Why do so many people hate feminism?

Would you call yourself a feminist or an anti-feminist?

I've noticed there's plenty of people on here, of both genders, that are against the movement, why?

Is it because they are against gender equality or because of something that movement has done in recent years?

I just wanted to clarify the reasons why.

Some people are entirely against it, but they are a minority. Most people who seem to be against feminism are against New Wave Feminism. Many old school feminists are also against the new wave. The new wave has a few ignorant policies that turn people off. It doesn't help that New Wave Feminism is absolutely vile toward women who hold different beliefs. They will outright abuse and bully women who disagree with them. It's sad.

One of the main things is that the new wave claims to fight for all women, yet essentially ignores all the unsolved murders, rapes, and kidnappings of Native American girls, while focusing almost solely on what white and black women deal with. Jewish and Muslim women, among other minorities are often left out (like red heads). Connected to that, they are more worried about a wage gap that is misrepresented and doesn't exist for the reasons they think than they are about all the women in Iran and other countries who live in constant fear of being raped, tortured, etc. for exposing their hair in public. Are you kidding me? American and British people have such good lives and are so spoiled that they have the luxury to argue about how much mkney they should make, while they ignore people who can't even have the freedom to not die if they make an old man angry. It sickens me. Many of these same women woll gripe about how hot guys should date them while women in other countries are forced to marry gross old fucks when they are only 12.

The other main issue is that the new wave doesn't strive for equality anymore. Original feminism was about equality and nothing more. Give women the right to vote, have jobs, own property, etc. That had all been accomplished for the most part, yet the new wave is greedy and ungrateful and esnts more. For some reason, they are spiteful and want to gain freedoms and perks at the expense of men who have never done anything to them. Instead of realizing that 1% of people control the world, and most of them happen to be men, they blame all men for basically every problem, even though 99% of men are at the mercy of the top 1% just like they are. They try to dominate and belittle men instead of working together. They want all the perks of being a man without any of the downsides.

And perhaps the last main thing that annoys most people about that offshoot of true feminism is that original feminism is that the most extreme, rude, unreasonable members of the movement are the loudest on social media and get the most exposure, so people get the wrong impressive based on a few very loud, very hateful people. Social media has given the world as a whole the impression that feminists are A) fat, ugly women who only truly care about themselves and just hate men because they won't date them instead of working on themselves to be more attractive B) Whores who just want to be whores and everyone still love and worship them C) Men who are actually assholes or simps but pander to feminism to try to get laid. How true is any of that? I don't know. But I do know that's the growing perception of the movement, and it sucks because actual feminism is great and still very necessary.

Gender equality is fought for by egalitarians, female supremacy is fought for by feminist. It’s in the name. I’ve talked about my experiences, growing up as a boy in a voluntarily single, man-hating feminist run home elsewhere on this site. From a young age, my mother made sure I knew what my name was supposed to be if I had been properly born a girl that she could indoctrinate into her man hating feminism. She resented feeding my brother, and I, or having to care for us, because it impacted her ability to go out with all her feminist, girlfriends who didn’t have children. She kicked my father out of the family, because one of her feminist, lawyer friends convinced her that she would get more money, divorcing him than staying with him. Screw the kids, screw the future, show her the money, baby! Her Marxist overlords told her that destroying her nuclear family was a good thing, and she did. It ended up blowing up in her face, and the feminist lawyer friend mysteriously vanished. At one point, while she was working to advance her career, she left my brother, and I at a supermarket Café for several hours well she went to work. This went on for over a year during her night shifts as clerk to her board of education. I’ve always suspected that she would not have notified authorities if we weren’t there when she got back. She prevented me from playing sports that she thought were going to make me too aggressive. She pond me off on Boy Scout as a substitute, father figure, but it was far too late to have me normally socialized as a male, and I spent the next decade and change, figuring out what masculinity meant on my own. I wasn’t allowed to date until she lost control of my living arrangements because “all men are rapist pigs”. Leaving aside my childhood, there were several feminist groups protesting places where I was in the military. Now that I work for a heavily feminist dominated employer (a school district), I can’t wait to see how I get punished for being a man next.

