Judging a book by its cover is a natural human tendency, isn't it? Yet, we often hear the adage 'don't judge a book by its cover,' which is not universally applicable. Take a moment to look around you. What do you see? You see objects like doors, lights, and AC units, and more. Do you judge these objects based on their appearance? The truth is, most of the time, we do.

However, when it comes to judging human actions, we tend to apply a different standard. We say 'don't judge a person' when it's about negative judgments, but we also pass positive judgments without hesitation. Why don't we employ the same principle? If someone appears to be good, we don't say, 'Don't judge this person as good; maybe they're evil.' But when people judge someone negatively, we remind them not to judge the book by its cover. This inconsistency suggests we may have some issues in understanding the true meaning of 'don't judge a book by its cover.'

In reality, it's perfectly normal to judge based on appearances. For instance, if you see someone drinking alcohol, it's only natural to make that observation. However, how we respond to such judgments is what matters. For example, in Islam, alcohol consumption is considered impermissible (haram). In such cases, we can make judgments but should refrain from harsh or negative reactions. It's better to investigate further, understand the context, and then decide on appropriate actions.

Consider a situation where you call someone, and they don't respond. It's easy to jump to conclusions, assuming they are arrogant or uninterested because they don't answer. But it could be that the person is deaf and genuinely unable to hear you. So, yes, we can make judgments, but it's crucial not to rush to negative conclusions or name-calling. I hope this clarifies the point.

The universe operates on the principle of judging things as they appear. Even in the court of law, this is fundamental human nature to judge.
