homelessness then there would be very minimal homelessness, not being at the highest numbers we've seen since the 90s.- Show All Show Less
@SlightlyEccentric Dude I've been surrounded by homeless people my entire life, I've been at risk of homelessness myself. I grew up in a poor community where there is almost no escape. All of the "programs" people love complaining about are difficult to access and the government finds every loophole possible to screw people over. Obviously there is a minority of people who live off the system, but it's a minority. Those "fat checks" aren't enough to feed people, so they buy unhealthy food because it's all they can afford. And yes, many homeless people use drugs or alcohol, but that use started from getting an injury, being in constant pain, and turning to drugs so that they can stand to live in their own bodies. I have watched people grow up poor, stay poor, and die because nobody helped them. I've seen plenty of it. I managed to get out because I happened to get good grades and get into a good college elsewhere. Few people get that lucky. Most people don't choose to suffer. Stop observing a few lazy people and assuming that's everyone. And don't assume I haven't seen anything because of the age listed on my profile.
@NopeWhatTime… I need to say this. It’s not often you see homeless women. The system offers help to these women but it’s men you see OVERWHELMINGLY on the streets. A woman can easily get a live in situation with friends or family. Sometimes it comes with a cost… a relationship, sex, rent… but with society set to treat women better and more fragile women don’t go homeless very often. Sorry to say that.
Also… laziness is the cause of homelessness. To avoid being homeless I worked a job I didn’t like. I’ve offered homeless people a job many times. The pay sucks but you’ll work so much OT you’ll have a home again… but they never contact my contact within the company. Never. Not one god damn time. Not ONCE. And I’ve offered dozens jobs. No I’m sorry these people are lazy and make bad decisions. That’s why their homeless. I went homeless for the same reason. I had to change to come back. But to think the homeless put forth the same effort? Na their lower then society by choice.@VanillaSalt If you honestly think that trading sex for a home to live in or staying with an abusive person instead of freezing on the streets is "helping" then we are clearly speaking two different languages.
As far as people contacting you for jobs: how exactly should they contact you? The phone they can't afford the bill on? Emailing on a computer they don't have? Walking into a store grungy and dirty and getting dirty looks? What do you expect people to do?

- This guy isn't living up to Christian principles then. Christians are called to be charitable. Yes the Bible say essentially "those who don't work, won't eat." But I'm pretty sure it never tells us to make it IMPOSSIBLE to recover from homelessness. He doesn't sound very bright either. This sounds like the same policy used by politicians in the 90s to outlaw homelessness in local cities. I don't think this guy is actually Christian or conservative, maybe he's controlled opposition? Or just a troll. I wouldn't vote for him. He needs to understand that everyone has a rough patch every now and then, some worse than others, and sometimes we need help.Is this still revelant?
- So… he wants to give homeless people jobs? Support! Look at California now… specially Los Angeles. Homelessness it causing dedication in public, needles on the ground, drugs in the streets, and crashing housing prices… this isn’t acceptable and needs to be fixed. And you can’t demand I make someone a home I’m not getting paid for so yeah.Is this still revelant?

618- Are you sure that you're representing him correctly? In his own words he's "libertarian on many social issues and may run as an independent".

He calls himself conservative, Christian and Republican repeatedly on TikTok, such as in this example:
www.tiktok.com/.../7057661529025416494Well, he might call himself that to get donations. Doesn’t sound like he’s any of those things to me.
- “Criminalized” homelessness seems a separate and harsher issue. Offering the poor better housing with programs that work with their income or labor issues will do nothing but help the issue.
Throwing them into our for profit prisons seems like a corporate lobby idea.ReactLike

The guy hasn’t held a paying job for more than 5 months, but he thinks he has what it take to run city?
C’mon now. His platform is ridiculous.
Thankfully, his gofundme goal of $100,000 has only 4 donations totalling $40. That’s promising.
He has little support.ReactLike

- No. Honestly, we haven’t created an accessible path for homeless people to get out of poverty. It’s pretty hard to try to create a stable foundation and get a job when your basic needs aren’t secured.React

- Seems like a VERY strange thing for a guy who doesn't have a real job - he's a volunteer at thrift stores, etc. for almost 3 years so he's likely on welfare or benefits - to say.
Bluntly he might as well criminalize himself & send himself to jail.ReactLike
