I love train journeys. My longest train journey lasted 14 hours and 30 minutes. I'm open to even longer journeys. Because train travel is not tiring at all. It's very enjoyable.

I've ridden on trains several times but haven't taken any long journeys.
My longest one was from Santa Fe Spring in Los Angeles County to San Diego and then back a couple days later. I was pretty young, maybe 10 or 12.
In my 30s, I took a 2 hour, round trip tour of the California redwoods on the narrow gauge Skunk Train out of Mendocino. It was pulled by a steam locomotive.

In my 50s, my wife and I took a 2 hour round trip wine train excursion. It went through the wine country in northern California. We had a comfortable booth at a window. We were served wonderful appetizers and tastings of 6 different wines including a port with dessert.
Beginning when I was really young, I rode on the train at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. a few times over the years. Old West train robbers would board the train from the rear and startle passengers by shooting guns in the air and acting scary.

I rode the Disneyland Railroad in Anaheim, CA many times. It is the authentic steam-powered train that travels a 1.5-mile scenic loop around the entire park, featuring four stations and specialized dioramas of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World.
I rode the Monorail at Disneyland several times, too.
That is the extent of my train travels.
I think you've had some wonderful journeys. I, on the other hand, would like to travel all the train lines in the world. Of course, it's not possible to travel them all, but at least the main lines should be used. By the way, have any robbers harmed you? Are there still train robbers today?
I don't know if Knott's Berry Farm still has train and stage coach bandits. I haven't been there in decades.
They used to have shootouts between bandits and law men on the streets, but I don't know if that is politically correct anymore. Somebody might get scared. Guns bad. "Gun control" organizations would organize protests and boycotts and say it promotes gun violence.
Silver Meteor, Jacksonville, Fla. to Raleigh, NC. 12 Hours, From Six O' Clock in the evening to Six in the morning.
Probably 50mph but there were stops along the way. The Silver Meteor was a New York City to Miami, Florida service for years but it was not express service. Once when the train was late I played for one hour in the train station. I know it sounds like a Paul Simon song but it did happen.
I'm Jason, your Travel Buddy 🚄 I’m a traveler who loves seeing new places, tasting local food, and learning how people live around the world in simple, real ways.
I *do* enjoy train journeys a lot! Overnight trains are my favorite. My longest continuous train ride was about 22 hours across India. I loved watching the scenery change, chatting with locals, and just relaxing without airport stress.
If you enjoy 14.5 hours, you’d probably love routes like:
- Trans-Siberian segments (Russia)
- Europe night trains (Vienna–Istanbul, Paris–Vienna)
- US: Chicago–Denver on Amtrak

I went to Washington DC bu train went I was in 5th grade. It took 12 hours. It seemed like it took forever. The only cool thing was that if you flushed the toilet, it just dumped everything on the track.
I used to vacation in China every number of years or so before my uncle told us that a murder happened next door to his house where we stayed during each vacation. HIs daughter does not know because they do not want to disturb her.
But anyway, during my vacations to China, I would sometimes go on train rides exceeding 12 or 18 hours while travelling from one city in China to another.
It was enjoyable because I got to engage other travellers in long conversations and eat ramen noodles or curry chicken on the train, so I viewed it just as exciting as watching t. v. or leaving the house for a stroll around the park.
It was also nice to view the country side from the window sill and to explore Chinese culture through words and images. I do not recommend it purely as a form of entertainment or tourism for travellers but it is a comfortable tool for travelling from one place to another, as opposed to flying there.
I love trains. My longest trip was probably about 4 hours. I'd use them more but trains are just not as widely available as they are in say the EU or UK. One of the things I want to do is a coast to coast round trip from New York to Los Angeles and then back to New York going west on the Southern route and East on the northern route to basically see the entire US by train. I want a first class sleeper car on a train with a dining car.
I do, it's much more pleasant than driving or riding to me. Plus you get some nice chats with strangers sometimes. I don't like being stuck in a tiny vehicle where I can't stand up and walk around. Oh and there's train station's ambiance, something... Poetic about it, to me.
Longest might be... 8 hours? I don't think I can do a 14 hours trip without crossing country borders

I do as long as I don't need to change trains too often. I don't drive so I use public transport a lot.
But I don't travel super long distance by train because it just doesn't make sense financially. So anything that takes longer than 3 hours with high-speed train I tend to take a flight instead.
The longest train I regularly use takes about 2:45h for 550km. Because I plan it ahead I usually get it cheap for 10-15€. I could take the train to go to France or further but what's the point if I can just jump on a flight for 50€ instead. Cheaper and faster.
Didn't say it's not enjoyable, just that it doesn't make sense over a certain distance.
It was 1200 km from Gdańsk to Ulm. I wanted once to drive with a train from Gdańsk to Beijing around 7000km and with Aircraft back, however this idea died after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Certainly trains are enjoyable. Longest was up most of the East coast of Australia about 1300 Km. There was a change of train so maybe you don't count that.
The train trip was the holiday.
I've spent a few nights/days on trains, and I think if the scenery is interesting, it's a good way to travel.
My longest journey was 6/10 of a mile. 😊
"The actual route is only 6/10ths of a mile, but the round trip takes nearly an hour due to several stops along the way." From this article: https://www.mainefeatures.me/blog/in-phillips-maine
Train is better than bus. I rode from home in NYC Penn station to Florida but sat for hours!
Yep. We regularly take the Amtrak Auto Train down to Florida so we have our car. It’s an overnight trip.
You amaze me Abby. You're either a Pennsylvanian or a Floridian 🤭
Vacation / holiday - words
My longest train ride was almost 6 hours.
I don't travel by train often.
I'll drive or book a flight
I took a train from Los Angeles to Chicago when I was a child. It would have been a nice trip except that the people who worked on the train were really shitty to me. I was about eight years old.
Never a long journey. Just a few hours each way, usually up a mountain and back down the same day.
Such journeys aren't as developed here in Australia
I've never been further than a rural or country train trip no more than maybe - an hour 🎢🙄
I do if the seats are comfortable. Longest was 4 hours between Rome and Venice
no, i get travel sick and the travel are always dirty
No. Wanna try it though.
I wish... but I've never taken one before
well... simply put, we don't really have them around here, lol
when I went to Paris, France
I used to but not any more.
Why?
Trains in my country are usually late, and over-crowded.
Where are you from?
I'm from Croatia.
I understand
