Generally speaking, you only take an influx of people in when you've got your own ducks in a row. For various reasons, the significant majority of countries are struggling or failing to even provide for the people they already have, and the US is no exception. In fact it has historically rarely been an exception despite most of its largest waves of immigration happening at the worst possible times.
Your argument is basically that because empty land exists, we have room. Really? You're going to just pluck some refugees from the border and sit them down in some empty land somewhere? That's not charity; that's a humanitarian crisis, which is exactly what's going on at the border. It's also a dumb argument because almost every country on the planet with the exception of smaller former bloc countries and some in southeast Asia have "empty land."
Texas has exactly four metropolitan areas where roughly 85% of the state population lives: Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Almost anything beyond that area, or mid-sized cities like Lubbock and Odessa-Midland do not have anything close to the infrastructure needed to support even a relatively small building project. If you travel more than *maybe* an hour from those centers, you will find little more than ghost towns. Thanks mainly due to the mass migration of businesses and wealth from the northeast and west coast, the cost of land is going through the roof, and it's very plausible that large chunks of Texas cities are going to become overrun with homelessness in the near future. Austin is already well on its way and looked down on as a mini-California. The costs of materials to build or even maintain new housing are also shooting through the roof too, so to head off your logical next question: don't expect any of the above to favorably change in less than 5 years, and that's assuming that state and federal governments nationwide pull their collective heads out of their asses and actually start doing things right, rather than pandering to people's fleeting emotions.(1.) There is no inherent right to live where you please, humans are territorial and territory may only exchange hands under agreed exchange or by force (like war).
(2.) They're not coming here to contribute sweetheart they want benefits without having to put the work in. They know where they come from sucks but that they can get benefits here no matter their employment status or ability. If our social safety nets were based on merit this wouldn't be problem but they aren't.
(3.) It's not about how much land or not is available because that doesn't change economics. Immigrants don't come in, establish a commune out in the middle of nowhere, and live. They move into urban areas and compete with the native population for resources, jobs, and housing. They also do not share a similar culture to the native population which will cause resentment.
In summary, borders and laws n sh*t exist for a reason because of how human history and doctrine regarding nation-states works and your feelings can't undo thousands of years of established proper standards. As a person from the third world, I honestly understand governments concern. Since I would take decisions such as what they do.
I have tried an immigration program to Canada, I don't love the weather but I certainly love their social system. I was rejected, and their terms are so hard I think I must be sort of 200 IQ shit, and 3 million years of work experience.
But honestly, there's something in western governments laws that I find despicable. And that's when they say you have to marry a citizen in order to come, and I can't have this face like some people honestly
"Hi, I want to marry you just to live in your country"... This fucks up the whole concept of family and relationships and marriage..
So I have to be a good lair, I have to be extremely deceptive and degenerate in order to be immigrant, this is how the law works, then they complain why immigrants are like this or that. And then they say honestly, unless you are trafficked and smuggled to our lands, you're not welcome. you won't just knock on the door like a human being who respects himself and our laws, may I come in I like your system and your income per capita I want to participate grow this economy.
So people are worried about changing demographics, their worried immigrants are coming to rip them of their values. And I honestly understand they don't like the immigration system...
Otherwise you better believe it, there are a lot of Conservatives who are really not bigots, they like to foster friendships from other cultures and so on.
I have good friends from Texas, and they are difinitely not what liberals want to view them, just like because they hate the downside of classic America.Well... I don't live in Texas. I live in fucking Sweden that over the course of deccades have had a VERY generous immigration policy. Here are some things you need to know about accepting people in huge quantities.
It's not a matter of economy nor space for them to live. It's a matter of how well and quickly your society can integrate and house those that get to your country. My country is cold. A sudden increase in population will cause issues when it comes to housing and people can't survive here without housing. Housing needs electricity and to meet the very sudden need of housing you have to upgrade your power distribution. The people that come here are gonna need to go to school, learn a new language, customs as well as a trade. Many refugees therefore are unable to contribute, as you say, for years.
