Rick Scott is asking Chuck Schumer to reconvene the Senate to pass a supplemental aid package for those affected by Hurricane Ian. Here's why that's highly unlikely.

Scott, along with fellow Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, has also written to Senate appropriators on drafting a disaster supplemental bill.

The key phrase here: "Clean bill." Senators, including Rubio, have voiced opposition in the past to disaster aid that would have helped their states because the bills contained unrelated spending.

Will Schumer do it? It's highly unlikely. Congress just passed a stopgap government funding measure, which Scott voted against, that included billions to allow FEMA to spend money through the Disaster Relief Fund at higher rates, and respond to ongoing and future disasters.
