Is anyone tired of the political hypocrisy of "whataboutism"?

When their candidate or party is accused of something, instead of denying it, they say, "Oh yeah, what about..." and point to something the other party did.

"Your candidate did something corrupt."

"Oh yeah, what about?"

"You're candidate lied."

"Oh yeah, what about..."

"You're candidate is clearly in the process of mental decline."

"Oh yeah, what about..."

Yes, it's a sign of hypocrisy. If it's wrong for one party/candidate it's wrong for the other party/candidate

No, it's OK for one party/candidate to do things that the other party/candidate should not do

"What about" is just changing the subject. People do that in a lot of different ways. I avoid those kind of discussions because they tend to wander all over the place. It doesn't matter what you say, because the other person will just go off in another direction. It's a waste of time.

It's simply a fancier method of deflection. The "cure" is usually along the lines of "but we're talking about you/your candidate here, not them" and it shuts them up quick.

hypocrisy only matters when it is aimed at the opponent nobody really cares about hypocrisy. and i feel hypocrits aare no big deal.
but for those who call other people hypocrits... well those turned out to be the worst hypocrits.

I find it's vexing but it's a natural result of partisanship. The truth doesn't matter once you've picked a side.

I think the point of the counter-response is to point out the accuser’s hypocrisy. Not the other way around
