What is your opinion on the whole Woke movement?

Question

So you know, the woke generation: supporting BLM, The LGBTQ community, equal gener rights, feminism and basically terms you can use and not use or what you can and cannot say.

Is it all crossing the line? It seems impossible to give opinions nowadays without someone getting offended.

Other than the language control, which I am not at all fond of or in agreement with due to obfuscation, am mostly for it and it is about time.

The whole point in being "woke" is to discover the viewpoints of others and give you an enhanced worldview.

I will give an example and nothing about the "woke movement" (or whatever) made this happen...

In November 2017, I began reading the 2016 novel "The Power" by Naomi Alderman.
Now, in this novel, a world-wide dormant mutation in girls starts expressing itself. With the onset of adolescence, teen girls start developing a new organ along their collarbone. This organ, which is called a skein, can generate static electrical discharges just like an electric eel. So, with their hands, girls can start zapping people... even to the point of killing them like an electric eel can. It is soon discovered that if a girl zaps an older woman, the woman will then soon grow her own skein. And we also learn that all baby girls will grow them too. So, all over the world, girls and women will have this newfound lethal ability - an ability that males do not have...

As I read this novel, I began to identify as a male in the world as it transitions to a world in which women are now dominant. I could imagine myself being scared of pissing off some woman and her zapping me... because she can... and I can't defend against that. Or girls might want to have fun torturing me with zaps - all because they can and I can't fight back.

This was a bit distressing...

But then I learned the truth about the real world...
This was my "woke moment"...
I learned that many girls and women feel this way now! That they fear men or boys because they are stronger and can hurt or dominate the female. So, women in today's world live with a certain level of caution and fear around this.
To me, this was shocking and unimaginable because the male's fundamental role via evolution is to take care of women and protect them, etc. This is something many men feel instinctively so harming a female because we can is anathema to us. YET, the world is not free of abuse to women by men such as rape and, in the past, other methods of either controlling women or preventing them from participating more fully in society such as the dress codes in Muslim society or inability to own property or vote here in the USA long ago. In other words, yes, males in the current world can be abusive to women and women rightfully do have cautious fears about males and our behavior.

My discovery of this was shocking. I have discussed this with females I know and they confirmed it - something I never had imagined.

Thus, I became woke to that aspect of the female experience. Now I can become more empathetic toward them in this aspect of their lives. I might not ever become aware of that if I had not read that novel and, by placing myself in its world, experiencing the same fears that real women do.

It's a good thing.

And it's not just a whiny liberal thing. It's a conservative thing too. For instance, if whiny coastal liberals lived in the midwest for a while, then they'd begin to see why many conservatives view the world that they do. For instance, I am a coastal liberal, but I live in Missouri now and understand why we teach kids about guns at an early age. It's because guns are an important part of the culture here - hunting, which was necessary for survival and still is to a degree (your meat bill goes waaaaay down when you kill it yourself; when you are poor already, that's important). Also, guns are tools - sometimes you need to protect your family from rabid wild animals. Also, guns are protection. Out here, it DOES take the police 30 minutes to get to your house. You have to be able to protect yourself and your family.

So, am I one of those liberals who want to take guns away? No. Not at all. At the same time, we don't need assault rifles which, in a city, could kill dozens of people quickly. Anyway, my moving here helped "wake me" to have a new perspective on gun ownership - one I would not have had living in suburbia or a city where the needs for a gun are not as important.

There's a balance to everything and being "woke" means helping find that balance - helping us realize what is important to everyone and not just ourselves.

Look i don't have a problem if someone wants to support the woke movement. Personally i dislike and do not support the movement. Due to multiple reasons. I have seen videos after videos from both sidwes of the argument aka people who support wokeness and people who do not support wokeness. The most common thing that i truly dislike among people who are, "woke" is that they preach you that wokeness equals inclusivity and the opurtunity for a mich greater audience to put up their different opinions. Anyone putting any opinion against wokeness trigger the eff out of these people. The whole idea of wokeness revolves around making people think they are so important that the world revolves around them which is truly not a case. If i procceed on tio disscuss about the entire, "Gen Z" phenomenon as even i am a part of that generation. I can see a generation growing up so sensitive that they can't even tolerate any opinion that does not match with their ideologies. For this reason any person who is supposedly considered a, "Non Woke" individual is bad. There is a channel on youtube called JUBILEE if anyone wants to verify the stuff i am speaking off. When extremeties form both sides do not care about a mutual understaning. I think all of us are a bit consetrvative as well as a bit liberal both politically and from a non political standpoint because we all agree and disagrere on different points. Let's take an example of LGBTQ community. I do not have a problem with homosexuals and transgenders. Infact i support gay marriage, i would definetely volunteer for transgenders getting equal oppurtunities in jobs without being judged but i will never support the idea of preaching kids that they can choose their own genders, put them on hormone blockers and calling anyone that does not support that a, "bigot". I don't have a problem with any individual i don't care whom anyone is sleeping with. But that does not justify a community bullying and harrassing people that disagree to even least of extents with them. I as a bisexual conservative right wing supporter have been bullied as hell by the community for disagreeing with them on matters and i am so thankful people are comming up and speaking against the community's evil political influence. Nextly let's talk about BLM just like i am a walking contrary to the LGBTQ community i am to the BLM my mother is a dark skinned or typically reff as black woman wheras my dad is brown and both are of Asian (Indian) origin for which i descent from a number of races. I have never and will never support BLM. If i say that publicly i will be labeled as racist when i am not at all and this is the exact thing wokeness has brought upon this reality of ours. Anyone who thinks something different should be silenced. BLM was a total political agenda and their are enormous proofs of that throughout social media and i would suggest you to look out for it yourself. If someone wants to solve Racism it is not done by doing rally's, insulting and bellitiling others but rather just not talk about it in the first place. I am not justifying racism i have seen it happen to many and deeply condemn that as a heinious thing but that does not mean i have to support a politicaly driven movement for justifying that. Another good example is the pro life/pro choice movement which is extremely polarizing with both the right and the left side of the political isle acting selfishky and stupidly. Personally i am a pro life person but that does not mean i support every pro life idea and i think that topic should have had morre disscussion instead of banning people off social media. Same with feminism. Look if you support wokeness you support wokeness i can't change your way of percieving this world what however i can say is tio be respectful and understanding enough to at least try to understand what the other sidde of the table has to say.

