What do you think of people who call themselves 'king/alpha' or 'queen?'?

Lately, and I've seen this more from the guy's side than ours (but still existent none the less), I've seen posts and comments where people will call themselves the aforementioned names, hyping themselves up and putting themselves on that pedestal. And god forbid you disagree with them, lest be called a simp, or a pick me girl, etc.

Personally, I can't take people like that seriously. One of my favorite lines from A Song of Ice and Fire reads "Any man who must say, 'I am the king' is no true king." And I believe this to be true (for both men and women); actions speak louder than words. Other similar quote such as “The smallest dog barks the loudest, " or "A confident man doesn’t feel a need to prove that he’s confident," and "A rich woman doesn’t feel a need to convince anybody that she’s rich" are others that I feel parallel the king quote.

But, that's my opinion. What do you all think?

I think labels like alpha, beta, simp, queen, etc. that are promoted on the internet are a joke. Only insecure losers and narcissists think like that.

What's worse is when guys aspire to be "alpha males" and girls aspire to the commercialized versions of plastic Barbies or queens.

There's a guy who claims to be too short to get a girlfriend even though it's 5'10". He claims that he's ugly when he's not. He's fat, doesn't have a six figure income... , any excuse to deny what the real problem is.
In reality, he wants to be admired by all as a god. He fantasizes about super heroes. He thinks that being "average" is the worst thing imaginable.

I also had a cousin who was maybe 5'8" max and as dumb as a box of Cherios. He became a body builder and imagined that it made him an alpha stud. He never made it in body building or modeling and couldn't understand why they didn't recognize his alphaness. In fact, nobody recognized his alphaness because he was an idiot and a prick. He wasn't even athletic or talented.

Those are just examples of guys who aspire to be alpha.

The desire to be #1 makes me sick. I never aspired to it even though I was 6'2", fit, not bad looking, and had moderate intelligence and skills. I don't have to be the best at everything. I don't have to dominate anyone. I kinda like fitting in.

And, honestly, the girls I dated were sweet, fun and beautiful. They weren't trying to be queens, even though girls like being treated like queens by their partners. Both men and women love being admired and respected by their partners, but not necessarily by everyone on the planet.

Real men have a quiet confidence. They have strong morals, ethics and steely resolve. They can do what needs to be done, but they don't brag about it. They don't need to.

I don't know about girls who aspire to be queens. I think that started with African American women. But other girls aspire to be Barbies by means of plastic surgery and makeup.

Women who have normal values, morals, hopes and dreams, brains, self esteem, good work ethic, and determination to succeed in life don't have to put on airs.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't work to be the best you can be and to continually seek improvement. It's just that doing so out of a need to be better than everybody is sad. It shows a damaged ego. Even their definitions of alpha and queen are warped. They have bad role models.

Losers coping hard on social media. But let's be honest, it's mostly women who do this. Guys who call themselves "Alpha" get laughed out of the room. Also, with men, actions speak louder than words, so that rarely works. Lots of women like to call themselves "Diva, Girlboss, Alpha Female, Princess, Queen, Queen Bee, Goddess" and all other kinds of stupid buzzwords they got from Buzzfeed, though. I've never seen a guy call himself "Alpha" before outside of Reddit...

I don't even like George R. R Martin's works, but I agree with you: "Any man who must say, 'I am the king' is no true king."

The irony though is you posting this and saying you dislike it, when you do have the size, strength, and (from what I can tell) demeanor to be a "queen/alpha female." @Ms_Facesitter, too. So I agree that it's something that small dogs do to feel special. So here's my spin on that quote: "The smallest dog barks the loudest, that's why bitches can never shut up."

The whole concept has been disproven. I don't buy into it at all. And, yes, I agree with you and those who say that a person who feels confident in whatever ability or trait, does not need to state it.

Leaders are created by followers. People who declare themselves above everyone else don't earn the respect of everyone else. Your quotes are very true. This is all about insecure people doing what they believe they need to do in order to feel good about themselves. Just let it slide and don't respond to them. It's the responses from others that fuel this pattern. If everyone ignored them, they'd fade into the woodwork. They don't get more than momentary pleasure from the responses of others. That's the reason they continue to come back for more.

You beat me to the punch with the Lanister line. I can't take them seriously because it has become more of a meme than anything. One who calls themselves as such are more often than not the exact opposite of that.

Anyone who really is king/alpha/queen will not need to say it and their actions will truly determine who they are. It is one thing to hype yourself up, but there comes a fine line between humility and arrogance.

A king can be a mindset, so ok I'll let it pass.
An alpha is based off how other men and women respond to you, so ok I'll let it pass.
A Queen is given her title by way of a King, as the monarchy is a patriarchal organisation, so a single woman calling herself a queen is the only red flag I see.

To call yourself an 'alpha' means you believe you are genuinely on top of society or in your own conception of what society is. No matter if it is actually true or not that you are indeed at a high point in your society or yourself does not give you an option to perceive yourself as better than another individual. What an 'alpha' is depends on ones definition, such as strength or societal power. If the people around you do not believe you are an 'alpha', then you aren't one, because society decides if they put you on that pedestal. If people do not wish for someone to consider themselves an alpha, then we as a whole must show that we do not perceive themselves as one and that we feel that they are either equal to our worth, or below it. The concept of an alpha is an idea, but it only exists if we give into that idea.

They are usually insecure and overcompensating for something. As you said, people who truly feel confident about a specific area or trait don't need to shout it from the rooftops. Quiet confidence is true confidence. Bragging is insecurity.

I think you're 100% accurate. If someone describes themself that way and put some cells on a pedestal, I think they are behaving shallowly and from a place of insecurity. Definitely not a positive in the way they think it is
