Anonymous(36-45)1 yWhy not? It's not like we don't have surveillance across 99% of the public, so why would we exempt a place where children are forced to be in, and are at constant risk? I don't see the downside. The costs are incredibly small. One lawsuit avoided every 100 years will pay them off.
Teachers sexually and/or physically abuse students literally every day. And they're government employees, so they need full accountability.

Opinion Owner1 yI get the feeling people have ulterior motives that they aren't admitting to when they reject the cameras. I think it's creepy to demand not being in camera. I think privacy is a moot point when everyone is fully dressed and people all have cameras in their pockets. There's something else going on here.
Every store, every restaurant, every kids play place, every daycare, most school busses, every street corner, etc... is being recorded, but people just want this one specific place to be exempt from recording. I don't know. I actually asked this one Reddit a decade ago and got cussed out, so I'm already on your side. Assuming that's the side you were in, and not just curious about people's opinions.
Asker1 yYeah no I support them. I've seen enough bad shit. I just read about three teachers arrested for abusing special Ed kids. Just think how much shit they get away with. It's not so much about recording the kids as it is about recording the teachers. We're on the same page

What constant risk? Where are these statistics about abuse?

Wouldn't there already be cameras in most school properties or grounds nowadays? I remember when I went to high school, of course the school had cameras in hallways, in offices where money may be handled for school fees or book purchases etc

Asker1 yDo you feel surveillance, in general, is creepy, or only if it's in a public school classroom?
Asker1 yWanting to have recordings for security isn't the same thing as personally wanting to record kids, so I think that's an unfair assessment. I think being shocked at the idea of protecting kids is a lot weirder tbh. Bad things happen to kids every day. I just read an article about three teachers arrested for abusing special education kids. Things like this can be avoided by keeping the classrooms recorded. Just like with keeping police and their vehicles recording. It protects the public, children included, from bad actors in the profession.
Asker1 yWhat kind of abuse would you worry about? Does this abuse happen with police cam recordings too? Do police body cams make the public safer?
i think its always been part of the plan, we are monitored by everything, they are trying to push a reg where they all texts go through a filter where certain words, sentences flag up and followed up, if you dont use cash they know everything you're doing, i saw a video today where in a coffee shop the tech was following every staff member and counting how many coffees they had made, in china classrooms I've seen children wearing a headset where their brain activity is monitored by the teacher and flags up if say lost concentration.. the future is bleak... the future is transhumanism its truly an open plan for our race...

@asker
The reason we put cameras on police is because of their authority. More specifically, the power we invested in them to apprehend people, collect evidence and also kill people. Giving them cameras is not a perfect solution by any means but having police fabricate evidence and lie has been an issue in the past so trying something new is a prudent decision.
Teachers does not have these powers and thus does not warrant the same scrutiny under the same argument as those for putting cameras on police officers.
You are trying to compare apples to oranges here.
Asker1 yThat's a good reason to put cameras on police. And the reason we put 90% of employees on camera is to protect the organization and the public they deal with. This is a standard of human civilization. Do you think body cams make the public safer?
Teachers absolutely have the power to hand children. Obviously they aren't involved in law enforcement, so they wouldn't have law enforcement powers. That wouldn't make any sense. I think having the most vulnerable humans in the world being forcibly left in the custody of strangers might warrant some security measures. But that's just me. I guess the countless crimes committed by teachers against students every year are irrelevant to you.
It has nothing to do with a comparison between professions. It's a discussion of the security measures we take to protect vulnerable people, when it comes to government workers. I think you're arguing from a place of bad faith, which makes me think you have an agenda that you aren't being honest about. You avoiding my questions makes that even more clear.
In the end there is absolutely nothing you can say from here on out that will make me think that putting children in harm's way is justified.
Asker1 yPower to harm*