I was in support of the progressive cultural push toward inclusivity, equal rights, etc. But what's happened over time is too many extremists have reared up (emerged?), the demands and expectations have been crossing the line into unreasonable, and now I'm getting equally fed up with the far Left extremists. You're right, there is always someone (usually female) being irrationally offended, even when no harm was intended.

I'm an independent centrist now. I cannot abide by the shenanigans of either side. Though I'm back in Canada now, and we just had a local election and I had to do research on 11 parties and 135 candidates, so the two-party system is a problem and product of America. But regardless of parties, there is a culture war going on, and it's pretty clear now that one begets the other.

The more one side pushes, the more the other pushes back in the opposite direction. People should stop aligning with 'a side' and unfortunately the only way to slowly solve the issues are to tackle them one at a time, and hopefully find a method going forward that is somewhere in the middle. You know the old saying about compromise - when neither party is entirely happy, you know you've reached an equitable compromise.

It is people giving up their own choices to be slaves to others. After all, getting offended is a choice, and they are giving someone else the power over them. They don't seem to want to have it themselves.

Being offended is someone making a choice in advance that says if X=Y I'm going to do Z.

They set themselves up by making their choices in advance.

It is very fun to know someone's trigger in advance and light the fuse, set them off, and watch them explode. Then they have a meltdown and freak out... as they now just ruined their own day or night and it is hilarious.

Even when I agree with them and don't let them know, cause I want to watch them melt down... to teach them they should choose not to get offended. They should exercise some self control.

Almost nothing offends me, you basically have to be a rapist or a rapist sympathizer to offend me.

It is a joke movement, even though I'm all for equal rights, I won't have nothing to do with it.

I look at it as thought control. Because speech is the language of thought. We don't think in binary or hexadecimal, we think in the language we speak. So if you can control peoples speak, you can control how they think. Many aspects of the woke movement is about controlling how people speak it is about thought control.

That is also outside of the actual controlling behavior of people involved in it. These people are easy to find. Simply disagree with people in the movement or question it and watch how quickly people will attempt to scream you into submission, if not beat you into submission. What how quickly it paints a target on your forehead and how quickly you are insulted or have some negative label pushed on you.

My message to people in the woke movement is simple: Those Who Can Make You Believe Absurdities Can Make You Commit Atrocities. Don't be surprised when you are pushed to spill the blood of people that simply disagree with you or dare to question you and your movement. Because human history has shown time and time again that some of the worst atrocities are committed by people how where convinced their actions where being done for some greater good. Because the same people who convinced them to believe the absurdities they where sold before committing atrocities.

But I really hate BLM and CRT since those campaigns and ideals are ridiculous. Here is a thing. BLM or CRT do not help Black or other races at all, it just get thing worse, it makes Black hating White more, and White can not love Black more since they are complained everything they do even they have been the one helping Black a lot. BLM and CRT just tear deeper the relationship, the painfulness between Black and White, between crisis about racism. Furthermore, BLM or CRT is nothing woke and idealistic solution for something, or a new type of culture. Well, I work in a hospital and the only thing that so far gets tricky is the non-binary thing. We're supposed to ask patients what their pronouns are and the senior and elderly patients look at me like I'm speaking another language. Then if I explain it to them some of the more conservative ones go into a tirade about how the "whole world is going mad" and 🤦‍♀️. It just seems more trouble then it's worth sometimes, other than that I've always tried to be accepting of people choices, lifestyles etc.

It’s dumb, because the movement says it’s for one thing but really means another. For instance, feminism is supposed to support equal rights between men and women right? Well, most of today’s feminists seem to hate men and believe that women deserve special treatment over men.

Black Lives Matter. Well of course they do, so do white lives, brown lives, and all other lives. The truth is that all lives matter. No one race is superior to another. To effectively demonize white people is to start a race war that no one asked for.

TLDR; people today are really dumb. Everyone is angry at certain people just based on their appearance. It’s 2022, people should be able to think for themselves and realize we’re all being pitted against one another. Don’t be like those people.
