What are your thoughts on the Indi Gregory situation?

An eight-month-old girl in the UK named Indi Gregory has had her life-support removed by court order. The Italian government granted her citizenship so that her parents could take her to Italy in order to receive treatment, but the British government still won't allow it. Indi's parents aren't even being allowed to take her home from the hospital.

The judge's argument is that it's "in the child's best interest" and that she's not aware of her surroundings anyway.

What are your thoughts?

You can keep a person "technically" alive indefinitely as a vegetable on life support, but if there's no sign that after months they will recover to a normal state, is that really living?

I think people are overly concerned with death of non-viable life, over the millions of abortions every year. Lives lost due to poor decisions, medical industry, and the governments that enable it.

It sounds like the government doesn't want anyone to question their orders, no matter how many lives it takes. It's corrupt self-interest at its best.

You can't keep someone on life support former when there's no chance of recovery. You'd just end up blocking beds and tieing up hospital resources.

They're not even letting them take her home though. And what of the Italian government, and the Vatican? They've both said they'll take her and try to treat her. Why won't the British government let them?

She's just died. It's an untreatable disease and the treatment she had was causing pain.

A true tragedy. But then I'd have to ask if suffering is the worst thing that can happen to someone. And again, should it not have been her parents' right to make the final decision and then to take her home?

What's worse than suffering a painful death? A child isn't property, I don't think parents should be allowed to inflict suffering because it's in their religious ideology when there's going to be no happy ending.

And parents valuing the life of their child and wanting to take them somewhere for treatment isn't a religious claim and to my knowledge hasn't been discussed in the case or in the articles I linked, so I don't know where you're going with that. Also for the record, one of the articles said was "experimental", which would imply it was worth trying at least, as it would also have served as an opportunity to observe how it works and see if it could be applied to other patients.