Again, I dont think cameras makes society safer. And again, the reason it makes sense to give them to police is because we give them authority. On the contrary we dont really do the same with teachers. We give the police the legal authority to force compliance where as a student can just tell the teacher to "Fuck off" and legally they can't do anything about it. These two things are not even remotely the same thing.
Asker1 yYou're being dishonest to say that the authority is the reason we give them cameras while already pointing out their authority is a potential danger to people and one of the reasons they should have cameras. And you're obviously lying to say that they don't make society safer.
We give teachers authority AND unlimited access to children. They don't need legally authority to commit crimes against children. That's another completely dishonest post you're making.
These two things are absolutely the same and you're incapable of honesty because you want kids to be more vulnerable to the teachers. And the funny part is you and I both know exactly why.- 1 y
I am not being dishonest. I really do not believe that cameras makes society safer. Whatever small benefit one might derive from mass surveillance I think is completely offset but the new chance that it might be abused by either the government or private individuals. Gaining access to the cameras inside of a school would be high on the list of pedophiles and they are going to find a way.
And no, we do not give teachers authority. We give them a job that has access to a vulnerable group of people AKA kids but we do not give them special powers or authority over those kids. Teachers are still just civilians working at a job. They do not have the legal power to compel obedience or something like that unless you live in a location that still allows for stupid shit like physical punishment.
By comparison you are not ALLOWED to disobey cops. If a cop tells you to do something you have to do so unless it violates your rights and sometimes even if they do. Teachers can't compel you to do jack shit legally speaking. They are not the same.
Asker1 yYou're absolutely being dishonest. And teachers absolutely do have authority over kids. They're legal guardians of the children during school hours and can compel them in various ways. Which is 100% completely besides the point. You won't drag this conversation down into something else. I know this tactic and it won't work on me.
You absolutely do believe that cameras make the public safer and you're just saying it only counts because of cops' authority. Incredibly dishonest point when you're admitting they work. The level of authority of the person being monitored doesn't make a difference regarding the efficacy of the cameras.
In the end, cameras will 100% for sure reduce the crime rates against children. You don't want them for your own reasons. But this conversation has been an eye opener for me. I think I'm going to spend the rest of my life fighting for these and fighting against people like you that want to put children in harm's way over personal ideologies.- 1 y
That is not how it works at all. Teachers has legal responsibility to look after their students but they are NOT their "legal guardian". That is something completely different. They also can't compel them to do anything. If the student does not listen to the teacher and the teacher is not from a state where they allow physical punishment then the teacher is shit out of luck.
And for the 3rd time, I do not believe cameras makes society safer. You can keep saying otherwise but that does not actually change my position. You dont get to decide what I believe in, only I do.
Asker1 yYou're 100% wrong and 100% lying. Nice try though. And, like I said, you won't sidetrack with your lies.
Yes you do. You admitted it with the discussion about body cams. You can continue to lie, but it won't change anything. All you're proving is that you're incapable of honesty, on behalf of pushing your ideology.- 1 y
@asker
Ah! You are that dude!
Still wild that I am not allowed to have my own opinions because you think that they are wrong, hence through your brilliant argument I must be lying because I could not POSSIBLY believe something that is incorrect (by your flawed understanding of the topic).
Asker1 yNo YOU are that dude. Very clear what type of person you are.
You're allowed to say whatever you want, and I'm allowed to point out your dishonesty. You call my understanding flawed, and I call your words lies. See, we both get to have our opinions. But only one of us wants children to be harmed more, and that's you.
Asker1 yI want to prevent teachers from harming kids, and you want the only place in the world for surveillance not to exist to be with teachers being alone with kids. Sounds totally legit ๐
Nice projection with that creepy claim. We both know you're the one that wants kids to be left unprotected with adults. Only someone acting in bad faith wants that. You won't project that shit onto me. I've seen through your bullshit already. You're one of those sadists that pretends to be honorable to cover up your shitty heart.
Asker1 yNo it isn't. You're just projecting. Insisting on adults having privacy with children is super creepy. Your idea promotes more child SA. My idea prevents it. So we know where your heart is at.
Asker1 yNo you aren't. That's just the lie you're using to support more child SA. Nice try. You're not fooling anyone.
- 1 y
Ok you record the bad actors. Now ask: AT WHAT COST?
- 1 y
What "countless crimes"?
In the hands of "strangers?
WHO is 'putting kids in harms way"?
Back up your claims!
Asker1 yThere are unlimited stats and news articles showing what I'm talking about. But you already knew that. You're just triggered because you don't want your access to children to be recorded.
- 1 y
So you're gonna get body cams for all teachers but won't get me dry erase markers? Give me a break
Hey throw in a Glock too since teachers should be armed too... JFC THINK before you post!

