She broke a law in Russia and now is serving time in Russia I don't see the issue here
If you don't want to get arrested by the Russians then don't break a Russian law while inside Russia that's kind of like rule 101 don't break laws in the country you're in if you don't want to get arrested
When stupid games earn stupid prizes and that was one really stupid game like Russia is no joke I'm sure that she is going to significantly regret her time in a Russian prison and she will not do something so stupid again if she has enough brain cells to comprehend the idea of "hey don't break the laws of a tyrannical country while inside the country"

is she really a GUY?
I travel the world and follow the laws of the country I am in at all times. Its common sense and respect. Even some of the stupid laws (there are many) so a part of me feels little sympathy for her. However I cannot help but think this is Russia and the charges are probably trumped up and manipulated to gain some influence with the USA.
You have to obey the laws of the country you visit. Just because its legal where you are from doesn't make it legal where you are going, like drinking alcohol in Saudi Arabia.

You are batshit insane.
You have never been to Russia.
I have.
And I had to pay a bribe to get through security on one trip back to the states.
I haven't been back in years and I probably never will see the nation again, because of the corruption there. I am pretty certain Griner had no drugs on her possession. She is being used because of Putin's hatred of the democrats in America. Lots of athletes used to travel to Russia for sports. Very few were lesbian.in those cases I'd say send them back home with warning. do it again, and they go to jail. We need to be human beings first. Treat others as you want to be treated.
10 years for 1st offense is nuts... I'm assuming her first, even if it's true.
I saw the movies about people going to turkish prisons and russia be as bad. no thanks.
there's a list of counties I wouldn't step foot in, russia is one.
Civility, humanity...Russia is one of those countries where corruption is endemic and there is lots of propaganda, so you can't take anything at face value even in ordinary geopolitical times, which these are not. The best thing to do would be for the US to negotiate her release on humanitarian grounds.
I have no idea who this person is, but as they saying goes, "If you do the crime you do the time". No sympathy here.
I don't know who that is.
No matter if we're ''at home'' or abroad - it's best to know the local do's and don'ts.
''The Authorities'' always have the stronger arm; no matter if we agree with them, or not.
I'm an expat myself - I do the ''bad'' things where no one sees it, or among friends.
She could have done the same.I don't feel sorry or her. When you're visiting another country, you are bound by their laws. She must think that being American gave her special privileges. "Do you know who I am?"
Rules are rules! Pot is illegal there? Don't have pot there!
You follow the laws where you are. My sister said her friend was told to get off a plane in China. She refused and then said "Don't I have rights" thr Chinese officer said "No", because people don't have those right in China. Nothing bad happened to her, but she forgot that the laws are different in China.
Also read up on Michael Peter Fay. He was caned in Singapore which is normal there, but not here.if you act in violation of the law of a country, then it is right to carry the legal consequences oft hat violation, cause it what only your choice to violate it.
She doesn't deserve it on the count of stupidity, but damn this sh*t is funny! 😂 Who TF smuggles weed into Russia? And of course she has an attitude when she's a giant compared to everyone. Tall people be like that.
She is a black lesbian... she was born with victim card tucked away in the form of a vagina.
Taking drugs to a foreign country shows that she is stoopid or thinks she is special and therefore above the law.
Let her rot in jail.If you smuggle drugs into a country such as Malaysia or Indonesia which has a mandatory death penalty for that then if you get caught you can't expect anything else because you knew of the consequences.
I wouldn't say she deserves it. But she made the choice to go there knowing full well the political climate. If people don't get when you leave the United States borders you leave it's protection, then that's on them.
non-celebrities break laws in foreign countries and "pay the price" all the time. I'm not giving her a special pass for any of her victim cards here. It wasn't an honest mistake, it was intentional breaking of the laws of that country.
Russians swigging vodka while condemning marijuana is hilariously ignorant, but Murrrica isn't too far ahead of them on that subject.
give her the death penalty! what the hell is she doing in russia anyways
They used to have a comercial if you get caught with drugs in a foreign country. You are in for the hassle of your life. I'm sure it probably would of been different if the current events were different
Free her and fuck Russia and Putin
Everyone hates Russia, such an evil backwards shitty country without any freedomI mean it's stupid to be sent to jail for pot. But she dig her own hole, took risks I'm another country. A country full of alacholics , which is extremely odd. Maybe they should make pot legal.
Yeah not too smart bringing it out of country, hopefully they don’t hold her too long there before war starts in that country