Because the extremist gave the movement a bad rep. Anytime I hear about feminism, mostly online, it's about some random woman screaming about mansplaining or how she dislikes men so now most people associate the whole movement with just those people. I'm not really into feminism, I understand the core meaning of it and I do think it had some good points that helped us women get where we are today. It's just some newer generation feminist tend to take things a bit to far, for example: If a woman still prefers to shave cause she just like to do that, another woman shouldn't be saying she's a misogynist or have misogynistic views. I still like to shave from time to time cause i like how my skin feels after doing it.. plus i don't like having a mini stache on my chin and neck. It's those little ridiculous things that are driving a lot of people away from the movement.

When it first started out, it really was about women just having the right to vote, work, own property etc. But now it's turned into this weird creature that barks at men for spreading their legs to wide or attacking women who actually embrace their femininity.

I thought I was a feminist. I went to school for a major that was largely dominated by men. I'm old enough to have experienced unequal pay based on gender and more than my share of sexual harassment in the workplace. I'm also old enough to remember when women were forced to stay in abusive marriages because the alternative was a homeless shelter.

However... I'm also old enough to know that "the movement" is over. Men and women are equal, but not the same. We can never and will never be the same. Today, any woman can do any job a man can do, wages are equal when you compare apples to apples, women have all the same rights as men and even a few privileges that men don't get to enjoy.

I was never a demonstrator or whatever these crazy pink pussy hat wearing, man hating, screaming women are... I was just saddled with proving I could do my job as well as anyone I was up against.

Nope, I do not consider myself a feminist. As far as hating feminism goes, I do see today's version of feminism as harmful to both men and women alike. I guess that's equality, right?

it's hard for feminism to claim to support gender equality when a lot of stats and data point to men struggling more than women whether it's in domestic violence, divorce, child custody battles, paternity fraud, homelessness, suicides, affirmative action, dying at the workplace, dying from prostate cancer (which doesn't receive the same funding as breast cancer), being told how to act etc and whenever these issues arise, they get shut down immediately and push.

feminists claims to be pro-women however if you peel back the layers, the observations show that they are only pro-women when it comes to certain choices. housewives and women in age gap relationships cop the most abuse from these feminists because of a choice they do not approve of. they do however approve of women's bad choices i. e. drugs, alcohol, promiscuity, abortions, baby trapping, doing porn, cheating, turning kids against the father etc. while disapproving of anything positive for men i. e. keeping dads in the home, chivalry, teaching healthy masculinity, getting men off porn etc.

feminism only thrives because it preys on the innate primal fear that women naturally have in life i. e. the dangerous creepy man, getting pregnant, lack of leadership or control etc. some of these issues are understandable but overexaggerated to the point that semblance of logical thought is pushed back and you're either a sexist, misogynist, bigot, incel or a sellout, pick me girl, "fake" woman etc. it's things like this that make it very hard for feminism to gain any support from the public. fearmongering campaigns and tactics are all they really have.

Well, the movement has many opponents; it's hardly fair to assume it's all for one reason. But many of us oppose it because we're for gender equality, not because we're against it; Feminism isn't about equality and never was. It claims to be, but words are just words, and for all the distaste you hear about "modern" Feminism (have you heard of the "Men Kampf" affair?), there's nothing in the modern movement that wasn't present at Seneca Falls.

Consider Erin Pizzey. At your age, you probably haven't heard of her, and after you read this, I'd like you to ask yourself why. She was an avowed feminist, and back in 1971, she opened up the world's first battered women's shelter. At the time, she received heaps of praise, from feminists and non-feminists alike, and rightly so. But after running the place for a while, she crossed two VERY serious lines: first, she learned that a LOT of these women weren't the perfect angels they were often depicted as- many of them had mental and social issues, and the relationships had serious issues BEFORE the violence broke out; any long-term solution would mean these women needed some kind of psychological help. Secondly, she learned that domestic abuse isn't a one-way street, and that abused men should have options, too. She spoke of these things openly, and brought the wrath of the movement down upon her. The threats didn't dissuade her (she was used to threats by then), but the actual violence DID- it drove her out of the country, and she renounced the movement in disgust. To this day, she's fiercely anti-feminist; would you call HER "against gender equality"?

The simple if unappealing truth is that women haven't (with a few scattered exceptions) been "oppressed", they have been protected. To be protected is to be restricted (which is why you rarely see people break dancing in plate armor), and you will doubtless say that many of those restrictions were, and are, excessive, and I would agree completely. But it isn't, and has never been, malicious- it was intended to protect women from the dangers men have to face as a matter of course. This is why it's illegal to mutilate the genitals of a baby- unless it's a boy. It's why slavery is illegal- unless it's the government forcing a man to go to war. It's why, when the UN discovers that 11% of journalists murdered in the course of their duties, the campaign they declare to oppose it is "Stop Killing Women". A good faith renegotiation of the social contract would be one thing, but that's not what's happening here.

