eat all the fats you like. Bacon and eggs for breakfast, big steak for supper, but no carbs. Limit your carb intake to 20 per day. you can figure to loose about a pound a day. the catch is, after you loose the weight and start to again eat a balanced diet, you have to be very careful to not over eat. Actually keeping carbs low is always good. I lost 60 pounds in 2 months.
There is a diet like that but very few people can hold it off cause you think your eating the right way but your actually eating everything all at once! But she's not getting any nutritions with this or any greens whatsoever for that matter! - 7 months ago
Question Asker
I have brocoli with my dinner I just didn't think it would count and I'm a vegetarian its not a diet or anything I've always been one - 7 months ago
Okay. food and nutrient deprivation do not work. from what it looks like, you are going to be hungry throughout the day. instead of eating 3 meals a day, try to eat 5 smaller meals a day. Eating less, but more often has been shown to increase the metabolism.
make sure to consume the amount of calories you need to function normally. Do NOT deprive yourself. It only leads to yo-yo effect. Drink adequate amounts of water.
now if its weight you are trying to lose, you need to have about 500 calories a day in a deficit in order to lose a pound a week. Which isn't much really, just eat a little less each meal.
If you are one of those people who avoid carbohydrates at all cost, try eating them. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body. They are the most direct and become fuel very quickly. Try eating complex carbohydrates instead, (oatmeal, whole grain bread, potatoes)
with proper exercise, you can lose a pound a week (or even more)!
if at first exercise is hard, take it easy. You have to train for it to work.
Hard work and dedication are the only things that can help.
That, and the fact that you're only 17. If you want to disagree with me, fine. Just come at me with some evidence that's a little more concrete. - 7 months ago
No, awful. What's going to end up happening is you're going to induce the onset of a catabolic state. Your body is going to consume muscle mass before fat.
I actually wrote a pretty decently sized answer but it didn't end up f***ing posting. I'll give you the gist of it.
I agree with Gia65 with respect to nutrition, you want to be eating 6 meals a day in smaller portions. However, I don't agree with Gia65 with respect to fitness.
Cardio is a stupid bullshit term that suggests that steady-state activities such as running, biking, or using the stairmaster and elliptical provide a cardiovascular benefit. Although this is true, it's such a slight improvement that it's not worth the time or effort. Your body's ability to use oxygen is a genetic trait and you can't improve it. What you are doing however is becoming more efficient at the exercise by getting better at it. Taking perfect sized strides, or using the perfect stepping motion, and in fact are exerting less energy per movement which is why it feels like it gets easier.
The best way to get rid of fat is to put on muscle. This might sound counterproductive, but think about it this way. With respect to the female body, 1 lb of addtional muscle requires 75 - 100 calories a day just to sustain it. Also, the larger a muscle is, the more energy it requires to move, so the larger your muscle the more calories you're going to burn per movement.
How do you build muscle? High intensity interval training where you stress your body for a short amount of time with rest intervals in between. In the health and fitness community it is agreed upon that the best method for this is strenght training. Strength training entails putting enough resistance against your muscles so that you can only complete 10 to 15 continuous reps of the exercise before failing.
Don't want to get big? Getting big really isn't possible, your body is predisposed to having a proportional size no matter how much muscle you try to put on, and the only way to achieve a 'big' look is through the use of steroids. Also, women generally don't have the ability to achieve the same look as men because again, your maximum body size is predetermined and proportional. In fact, only women with broad shoulders and thick wrists really need to worry about achieving a physique that may look masculine.
I wrote an article a while ago about diet and exercise for beginners, if you're interested I'll post the information for you. It was originally written to clear up a lot of exercise misconceptions that usually plague women. The majority of the information however applies to both sexes.
While a persons ability to utilitze oxygen does have a max potential, most people are not up to it. It can be increased through cardio. It is one of the energy systems of the body. There's the atp, which is used for extremely short durations, for example weight lifting the lactic acid system, which is used in moderately long for example the 800 meter dash. The oxygen system is used in long distances, about 5k and up. It can be increased, but everone has their limit. - 7 months ago
I agree with putting on muscle however depending on whether or not she has exercised regularly which I doubt is she is over weight.......you shouldn't start out by building muscle on top of fat................my suggestion was to start out with cardio just to get her moving and to start enjoying being active................dancing ,....riding a bike....whatever.......to get her to enjoy being active....... - 7 months ago

Schneiderman, I realize that, and I included this in my article but not my explanation I guess. I did however mention that 'cardio' exercises do provide benefit to the cardiovascular system, however it's so minimal that it's not practical. In fact, weight training and other anaerobic activity prove to stimulate the cardiovascular system more because you challenge your body to work harder. Because of this, the body responds by strenghtening your cardiovascular and pulmonary muscles to keep up. - 7 months ago

For Gia and the asker, you don't actually put on muscle on top of fat. The whole idea behind working out is that you want to create a caloric defecit in your body so that it calls upon fat stores to be used as energy. The caveat to this is that you don't want to consume so little calories that you drop below half of your body's total caloric requirement. This will trigger the onset of a catabolic state and your body will consume muscle instead of fatty tissue. - 7 months ago
Question Asker
Do slimming belts work? - 7 months ago
Answerer
For women, when you put on muscle, you already have a natural layer of body fat covering your muscles. The average body fat percentage for women falls between the range of 20 to 25 percent. Naturally women are curvy and have fat natural stores usually in the hips, thighs, buttocks, and breasts. The fact is that for most women, strenght training won't increase your size, it will actually decrease it because muscle is more dense than fat. The result, you'll achieve a 'toned' look. - 7 months ago
Answerer
No, slimming belts do not work. You're looking for a quick and easy way out, this isn't the right approach. I always say, 'if you're sweating, it's working.' The thing is though, that some activities will produce better results than others. I'll post that article I wrote in a second and include a link to it. - 7 months ago
Crapshoot building muscle is not a quit and affective way of loosing weight if you push your self with cardio work especially focusing on your leg muscle's (larger muscles) you will loose weight faster than by building up muscle. I have done both and with weight training I had increased muscle strength but very little defined muscle but by doing cardio training you loose weight faster THAN with weight training will give the defined look. But with access weight the weight training won't do ..... - 7 months ago

