As you know there are many sensitive topics being brought up in society today. Important issues are being addressed, but I'm curious to know how you feel about the way they are being addressed?

Well, it’s kind of tough to discuss at this point because the whole “woke” thing has been so badly mischaracterized to be sinister by the right wing that it’s so far from its original meaning that no one is talking about the same thing. It’s been bastardized into a negative buzzword.

The true meaning is to first and foremost just BE AWARE that prejudice and discrimination are a real thing, and that they happen largely in very subtle ways that are unprovable, and that people even unconsciously are acting in ways that result in a more negative life experience and outcome for certain demographics. If nothing else, it’s just asking people to have a better understanding of that and have some sympathy for various groups, you don’t even have to do anything, really. Maybe just be a little more careful about how you interact with people.

It gets turned into a culture war issue because politicians see the normal resistance one might have to a new idea that challenges their previous beliefs and makes them have to reassess their own thoughts and actions in a critical way. Like so much feels like an irrational reaction of “stop making me try to feel guilty!”

A sort of parallel guilt issue is the mask wearing thing for Covid, a lot of the same people seem to be in the same camp and the one political party subscribes to the same side of both issues of “wokeness”and Covid restrictions/mandates. By now, masks aren’t mandated most places. Yet I still hear anti-maskers disparaging people who wear masks, but they shouldn’t care what anyone else is doing if they aren’t forced to. Yet they do, and I think it’s at least in some part to on some level knowing that you’re the dick in the situation. The real reason you don’t want to wear it is likely related to discomfort, inconvenience, or stubbornness/contrarianism. Even if you don’t believe Covid is anything more than a regular cold or flu, you still know that you’re saying “I’m going to do what I want because I don’t care if I transmit a regular cold or flu to another person.” But our psyches don’t allow ourselves to feel that feeling, and we generate some artificial reason and position to take about why we can’t or shouldn’t do something. So in this case it’s made to be an issue of “freedom” or a hardo mentality of “I ain’t scared of no virus!”, or folks come up with pseudoscientific arguments against it in an attempt to intellectualize their hidden selfishness.

So, similarly, with this idea of awareness of social issues of race or whatever demographic category is in question, people just get defensive, like immediately. I try to have calm conversations with people sometimes and they’ll just immediately freak out without me freaking out first, I just maybe suggest that maybe they might do something they’re unaware of, or hold an ignorant viewpoint on something. It’s not even saying they’re bad people, it’s pointing out something in their blind spot.

But some people can’t hear that they aren’t the hero or that their beloved and trusted institutions aren’t as just or benevolent as they believed them to be, they just can’t handle having their idols smashed. And we’re back to the psyche struggling to quickly assuage itself in whatever manner necessary. I have to try to remember to not get so frustrated with people because it’s not even conscious for so many of these people. But it is frustrating that people can’t shut the fuck up, LISTEN, and…*gasp*…maybe put more weight on the thoughts of someone who is firsthand affected than you put on your own thoughts as a spectator from the sideline. It’s like someone comes to you with tears in their eyes to tell you their experience, and some folks are just like “Nahhhhh, that’s not your experience.” But you’d flip your shit if someone tried to tell the same to you, bet that.

Personally, I think it’s of the utmost importance, especially somewhere diverse like the US, that we do our damned to just get people thinking empathetically and having general care and concern for others, and not look at everything so tribally, or as a zero-sum game. We might as well disband and give this place back to the native tribes and go back to our genetic homelands if we can’t figure this shit out. But it’s unfortunately being weaponized and sold to the right wing public as some targeted “blame game” to people who on some level are just very comfortable with being shitty people. And now anything that calls people out for bullshit it makes people have to feel uncomfortable…. shit, even innocuous shit, I hear people like “bLaCk PeOpLe ArE OnLy 13% oF tHe PoPuLaTiOn, WhY aRe ThEy In 46% oF cOmMeRcIaLs? I kEPt a WrItTeN LoG aNd DiD tHe MaTh!”…. now they just say “rahhhh, it’s ‘woke’ nonsense, rahhhh”

The problem people fail to realize is that they conflate social issue and woke culture as being one in the same, when they're not. Ethnic diversity and having more women in something isn't what "wokeness" is. That is part of what wokeness does, but the difference between being diverse and inclusive and "woke," is that wokeness intentionally and actively DIVIDES people, instead of bringing them together. It is not "inclusive," but EXCLUSIVE.

That is the downside of being woke. It destroys everything it touches.

And the biggest irony is, it's not even diverse where it counts; intellectual diversity. All you end up having is a rainbow of Liberal NPCs who all think the same and have the same mental health issues and pure hatred in their hearts. Who cares if you have one race from every continent in the world and every made-up sexuality and gender if they're all the same Twitter morons who REEEE about Trump every single day? It's also programmed and brainwashed into people by corporate interests and greed, which is about as ironic as you can get.

Wokeness is a regressive, destructive, cult-like ideology that turns good intentions into hatred to attack, bash, hurt, and destroy others. It's an unnatural manufactured movement to destroy society through Communist-Marxist ideology. Wokeness isn't "tolerance, acceptance, and inclusive." It's cowardice, bullying, and harassment. It intentionally hates on men, intentionally hates on white people, intentionally hates on biological women now as of 2022, intentionally hates on heterosexuals, intentionally hates on healthy fit people, and intentionally hates on ANYONE AND EVERYONE not drinking the woke Marxist Kool-Aid. It seeks to destroy, rather than bring togetherness.

A movie like the 2000's Charlie's Angels can be seen as diverse and inclusive, as they have white women, an Asian in Lucy Liu, and a black man in Bernie Mac. A movie like 2019's Charlie's Angels is woke because they spend the whole time sh*tting on men and masculinity in general, while falsely propping up women (yet not femininity) as being infallible and perfect, and the director Elizabeth Banks outright hates men and blamed the movie's failure directly on men not watching it, despite claiming it wasn't for men prior to its opening. Do you see the difference now?

