What do you think of this video about society and labels?

Basically, "Human beings should not mold their identities by labels created around ethnicities, gender, sexuality, nationality, etc. that they were born as."

Damn, this was beautiful. And I've always felt this way, even though the crazy times we're in, started to make me doubt the message.

It’s a good message and I like it.

The issue is the human mind does have a way do categorizing objects, situations and unfortunately variations of people. No well functioning human brain does not do it. It’s something that came from evolution to help ensure our ancestor’s survival.

There are some genetic variations of different of ethnicities. Of course that doesn’t predetermine someone’s life choices. But it does impact physiological differences and leads to tribalism.

Anyway I believe race for better or worse will always be component of society and existence.

But when people make it THE issue than there are issues. And lots of people nowadays think making race THE issue is somehow altruistic when that in itself leads to prejudice. Prejudice leads to racism. The last few decades has taught us that racism doesn’t always start of bad intentions. But racism does start off as making race THE issue. So I get what this guy is saying.

I agree with this. I try to live my life like that but sometimes the world makes it hard. It didn't seem this hard 20 years ago.

I think it's just another of those feel-good videos that would be counterproductive otherwise. No one likes or wants to be labeled as something they don't identify with but labels and groups exist for a reason. People still prefer to near people who are genetically and/or culturally similar to them; that's why we don't have open borders and why even the immigrants that enter tend to form ethnic enclaves. I'm not saying people should be judged completely based off their appearances , just that appearances can give you a decent idea of their personality. The way someone dresses or treats themselves.

It's a decent video just because it sounds good but the message is about as good as anything you'd find on libs of tiktok.

I completely disagree. I can understand how the video is too sugary and feel-good, but my whole point is, yes, humans may be xenophobic and stupid at first, but it's up to us to transcend these more primitives ways of thinking.

The problem is, people are either too afraid to or don't want to. If something is a legitimatize threat (like the LGBT agenda trying to brainwash young children), that's one thing. But the video is talking about everyday people. If someone isn't a threat to me or trying to indoctrinate me or destroy my way of life, I couldn't care less about their ethnicity, gender, or lifestyle. And I think more people should be like that, but I know most people are still stuck in their tribalistic ways.

That's fair, if you're with people who are "normal" to you, it's not going to be a issue. Some people have a different view on what's normal. Plus, some people can't make that judgement and are probably going to be more paranoid than most people. Everyone is going to be "tribal" to some degree, the difference is just where you place the "Us" and "Them" label. Politics is one way. If you don't care about the person you're interacting with, be it someone like the cashier, than of course nothing here matters, they won't affect you. Is that what you're talking about?
