If hitting others is wrong, why do people get into fights for just words being said?

For instance, there was a video about a girl punching another racist girl. People were saying the racist Karen got what she deserved.

Or people getting into fights because ''he talked about my mother'' thing.

That contradicts the very concept that assaulting others not in self-defense is wrong. Someone talking bad about your mother, calling you stupid or telling you racist remarks isn't self-defense. You still did your part in turning an verbal situation into a physical altercation. It's still wrong to hit others for being antagonistic jerks. Yes they said mean stuff but you started hitting.

Hitting someone because said mean things can still land you in jail. Either that or it means you can't control yourself and care so much about words.

In most cases words should never be challenged with anything physical but there is a line say u have a bomb on you at a airport or fire at a cinema and u will get arrested and have your rights taken away so we already know there is some level of understanding where its not as simple as just being words as words can also convey threats its crazy how people claim freedom of speech yet we all know some things u say will get u bagged and tagged

As much as being a racist Karen is annoying, the girl had every right not to like someone for their race and express it. She didn't commit a crime there. The other girl that punched her committed battery. By doing that, she accidentally condone the stereotype of her race, reconfirming that they can be violent people of low class, lol.

You're confused, kiddo.

Self defence can be physical or verbal. But in a court of law, what you say CAN be punished just as harshly as what you do.

But obviously if you're beaten to a pulp then the court needs to mitigate that against your sentence. The other part can still get off with self defence for what you said.

You've obviously never paid attention at school hence don't know "fighting words" are an actual real thing.

I'll write a short example.
Me: I say that with a smile on my face.
Other woman: Gets closer, demanding what I said, to say it in her face.
Me: ''I SAID YOUR MOM IS AS UGLY AND A WHORE LIKE YOU'' (as loud as possible) and once again smiled.
Other woman: throws the first punch and turns it into a fight

How would I get punished for that in court?

Technically I would be in the right to fight her back since she still hit first (I didn't threaten her life nor others, I only insulted/mocked her and her mom). Logically, she could've come back with more insults, good comebacks, something creative too... use her mouth instead of fists.
