Almost EVERY TIME I hear someone say that word, they ALWAYS HAVE to follow it with, "with a B', but I NEVER hear anyone say, zillion, million, trillion, quadrillion, etc., and follow that with, "with a Q, M, T, Z" or whatever the word begins with! Do they REALLY think we're that stupid that we can't tell that billion starts with a B?

Hi! My name's Bill! That "Bill", with a B!
Superb Opinion
No. It's usually done to make sure you didn't mishear and think they meant "million". Sometimes, however, I'll say "That's billion, with an 'R'", just to make sure people are paying attention.

It us used for emphasis. A lot of people do not realize that a billion is a thousand millions. A very big number. I have also heard trillion with a T. I think itvwas the result of Bidens spending spree
