Do you think it's acceptable to cancel school to watch a football match? Does this happen where you live?
I’m not going to weigh in on the “acceptability” of it or otherwise.
However, i’ve worked in the pharmaceutical industry for years. A lot of equipment that we have to install and maintain is specialty equipment from Europe and Asia. This one time, in band camp, we brought in some equipment from Germany for a shutdown. It just also happened to be during the world cup or some other major league soccer event. The German commissioning team DID NOT work during “football” games. Ell oh ell! They WOULD answer questions during intermissions and short breaks IF you could get the entire question asked AND they could iterate a complete answer in that time. This all during a production shutdown of a specific limited time. No joke. I was absolutely blown away. Conservative US citizens bitch about “union breaks” but have NO idea how the rest of the world works! Ell oh ell!
HAHAHAHA, I did not hear of this.
I think that this should be at the discretion of the school honesty. I don't think students or teachers would mind a day off of school and work (depending on if there is a makeup day or not).
I guess it is like snow days, sick days, and other days where schools can choose what makes the criteria to cancel school or something else like that (late start, early release, delayed release, AMI, canceling events, etc.)
There are also schools that do field trips to sporting events though sometimes. That could be a option too. But again, I think this depends on the school and the wants and needs of the community. What is right for one school might not be for another.
Which is why local schools should have discretion with these kinds of things. Though kids going to neighboring schools might be jealous.
I don't think it has happened here. Maybe it has, I wouldn't know, I don't watch football.
Do I have an issue with it? I'm not sure. It sounds silly and like it would be setting a bad precedent. However, is it the first time Wales qualified for the World Cup?
If it's the first time and it's a big deal - football is super popular in Europe - I get it. It would be weird but I can see how it'd be a fun day.
Oh my goodness seriously. The game goes for about 90 minutes. I don't understand the logic behind needing to take an entire day off school for a game. If students are allowed to take the day off, than workers should also be allowed to take the day off work.

I voted A because it was the best of all the choices. My answer is still yes for an event like this. Doesn't happen that often. But it shouldn't be off, for example, for something like the U. S. Super Bowl or just a "regular" game. That said, my kids have too many days off from school whose purpose only extends the school year -- I'd rather compress the year with fewer days off and have a longer summer vacation/holiday.
Makes sense. Many kids will stay home anyway to watch Wales in the World Cup. This is a big thing for Wales... to qualify for the World Cup. Let the kiddies enjoy it.
It would be interesting to see how many magically caught covid that day
In 1967 the teachers at my school were allowed to turn on the classroom TVs so everyone could watch a day game of the MLB World Series, which my home team went on to win that year.
Morning lessons took place as usual before the game started.
I remember that as being one of the best days of my life.
I'd be for allowing a situation like that to occur.
Completely cancelling classes seems to be a bit over the top to me.
I don't get time off to watch the F1 so why should anyone schools or workers get time off to watch people kick a bag of air round!
Heck if your education system is preforming as bad as it is in the US that needs to be a hard no.
There are talks about canceling work and school each year here for the home opener in baseball. A lot of people already don't show up on those days, so it wouldn't be a huge deal, but it hasn't been done yet.
Those are some unimaginative teachers. Why can't they just turn it into a lesson in Newtonian physics?
Maybe a special occasion like Super Bowl or Football 🏈 in Munich
I think I am right to say that you don't need a tv licence to watch things like the world cup because it is considered to be of cultural significance so the premise isn't a new / unique one.
No, doing this gives kids the message that school is really not important.
Bruh. Maybe I should move from Manchester to Wales. 😅🤣
That's absurd. It would never happen here in the USA
No, I disagree completely.
hell no
Sounds good