Feminism isn't about equality, as it claims; it's about female issues and concerns. That's not inherently a bad thing; not every movement has to be about every person- were the movement simply honest about that, people would be far more tolerant. Or, rather, they would if that was what the movement actually WAS. Telling boys and men they're inherently "oppressors", struck with the Original Sin of a Y chromosome, is bad enough, but what does it tell girls and women? It doesn't speak of their capabilities and potential; it tells them that to be a woman is to be a victim, that they have a hatred of women that's externally induced but completely internalized, and that the only cure is feminism. NOTHING is your fault, NOTHING is your responsibility, you have NO power to alter the world or improve your life, except what WE give to you.

Ultimately, the purpose and goal of the Feminist movement is the expansion and perpetuation of the Feminist movement. It's an ideological parasite that survives only by sowing distrust and hatred. Why wouldn't people oppose it?

Honestly, I can write a whole mytake about this, but I'm going to split this into 2 parts:

A) My own life experience

B) Ny observations

Exhibit A: I come from a strict household, so growing up my parents were traditional. Most of what I learned about traditional ironically came from my mother, so she was the woman who told me to avoid modern women/the promiscuous lifestyle/alcohol and parties. My dad taught me the importance of strength, resilience and stoicism, and everything I believe when it comes to masculinity is from him. I have a good relationship with both of my parents, and everything is going great.

My earliest experience with feminists comes back when I was in middle school. I remember we had to pick topics to present for English class, and one of my classmates suggested that women's rights was a topic that should be added to the list. At the time, I thought it was admirable and we gave her a standing ovation for it. She was a brilliant student, but what she made up for academically she lacked in principles. She was very mean to me and a lot of people, so I shrugged it off as her personality and didn't associate it with her being a feminist.

All of that did change the day I got in an argument with one of her friends. We had a free class with no substitute teacher, so I was talking to my friends about a random topic, and without any warning her friend starts yelling profanities at me (now that I look back I think she might have had some mental health issues, because that totally took me by surprise). I reacted like any person would in that moment, and I yelled back at her telling her that she should show some respect, and then her friend (the feminist) starts cursing at me saying "how dare you?" and "it's her right to yell at you". When she told me that it's her friends right to disrespect me that way, I lost all respect for her and her movement.

That wasn't the last time I encountered crazy feminists in my life, it continued after. However, I knew what to expect. I would say that that story was the turning point.

Exhibit B: Now you know a bit about my background, it makes it easier to understand where I come from. Of course nobody is 100% unbiased, but I wanted to do my research. I learned that the family court system is messed up, the divorce rate is high and single motherhood rate is going up.

I learned that wage gap was a lie (it's based on career choices, since it's illegal to pay someone less for the same job) and that feminists want equality of rights and not responsibilities. I learned that more than two thirds of all work-related deaths are men, 77% of those who commit suicide are men, men spend 60% more time in jail for the same crime and that most victims of violent attacks/robberies are men.

Modern feminists have spent so much time villanizing men that they could've done creating infrastructure for women. They could've taken all of that energy and invested it into getting women to do the crazy dangerous jobs that men do that make us able to run society, so they can contribute equally. They could put all of that energy towards building roads, factories, homes, extracting raw materials, driving trucks, becoming electricians or simply fixing toilets. What they don't know, is that these jobs that they think are "beneath them" a man who wants to feed his family would GLADLY do them, you know why? Because beggars can't be chosers, and nobody is going to help us if we don't help ourselves.

Men don't go to work everyday and break their back so that they can oppress women, we do what we do out of love and protection for the women who are around us, and those who aren't grateful give a bad rep to the rest. Whether you want to say that this isn't all feminists or not, that's not the point now because the damage has been done. If you want the feminist movement to be a civil rights movement over a hate-filled movement, then you're gonna have to start holding them accountable yourself, rather than assuming that everyone who criticizing them is saying so in bad faith. I have no reason to be hateful to anyone, but you can read my answer and make your judgment.

Honestly speaking as a feminist myself, it is a bunch of issues:

1. Media. It often depicts a biased, sensationalized and inaccurate image of feminism which makes many people misunderstand what it is.

