What do you think of Ukraine potentially drafting women for the ongoing war?

A major criticism of the Ukrainian side on the onset of the Russo-Ukranian War was that while women and children were free to leave the country, military aged men (18-58) were prevented from doing so. They were drafted into regular units (if relatively young) and territorial army (TA) if on the older side. As a result tens of thousands of men have died in a war they didn't want to fight.

Now as manpower and western support is drying up, the Ukrainians might be drafting women to go fight. Do you think it's fair? - I personally think that it's completely fair that if you have equal rights as a man, you should have equal responsibilities. So it's either neither gender fights or both do.

Well this was done in Ukraine during WW2 & with Britain in WW2. What it will mean is women doing jobs in the military and elsewhere that aren't frontline like ordnance, supply, catering etc. In Britain they drafted women to do everything from farming to factories to manning AA batteries, the Queen of Britain drove trucks during ww2. Being drafted doesn't necessarily mean going to fight in a war, it could mean filling gaps in the labor force left by men going to war, in Britain many draftees were sent to work in coal mines.

If the Ukrainians draft women it will be to free up more men for the front.

A sizable chunk of the Ukrainian female particularly of reproductive age have already left and they are facing severe manpower shortage. I believe that they are going to draft women for combat roles.

Britain during WWII was not alone it had access to millions of men in its colonies. Here Ukraine stands alone.

Britain had access to millions of men during ww2 thanks to its empire but found itself short of manpower inside England because it had drafted all the military age men to fight which emptied the factories, railways, transport lorries, mines, farms etc which is where women came in to the draft even driving supply lorries and ambulances behind the front. Women played a major role in the battle of Britain.
Most military roles aren't even frontline combat but are logistical and most women aren't fit enough for frontline infantry role as the Israeli defence force found out the hard way. In Israel feminist politicians were pushing for female draftees (Israel drafts women too) to be put into frontline infantry combat roles and there was a great out cry not because it was women in frontline roles but because the women weren't physically capable enough due to the weight required for a combat infantry man to carry, they kept getting injured, back injuries and leg injuries.

The Ukraine has always had a high proportion of women in their military including front line. From 2014, more joined and then in 2021 certain trades added to the Ukrainian draft. If a country is fighting for their survival, everyone is able to fight, yes you prevent men leaving as they are the core of the military, but what about those drivers, medics, etc. do you want fit guys tied up in those roles or have women do the same. Get your facts right for a start.

i don't think it's fair... women are not stronger than men... plus i don't believe in war... and you will die in war... i don't want to hear it's fair... because it's not fair... women aren't men... and men won't be women either even if they put on a dress and use their bathrooms... this society has greatly lost it's way... it's gone... Ukraine need trench meat and from perspective of generals women are good bullet catcher and drone targets as men. Honestly with 2 weeks tactical training conscripts aren't really useful for anything, no matter men or women.

It's funny (in a sad way) how governments always think of HOW they can survive without ever asking if they SHOULD. The lives of the young and poor are spent like pocket change to protect the rich and old, who in turn delude the young with songs and statues.

Try hundreds of thousands dead and twice as many wounded and maimed. It doesn't take a lot of dot-connecting to figure out that they're lying about their losses, and the fact conscripting women is being seriously discussed says a lot about that.