Asker1 yWhat if the recordings were not viewable to the general public? Would that change your perspective?
- 1 y
No, that could never be guaranteed. Public schools are funded by taxpayers, which means the recordings can be made accessible to the public. It may take a Freedom of Information (FOIL) request, but there's not much to prevent the recording from becoming public. Plus, some low-paid IT person will have the recordings on the Internet, "protected" by weak (if any) passwords for security.
Asker1 yThanks for clarifying. Are you concerned about the same things with police body cams and other forms of surveillance around the world? Or is it specific to public schools only?
Do you think the cameras would reduce the occurrence of child abuse by teachers or be ineffective?- 1 y
Police have a monopoly on violence making them UNIQUE public actors. Teachers have no such authority.
Asker1 yThey have a unique exposure to children. And commit regular acts of SA and violence against children in their care. That matters to me, but I understand why people like you don't want to be recorded. Just like all those cops that fought body cams.
- 1 y
You're missing the point. Y'all wanna give us cameras and Glocks but not dry erase markers!!!
The whole plan falls apart if one kid in the building opts out. What about the special ed kids? Will there be subtitles for foreign language class? Storage? Security? Collateral evidence of student crimes or infractions? Used For disciplinary reasons against kids? Think this through. The liability insurance alone would bust the school budget.

I don't truly trust anyone in the world with my kids besides family. I loved that the daycares all had surveillance. Even the sports places we take them to have them. I wouldn't want it any other way. Schools are legit the only blind spot with my kids.
Opinion Owner1 y@KingslayerC whatever works for you buddy
- 1 y
Yeah I don't place faith in strangers that I had zero control over being alone with my kids. The government doesn't give me a choice though, so I guess it has to work for me.
- 1 y
@KingslayerC you trust family when the stats say that's the WORST decision you can make? Good luck with that... ๐
Asker1 yFamily is alone with kids more often and we can vet our own family. We don't get a choice when it comes to teachers. And we don't have the option to put body cams on family. And family isn't government employees being paid. You spamming up my post with your panic about being recorded on the job really does exposes you though. I guarantee I know what's on your hard drive.
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 I can make decisions about which family members I trust and don't trust. I don't make decisions about which school official I trust and don't trust. Funny you think trusting people I know well is worse than trusting people I don't know at all. Nice pompous attitude you have there though. Good luck with that... ๐
- 1 y
@DrPepper12 wait are you really a teacher? Hahahaha no way. Your reply makes so much sense now. This is awesome. Why are you so scared of being recorded on the job? Lololol amazing. Like 99% of people are recorded on the job. Every job I've ever had in public was recorded. You think you get to be the exception? Hell naw. You got other shit going on here bro.
- 1 y
Just curious, the taxpayers are gonna get me a Glock & a body cam? I can't even get a ream of paper but your gonna get cams for everyone? The tax payers are gonna love you!

@paledreams the school I was at in England was a he'll hole. Cameras wouldn't have helped. But what would have helped was expelling kids, kids being held responsible for their actions, a zero tolerance attitude to violence and parents being held accountable. One of the most serious incidents was a female teacher getting beat up in the bathroom by a 14 year old boy. She was off for 6 months and when she came back the boy was still at the school
