Would you return money if you found it?

So I was talking to someone yesterday who told me that he received a phone call from someone daughter to help pull their vehicles out the mud. Originally he said that he told the ladies that he owed them nothing after they tried to give him money as a thank you.

He said when he went to the truck he found $100 on the ground. His story changed 3 times. He said that he found it in the water on the way back to the truck. I then proceeded to ask “well did you ask them did they lose $100 bill”. He proceeded to say that they are broke and he knows for a fact that they didn’t lose it. Then I reminded him that it could have been anyone $100 bills that was at the residence and they probably are looking for it. Then he changed his story to that he asked the girls about the $100 bill and both said it was neither their money. Then he proceeded to say “ you know what it’s my money because I think it fell from my shirt pocket and I got it bad putting money in my shirt pocket”.

I was reminding him that if I found $100 bill laying on the ground that I would at least find the owner of it since it’s on someone else property. He said the wind blew it to where he was. He said that it was his blessing since he came out into the rain to help the two women out of the mud. I didn’t feel right at all about how he got the $100. He said that he have the $100 drying off and he going to put gas in his truck. I’m a very honest person about anything but he sounded happy that he got $100. His story changed numerous of times.