While this process is full underway many people will suffer and think their situation unfair, it will lead to a sudden increase in crimes, need for more investment into your justice system, police as well as the cost of damage from riots, gang violence etc.
Meanwhile as society tried it best politicians make a huge deal out of what is most humane and "the right thing to do" polarizing the population into different opposing groups with different morals, causing social problems as they start having trouble working togeather due to different values etc...
Need I go on?Unless you're willing to put up resources I suggest you keep your mouth shut. The problem isn't that we don't have space, it's the financial burden and strain on our failing economy to support people who will be on the system for generations to come. Not to mention the fact that they will most likely vote blue and destroy our country even further. Most of these refugees skip over many other countries that would offer asylum because they cannot benefit from using the system the way they can here. Meanwhile if an American wanted to be a refugee in their country they would be shot on the spot.
Most of these people receive free healthcare, food stamps, housing and a slew of other things meanwhile veterans who served our country are left the suffer from ptsd homeless. It is wrong to help others if you don't help your own first.
Further more why let pedophiles and murders in? They do it all the time. Zero background checks. Half of these illegals have weapons meanwhile Americans are unarmed.
It should be America first! All day every day!Because a lot of people don't contribute, and most countries' social welfare systems aren't -- and can't be -- strong enough to support everyone who wants to come but not contribute. Or who wants to come but *can't* contribute.
Especially since, the stronger the system and the more open the borders, the more people will pick THAT country when they're looking for someplace to go but not contribute.
Don't get me wrong: I'm in favor of much more open borders than most countries have right now. I do believe that anybody who wants to contribute should be allowed in, and almost anyone without a serious criminal record should be allowed to live somewhere on a temporary basis, to prove whether they're going to be an asset to the country or a drag on its resources. In that sense, I'm very much in favor of open borders.
But there has to be some way to allow countries to decide, "You've had two years to live in our country and all you've done is draw on our assistance services without even trying to work. We're not going to let you keep doing it forever."Because often the people coming in don't respect the rules or politics of they place they're going to.
They want the money and life quality of the place, but they want to bring their country with them. Many refuse to integrate, they aren't interested in learning the language, and they often breed like rats.
I definitely support booting illegal immigrants out - If your first act upon entering a new country is to have broken its laws by entering, then you don't belong.
The higher quality of life will disappear as populations rise, shitty cultures don't integrate but instead compete with the host culture. If more and more people spill in, then nicer parts of the world become the same as the shittier parts of the world migrants both created, and were trying to escape in the first place.People are against the idea because this is a constitutional republic. With anyone coming into the country without documentation, we start to have conflicting choices in how we should be governed because the people who are not documented will not have the same appreciation for the laws, policies, and officials they vote on as tax- paying citizens. For example, If you and your loved ones didn't have to pay taxes, would you care if you vote for an official who would raise taxes? Another concern is that open borders would be a big WELCOME sign for baddies (murderers, rapists, etc) from other countries. They escape conviction and continue their behavior in a new land with the advantage of anonymity.
The issue is we don’t elect based off popular vote… it’s based off the electoral college which is based off the US census which does not confirm immigration status. That means illegals are counted under the census and then used to determine the number of votes particular areas have…
Furthermore when you introduce new ways of thinking it can build a strong culture but some cultures don’t mix. We could never allow nazis to live here allowing Jews and blacks… I know Nazi isn’t a race but same concept. I do agree allowing people to live where they wants important though… we funnel minorities into small ghettos because that’s the only place they can afford. It makes for high crime areas along and leads to poor schooling opportunities.I'm all for people coming when unemployment is non-existing but when citizens can't find jobs, and more people move in, is that really a good idea?
Then again, housing/rent is so high as it is, more people moving in will drive it even higher, people can't even find places to live as it is.