2. The inflammatory people always get the biggest platforms. If a feminist is simply speaking of women empowerment and she is doing seminars and doing fundraisers for victims of FGM in Africa, is she going to make it to the news with big headlines? No. It's the women who bare their chests on the streets or stand in front of the white house cursing patriarchy that get all the cameras towards them. This is why disruptive protests aren't always bad they are actually really good to bring attention to something that people otherwise wouldn't care about.

3. White feminism, or feminism from any privileged groups. This type of feminism mainly comes from women of privileged groups and they are very discriminatory towards underprivileged women.

But the biggest reason of all is, as much as you hate to hear this answer,

4. We still live in a patriarchal society and true equality is still extremely rare. Feminism was never welcomed with open arms and always faced pushback. Claims like 'children are getting spoiled' 'where are all the good women/men's 'this new technology/invention is ruining society' 'men have become soft' are not unique to our generation, our ancestors went to the grave saying them, we are doing the same and our descendants will follow our footsteps.

Have we come a long way from the previous generations? Yes. Do we still have a long way to go? Also yes.

Looking back at not so distant history, women's equality was a long time coming. When I became aware of the women's lib movement in high school, I was fully supportive. I still am.

Women and men should have equal rights and opportunities. Women should be safe from sexual harassment.

The words in the Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness", as well as all rights under the constitution and bill of rights should apply to everyone.

But, like all movements, women's lib eventually went off the rails when radical feminists got into the act.

It seems like radical feminist harbor resentment and bitterness toward men. They don't just want equality, they want special status. They are bigoted bullies.

I doubt if there are many women who aren't happy about the equality brought about by the women's liberation movement. The women who ARE happy aren't man haters by a long shot. Very few subscribe to modern feminism.

a lot of it comes down to understanding what "feminism" is, and the semantics associated with that word. I always describe myself as "I'm feminist in the traditional sense in that I value equal rights and opportunities, but I despise modern feminism (neo-feminism) due to its shallow, incoherent, hateful, and radical view of things".

Like other neo-progressive ideas such as 8mth abortions, open border policy, BLM and racial double standards, child transgenderism, neo-feminism is a deliberate Marxist agenda to destroy ideas that produce strong & healthy individuals (e. g. the nuclear family) because such empowered individuals are political competition to Big Govt & corporate interests.

Examples of radicalism:

1. Neo-feminists value showing as much flesh as possible and call it "empowering", yet classic feminists oppose this because they prefer women to seek empowerment via education and their minds... instead of being shallow skanks.

2. Neo-feminists often believe it is their right to not take a man's surname upon marriage... yet if a man refuses to take her surname "it must be because he's a misogynist pig". Big double standard!

3. Neo-feminists literally spit at the leaders of men's health & wellbeing groups. Why? Do they hate the idea of healthy men?

Given classic feminism achieved its goals to a fair extent, in a rational society we would move on from it instead of evolving it into a toxic form for the purpose of Marxism.

I don't like to read about or talk about politics but answering this as more about philosophies, please nobody get mad at me. But to answer the question, in my ideal world people can live how they want to live, for example if a woman wants to be an engineer or a soldier she can be, if a woman wants to work 60 hours a week climing a corporate ladder she can, BUT, nobody tries to make you do things you don't want to do and there isn't pressure to have 50 percent of engineers and 50 percent of soldiers be women, there isn't pressure to have all incomes be exactly equal and so forth. So in other words, if more guys want to be engineers I would expect most engineers to be guys, if more guys want to be soldiers, I would expect most soldiers to be guys, if more guys are willing to work long hours and have a drive to make a lot of money, I would expect guys to have higher average incomes. I think each person is unique but I also think that overall men and women are different and I think all of those differences should be respected both individually and at a group level. I consider what I am saying to be feminist but I do not think most big time feminists would agree so, that is kind of where I am.