TL;DR:
Wokeness isn't just "diversity and inclusion." It's an actively malicious and destructive ideology based on hate.

The thing i find crazy is people saying hey everyone, why don't we think for a second and see if our words are really rude and insensitive and hurtful. If they are maybe reword them to be less offensive or keep it to yourself.

Well, I find it interesting that you're from Canada. I kind of feel like it would be fairly easy, as a non-PC person, to be castigated, to be shut down and cast out, in Canada. No Canadian women would sleep with me if I expressed a non-PC opinion.

TBH, I also feel some of it is down-right stupid. Take gender identity. You could certainly make the argument that gender extends beyond biological conceptions. Can’t you have an option E? This was not an impartial poll. Option B supposedly disagrees with the woke culture but at the same time says “I believe WOKE culture brings up important issues however is FAILING to fix them”. Option D says “I’m actually offended” but most people are sick and tired of people complaining about being “offended”.

Personally is what I can’t stand about the woke culture:

They mostly operate on emotion and twisted logic. For example when they say something as incredibly asinine as “defund the police” then people will take exactly what you are saying at face value. It’s not open to bullshit interpretation. It’s was a slogan.

So what happens when you demonize police officers? Morale drops, talented recruits become disillusioned, good officers quit, resources become strained, officers become paranoid to take action, etc.

So what happens when police become weak and constrained? Not surprisingly criminals become embolden and crime rates shoot up (including murder).

Who is most vulnerable to surging crime rates? Often inner city impoverished minority neighborhoods. So who ends up getting hurt by criminals? The very minorities wokesters supposedly cared about by yelling BLM and “defund the police”.

Logical people could see that outcome from the day all that woke stupidity started. But if we disagreed with BLM or “defund the police” we are automatically racists right (especially in 2020)?

But it’s usually college educated woke white liberals who cheer on this bullshit to be popular. They don’t have to suffer the consequences of the damage their moron ideas have on society. They live in a bubble. But they ended up doing more harm to the minority community than anyone else.

What is woke culture? It ain't a catchall thing. What do you mean by woke? Do you mean people who try to be awake and aware in the world they live in in the present time, or know what the elites are up to, or do you mean fake woke people, or do you mean people whose opposition is controlled. Explain what you mean exactly. Because I believe in equality for all, and people not to be treated badly and to be accepted for who they are. I have autism and adhd I know the pain that can come from being outcasted and stuff. And people can have identitiy issues if there identity or culture is not respected. I like to expose toxic bad things the elites do and evil agendas they have, for example, corruption in the banks. I like the black community and try to have good relations with them. I wanna help elevate them by giving them the truth and help them figure out alternative creative ways of overcoming obstacles, like the economic thing. I believe in betterment of oppressed people and in equal oppurtinity and stuff. I like to be awake, or woke. Yes I don’t think leftists really do any good. They’re always pushing identity politics such as having affirmative hiring that literally is discriminatory and hiring incompetent people because they are desperate for their quota of how many of one kind of person they can get instead of by qualification when they should be overlooking that.

Giving special treatment to “minorities” giving them priority even if they don’t deserve it and giving them a both victim and entitled mentality. Even if they’re benefiting from discrimination. Woke culture does have very strong points. It’s not entirely up to them to fix it. We as a society need to do better at recognizing mistakes, taking ownership of those mistakes, and doing what we can to fix them.

Everyone who believes woke culture is adding more to the problem because they refuse to even believe there might be a problem to begin with and choose to remain ignorant and refuse to learn something new from another perspective. Though I do disagree with somethings like for example if there was a movement to ban Seinfeld because it has offensive jokes in it. Woke is literally the opposite of what it was when it was first starting to come to play back I don't know 10 years ago. Originally when I had seen it used it was by non political issues or extra political issues just like to really think about society and not just obey. Calling it woke is to minimize what it actually is. Which is destructive long march communist ideology deployed in a modern context.

Many of the people pushing it have been fooled into thinking it's a morality issue, and they get as unreasonable and dangerous as any religious zealot.

I think what's even more fucked up than recognizing there IS social injustice and things in the world that need to be addressed and fixed, is labeling it a) as a culture (it's not even close to that) and b) mocking it as if it's maleficent and c) stigmatizing those who give a shit enough to try and do something about it.

I hear people call others "woke" as if it's a bad thing, when the truth is usually that the accuser is blindly apathetic towards anyone or anything that doesn't directly benefit themselves.

Some things take ages to change because it has to come about from within a person's mind and heart. You can't legislate away ignorance, hatred or prejudice. You can make laws to punish corruption, but greed is the source and that comes from within too. Being aware of these things and attempting to govern without them does NOT add to the problem - stupidity does. Unfortunately as Einstein pointed out, human stupidity is infinite.

“Woke” doesn’t really mean anything anymore I feel like. I basically agree with the first two. I think equality and social justice is good for everyone, and makes lives better.

but some people definitely can turn it into the “oppression olympics” and purity testing stuff. Waiting for people to make mistakes to jump down their throat etc. But you meet those types on Twitter more than you do in real life. And there’s always people who think speaking out against bigotry or fighting for a better world is “woke” so again that kinda lost all its meaning.
Someone who’s a little too sensitive is always better than someone who’s not sensitive at all.

So called "woke culture" is a very different thing from being "woke". In the Black slave era (which is where the term "woke" comes from) it was about slaves being aware of good and bad practices of their White masters and their machinations.

It differs from "woke culture," which is a White media coined term. Used for anything and everything they deem "offensive".