So first we need to get unemployment under 1% and then get housing costs down so that housing is affordable, then we can start opening the doors to those who can fill those jobs and have a place to live.I'm from Texas as well, and the issue isn't about land but about economics and society in general. If tomorrow a group of religious fundamentalist moved into your area and started demanding for changes which will affect your lifestyle, then you will be forced to move elsewhere. Land prices are also different in different places, so people can't simply move in wherever they want since the cost of living will prevent them from doing so. I'm not too familiar with Los Angeles but I heard homelessness is an issue there.
If you eliminate all social safety nets that might work... That means no minimum wage, no social security, no medicare, no medicaid, no welfare. no food stamps, no stimulus checks, no food stamps, no public education, no fire service, no police service, no public hospitals, no free roads, etc. you get the idea? If you want public services then you have to wisely select who you are willing to include in your civilization. Are you ready to give all that up and go back to paying for everything on demand with no minimum wage and raw competition with no worker safety standards? Well are you?
We live in a culture defendant from an attitude that resources are limited and that we have to fight for them.
In reality, the only resource that matters is human ingenuity. We have the raw materials necessary too provide for every human on the planet, but not the unity too make it happen. Tribalism has divided us into nations and communities. Nationalism has made us enemies, with the interest of the state taking precedence over that of the people.
Selfishness has divided us as a species.can I go live in your house? I will work and pay rent
but also my friend wants to come they work too and pay rent but doesn't clean
and also his cousins want to come too, I don't know if they work, some of them are lazy and just want to go because your house is nicer. Oh their mom wants to come too and her two sisters, they also work but need help because they can't work a lot.
also her neighbor wants to come too, they don't like to keep their yard clean but they just need to go to your house to make money.
We will go tomorrow if you agree thanks if not we might just have to break in and stay there we mean no harm at all, we can sleep in the living room and any spare rooms you have. I don't know them all too well so just keep your valuable under lock and key just in case.
see you soon! Thank you!! :DBecause it's not that simple. Plenty of immigrants come and don't work, especially the illegal ones. You also have no way to vet or see if any of them are criminals. I'm all for a REVAMPED immigration process to process more people in a more efficient manner. But they NEED to be required to work here and contribute to the economy. It's a very "grey" situation. Open borders is a pretty naive and silly policy without considering everything at hand. Look at how open borders affected a lot of European countries.
I can speak only for my own country. Venezuela is one of our neighbours. To say that that country is going down the tube is an understatement. So many Venezuelans are fleeing their country to seek a better life in other countries, and there has been a debate here about letting them in. The problem for my country, however, is that we simply don't have the land space or the resources to sustain everyone. In fact, partly because of the recent increase in the cost of living here, some of the Venezuelans already here have decided to return home to their own country.
Unfortunately we have yet to evolve beyond our previous tribal nature, despite all the advances we have made elsewhere, so continue to label people as being "other" due to the location of their birth.
Until we view all humans as human and our origin being the planet earth (as opposed to smaller and smaller sections of land thereon) we'll never truly survive as a species. We do not really have the resources to take in millions of uneducated, indigent people. The government estimates that each illegal alien costs taxpayers between 30 and 50 thousand dollars per year per person. Multiply this by 3 or 4 million or more and it adds up to billions pretty fast. Healthcare facilities, and schools are overcrowded enough ans we have to take resources away from the elderly and veterans.
Gotta love how it's all liberal women carrying the banner for this. In reality, refugees commit a higher rate of crime and exploit welfare at a higher rate. These are facts, not theories. In addition they reproduce at 3 times the rate of civilized western people and eventually replace the population. I one hundred percent understand why people wouldn't want them here. Sounds good in theory to let people live wherever they want, but the consequences are disastrous in reality.
You have a garden with 1000 strawberry bushes. You're 3 people and your yield is good enough for exchange of other stuff with strawberries as long as you're maintaining those bushes properly. Now 300 other people come into your garden, who want strawberries but don't want contribute any effort to keep those strawberry bushes alive.