Even when it was altruistic, feminism was built on lies and hypocrisy. You’ll read and hear people say feminism is about equality. It’s not. It never was. Feminism was meant to promote equal rights and privileges for women. But that’s not equality, is it? Life isn’t just the good stuff. There’s bad stuff too, and any person with even a little bit of life experience can confirm that you must take the bad with the good. However, feminism has never insisted that women carry the same responsibilities and sacrifices as men. There have been a multitude of opportunities to do so from the very beginning, but they never have. If you ask any feminist why that is they’ll blather on with excuses and nonsense rather than just admit that the idea was never about equality. Most people don’t like being lied to. So most people who have come to recognize the lies and hypocrisy will likely be against the movement in general.
To be fair, there are some brilliant people out there who still identify as feminists who demonstrate a broader and fairer understanding of equality. Christina Hoff Sommers, Camille Paglia, Cassie Jaye, and even Laci Green was showing some meaningful growth when she got canceled by her own for exactly that. Unfortunately, these are not prominent feminists. In fact, most modern feminists either don’t know who these people are or they disavow them entirely. The movement is more recently characterized by man-hating extremists and even when it was altruistic, it was built on lies and hypocrisy. What’s to like about that? Ell oh ell!

But about your comment about feminism being about “gender equality”. So if that were really true than you would see the following:

Because it’s turned into a competition between men and women, there isn’t much respect for one another anymore… feminists have made it more about outdoing men than about there being equal opportunity, which isn’t even an issue anymore.

As a heads up strictly my opinion.

I think after the first and second wave in the feminist ideology during more of the third and forth wave a lot more of the extreme elements of the moment started to become more vocal overtime that and the combination of social media on the internet has of course boosted the extreme base which has gotten a lot more forward and centre vocal about their anti man views to a degree to become the internet “face” of the movement in its current direction.

Also in the American academic circles ( as an outsider viewpoint I have) it seems to possible have these same feminist ideas drilled into people at universities and other educational institutes.

In the uk we also have it here along with both government based advertising and the Hollywood media portrayal of men either super evil or bumbling idiots without super strong women.

That being said it’s not that all feminists are out to get men but I think the pendulum has ironically swung the other way so to speak.

As to extend an olive branch about this I can definitely see women’s point of view to a degree and empathise but that being said I think both men and women have an issue here as a collective and we need to both meet on the middle to advice a good balance overall with difficult issues.

Feminism has never been about equality, it has always been about women's rights, which is a huge difference that too many people don't make. A glaring example of that is the right to vote : back in the day, men were given this right on the condition that they enlisted in military service and could be drafted any time. Women got that right for free, which is pretty far from equality, don't you think?

Furthermore, many topics like contraception or abortion have nothing to do with equality, but everything to do with women's rights.

Add to that the fact that many modern feminists tend to be obnoxious or even toxic, all while having a discourse full of double standards or contradictions, complaining about issues that are frankly minor for the most part compared to worse issues that affect everyone, their ideologies being sprinkled in so many forms of medias despite most people not wanting to hear about politics in their entertainment...

The term "feminism" isn't terribly helpful because it can mean very different things to very different people. Historically it was about giving women equal access in terms of things like the right to vote and the right to work. In the developed world, that's been 100% accomplished. Those are still issues in backwards countries, but not in Europe and the US.

Because pretty much everyone agrees with the initial goals of feminism, AND because those goals have been achieved, the modern movement has morphed into something else to continue to have a purpose. That's become an increasingly extreme set of positions which most people do NOT agree with. If I were to try to describe whatever the current "wave" of feminism stands for it would be something like "Marxist ideals pertaining not just to economic distribution (we should all have the same amount of stuff regardless of effort, talent or achievement) but to pretty much EVERYTHING." Hence some of the more extreme and idiotic positions such as "body positivity."

So in short, so many people hate modern feminism because it tends to be an extreme set of views outside the mainstream. In other words, their hatred is well-deserved.

I think people hate it because it made relationships difficult. Now because we all work, we don’t have time for anything else that makes relationships valuable. Women don’t have time to learn how to cook anymore and we don’t have as much time to clean. Either guy´s lead or women do. It´s not going to be both of them at the same time.
The other reason is that there will always be women that say they are in a disadvantage towards guys and therefore need to be acknowledged more and need to be supported more and that guys should check their privileges in general since being a guy = is the same being privileged.

I think a lot of people do not like modern feminism because of the way some feminists are trying to prove senseless points such as them wanting to be shirtless in public, and also because some feminists are not open-minded enough to realise that women are not the only group of people with gender-specific or -related issues. When they joined the organisation they insisted that they were equal to men in every respect – so I let them get on with it, shifting rocks, carrying 7ft straining posts, rolls of fencing wire, straining said wire, usually it took them less than 6 weeks to realise that they were not equal to men in every respect, they had their strengths/weaknesses as do men.
