Dude, it could be true in their case, may be they are indeed happy! what makes you presume that they are unhappy or faking happiness? As in you must know something concrete about'em to come to this conclusion. Yes, some people do fake happiness or try to be as happy as they can or find happiness in little things that matter to'em.
Many of'em do fake happiness because they don't want to expose their vulnerable side to anybody, may be those are the people you are talking about yea? Yes, they don't let people come closer to them because they have had bad experiences with people who, they've trusted.
...and then come those, who have sadness in their life but put on a happy face, because they don't want others to bear the brunt of their unhappiness or life's frustrations. it helps them forget their miseries and ailments for sometime and try to think positive..

I'd rather a happy person than someone who complains all the time honestly. I know that sometimes things can be sh*tty but I would honestly rather someone who can let things roll off their shoulders than someone who is gonna complain all day.
Thing is, the negativity can make or break a day. If you hang around someone who is negative, it can make your day really suck. It's gotten to a point where people almost enjoy it and I can't be around that.
We're all different some people are very unhappy most of the time and others aren't, just because someone is happy every time you're around them it doesn't mean they're faking it. Some people are just genuinely really happy 95% of the time, I'm one of those people. There are things in life that frustrate me and make me sad but unless it's something really detrimental I prefer to focus on the positive things because being happy is f***in awesome. I can find happiness in even the tiniest aspects of life and I love that about myself because no matter what happens to me I know I can always find something to smile about.
As for the people who really are faking it, it's usually a defense mechanism. They feel so much sadness and anxiety that they subconsciously deny its existence and convince themselves they're happy.
Hmm... I tend to be really happy 90% of the time. I am not forcing myself to be or putting on a show for others.
People frequently mention that I am happy or look happy or that they hardly ever see me NOT smiling. I am not living for other people. I am living for myself so I make sure I do as many things as I can possibly do that make or keep me energized and positive.
I am sure my consistently happy/positive mood must annoy some people. But, like I have said, this is MY life and I choose to live in a way that I can smile, laugh, and feel good about.
I do have bad days where things go *very* wrong. Sometimes my life is made up of a series of embarrassing moments often interrupted by bad decisions but when I am happy I am genuinely feeling good. ^___^
Because people don't like being around negative people. I would never tell anybody my problems unless they begged and pleaded for me to, which people don't do. So I never talk about it.
People are very selfish, and they won't want to be around you if you bring them down. Some people will care, don't get me wrong, but most don't.

I'm a strange breed, because publicly I act very happy (most of the time). It's not really an act, necessarily. It's more like... having a sense of humor about my self-whatever. Haha! I seem cheerful to a lot of people, because my negativity is a bit jolly sometimes, I don't know how else to explain it. Sarcasm is my primary language, so while I'm getting my point across, it also comes across as humor, which it is that too. It's always a push and pull for me, dichotomy to the max!
As a person who acts very happy all the time, I know I’m not being fake. It’s just something that comes naturally to me. Of course I have other feelings, I just show them to close family members or friends. This is why the “fake” person you see acts so happy all the time, they simply let all their negative emotions at appropriate times.
I would rather pretend to be happy because I hate chewing on razor blades.
Because it's a better alternative
