I heard that florida is behind the curve on their education in the public schools in FLORIDA verses NEW YORK STATES REQUIREMENTS! Hmmmmm... Has anybody heard this? Is it because Florida is bigger than NYS? Does florida have a lack of teachers? Please post your thoughts, thanks!
My cousin lives in florida, I went to visit her and shew as going on about how their school systems suck. She says its very relaxed and not really hard. She said it was lame. She used to live in North Carlina so she saw a big difference.
I have no idea why but some public school systems get more money and have higher expectations for their students. There is even disparities within school districts. That's really messed up because we are all American citizens and deserve an equal opportunity for standard education.
I used to go to school in New Mexico and when I say behind the curve, at my school I found out we were doing work out of 4th grade workbooks and 10 year old books. And no, I was not in any remedial classes, this was regular classes in 7th grade. I had to move to Georgia in the middle of the year and they were doing algebra and when I got there it was a huge transition because one level was so much more advanced than what we were doing.
Well, I was a Math Education major, at my University, the requirements to teach High School math you have a very rigorous field of study. As of right now, I know that if I was to stay as a education major I would have to take all but 2 classes of what a Math Major would take to get my degree. In Florida, the requirements to get a degree in Math Education is as easy as getting a major in the education field but only having to take Calculus 1 to teach High School. To be honest its cool, but not for the students who are trying to learn. I took Calc 1 my freshman year, and I didn't even have to I tested into a Higher one, so basically you can be mathematically incompetent and still teach 7-12 math in FL. I am doing and exchange in Florida right now, and most of the University students end up failing College Algebra and have to retake it once maybe twice to pass. So there is definitely a flaw in the Math portion of the education system
Wow.... how can we correct this? contact "JEB BUSH?" - A month ago

Well, I know right now they are doing evaluations on the Education Majors at some Universities to make sure they are up to par. So hopefully that will help. - A month ago
i moved to florida early in 8th grade from new york and I didn't have to do any work for a year and a half. That's how far behind they were compared to ny. The florida school system sucks ass and I'm trying to move out of here because I don't want to raise kids here.
