I think you're just going through that hormonal stage, this is the time where your body starts to change and you may feel insecure and vulnerable! I was like this with my dad, still am sometimes, but then i've played sport all my life so i think it's weirder for my dad to see me in anything other than shorts!
Why would he do that?
I don't wear revealing clothes in front of my dad either.
I wear it when he isn't home or if I am in my bedroom, he doesn't just walk in.
Sometimes if he does , I just say, "no, don't come in yet." Etc.
I did when I lived with my dad too
What I did was just wear different pants and when i got to my room, or he went to bed, change into the shorts.
Well I'm a father of 3 daughters and you don't need to feel unfcomfortable wearing shorts, we are thinking of you in any certain way if anything it may make some fathers uncomfortable but you said he makes you leaves open as in unlocked or actually opened as in seeing in?

If you have your own room, you can just wear them to sleep and then change in the morning.
He's your dad. The guy who wiped your ass when you was a baby. Ain't nun he ain't seen already.
Try wearing capri pants or leggings underneath your shorts