First off, it means what you mean by 'pushing yourself' with cardio. Cardio CAN be effective, I did mention that most people who know what they're talking about in fitness community, i.e. have their masters in Kinesiology and their CSCS designation will agree that strength training is the most effective way.
If by 'push yourself with cardio' you might be indirectly referring to high intensity interval training (HIIT). The thing is, strength training is only one type of HIIT. - 7 months ago
HIIT involves working the body hard enough that you stimulate the anaerobic metabolism where your body burns fuel without oxygen. So, if you're going to do sprints then yes cardio will be effective, however proper strength training will more effective. Again, this is agreed upon by professionals.
The fact that you are making claims without any real evidence other than personal experience is just adding to the amount of disinformation that's out there. - 7 months ago

Actually, there is more to achieving a certain (defined) look than exercise. Strength training involves 80% nutrition and only 20% exercise. They go hand in hand and supplement each other. Because you achieved better results with cardio just tells me that when you WERE working you, you doing it wrong.
Please don't add to the confusion, do some reading of published articles and literature on the subject and stop spreading these lies. Erroneous information keeps exercise myths alive. - 7 months ago

When your overweight and you lifts weights you look fat with bulk. I have seen this happen to many persons. Jesus everyone has to be a god-dam expert. I was trying to encourage the girl to ge moving. If you haven't ever done much exercise......anything is better than nothing. - 7 months ago

I didn't mean to sound combative, it's just annoying that this is suggested as a good method to lose weight all the time. Women are so opposed to putting on muscle because they think that it's going to make them fat, but it does the opposite. Putting on fat actually reduces your lower total body fat percentage.
That said, yes you can look bigger depending on what you eat (or if you have broad wrists and shoulders), that's why I said that you were bang on with the nutrition information. - 7 months ago

The point is that aerobic exercise is not worth the time it takes, this has been widely ackowledged. Over the long run the lack of progress because aerobic activities bring about physcial change at such a slow rate causes people to lose their motivation. For this reason, if you don't want to strength train, you should at least consider SOME kind of high intensity interval training. - 7 months ago
400 cals per day is unhealthy and you may pay in other ways than just having weight loss.
Just as a baseline, you need between 1200 and 1500 cals per day. Lets say 1200 for you to maintain your weight. So you take in 8400 cals per week. You need to burn at least 3500 of those cals to equal a pound loss.
Right now, you're taking in 2800 per week and need 8400, plus you're exercising. You will probably lose between 2 and 4 pounds per week so it will take 6 to 10 weeks to lose what you want.
This is not a healthy diet, but if it's weight loss you're after, then this will do it in the short term.
To raise your metabolism through diet, you should eat small meals every 3 hours and stop after 7pm. Drinking a lot of water keeps you hydrated and fills you up so you don't feel hungry. It depends what exercise you are doing though. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Cardio is very good for burning calories. If you can keep it the diet and exercise up, you will lose 20 lbs in about a month to a month and a half. Just remember that once you stop doing one or both, you will gain that weight back.
To be honest hun, it all depends on each individual. But you do need to eat more so you can raise your metabolism. You're not eating very much and your body is going to store whatever you eat.
Yes but i am having my 3 square meals a day isn't that good enough that's what most people eat - 7 months ago

Lol those aren't square meals silly. Soup and an apple and a slice of toast don't count as 2 square meals. Maybe hexagon, or octagons, but definitely not squares. - 7 months ago
Question Asker
But there still meals they will fill me and ill be eating so I'm not starving like?? - 7 months ago
Answerer
Well hun, if you're talking about losing 20-25 pounds, you should be eating a lot more then that. - 7 months ago
This doesn't look like a healthy diet. It is healthy to lose 1-2 lbs a week. If you lose too much weight too quick, you have more chance of getting them back faster than it took you to lose them. You need to eat snacks in between your meals to keep your metabolism going. 30 minutes of cardio is good because after certain point, your body stops burning fat and start burning muscles. You don't want that. Do weight train. Toned body is HOT!
Eating soup and toast/apple eat something bigger don't over do it though. what you are eating now is 500,690 in the day you supposed to have what 2, something I think it will tell you on the back of stuff you are eating. You should also check on how much sugar is it too cause that's not good either, how long do you exercise for? After my son was born I lost 45lbs within 4 months drink lots of water, and exercise when you can. and it should come off
I can't wait4 months!! ill do an hours excercise a day! yeah I'm ment to have 2000 cals a day but I don't lose weight at all unless I drop my calorie intake by a lot which is weird! I dieted healthy with a 1200 cals a day before for 6months with excercise but didn't even lose a pound - 7 months ago
Um, you're not taking in enough calories. Someone your age needs between 1700 and 2200 calories per day for your body to function properly. According to your diet, you're only taking in 506-790 calories.that's not a healthy diet. Besides, it's not healthy to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time.
