In what ways has social media changed over time in the last 10-20 years?

With the onset of COVID-19 I literally deleted my social media platforms and focused mainly on my own well being and when it came to watching the news the only thing that was relevant to me was just the weather and traffic. I personally didn't want to be involved in overkill as a distraction to move forward. Just saying
Social medias has superglued the youth of tve world to their devices.
This video summens it all up.

It seems to cover way too much making it look like the world is going crazy when it is probably always been this bad and never heard much
Did more harm than good. Fake news travels 10 times faster than any other platform, they post what happened but not the whole story as to why they got to that point. People are more suicidal and depressed than ever before. There's more hatred and violence. No guns is not the problem because people are choosing one to kill because they can choose to kill with any object. So really social media is doing more harm than good. On the positive side it's good for marketing
It's made dating SOOOO MUCH WORSE than before dating apps or social networking sites/apps. SOOO many options that aren't EVEN REAL!!. Temptations have increased significantly which A LOT turn out to be fakes or "catfishers". Just wished dating could be as easy as it sounds like it was by back in the day. Back in the late 90s or early 2000s.
It’s a cancer. Affecting the development of our youth
It basically came into being in that time. In 2000 what was there, MySpace? And that was new.
@MysteriousDarkness OK, so there was even less than that. Probably a couple primitive dating sites.
I don’t know if phone sex is appropriate anymore.
Why’s that?
Oh sorry, I thought this was my new post. Someone just commented on it
