Are guys always protective of women they love/really like?

Simple question guys and girls.

When guys fall in love, do they NECESSARILY become physically protective of their girlfriends/wives/crushes regardless of girls asking for that or not?

Meaning they want to physically shield their partners from harm and/or make them feel comfortable at the cost of their own comfort?

If this is true, then that could explain where chivalry comes from. Even though most of us girls don't require this knowing guys want to protect us makes us feel happy, thinking it proves his affection.

Is this happiness justified?

Meaning: Do guys do this because they feel they have to to be "polite" or do they do this because they really want to shield the one they love/like seeing her as something fragile.

I'd go as far as getting beat up so she can be safe.

I want to make her feel comfortable and safe at times, but I wouldn't reach option A.

She should protect herself and take care of herself, I have no need to do any of this. (everyone for themselves)

1. Its a human behavior sweet heart it will automatically comes to you if suppose you become a mom of your child what you will do to protect her if some one trying to hit or hurt your child obviusly you will become physically and mentally protective to your child and same thing happens when the guy falls in love with a women its bit different with child and your love of your life but considerably I think its natural and its human behaviour.

2. yes it doesn't require to show any one or to make a girl happy but still a women or girl when his man is walking with her she should feel protective and more comfartable with him at least hoping that when she is falling on road wen she is walking he should be capable of holding in his arms till the time girl get fall on road and make herself mess and with dirty cloths..hahaha don't mind.

NO we don't need to do this its natural as I mentioned you in the above first point its human beahaviour I will giive you one example for suppose your boy friend is talking to some other bimbo and your seeing it and still he is talking to her and he is ignoring you how do you feel there would be heat running all over your body and your becoming angry and your blood pressure gose to 140/110 and its a bit of time you will get blast and you will do something or the other to have attention of him its a human nature you knwo if you feel yourself comfartable also still it comes to you the same thing happens with guys also...sweet heart... I'd take a bullet for the girl I truly loved, but that's just how I am. There's several factors that seem to influence a guys protectiveness, at least from my observation.

First, there's a natural instinct. If we want to go back to primal era analogies, think of it like this: typically, the man goes out and provides for the family while the mother raises his offspring. If something was to happen to her, he doesn't have that nurturing instinct to raise them as his wife would (even more so because he's out hunting). If he dies, his wife can find another guy to provide and she can continue raising her children. If she dies, then he has to find somebody (that isn't their biological mother, so she cares less about their survival) to raise the children. Obviously, the better choice would be their biological mother in that regard.

Second, there's the nurture aspect. My dad always impressed the importance of protection onto me (moreso through actions than through words). By example, I pretty much learned that the proper thing to do was to protect the women you love from harm, and to fail at protecting was to fail at being the boyfriend/husband. It's pretty much burned into me by now.

Third, there's the (slightly less romantic) issue of protecting your "investments". Think about it: would you really want to lose something you spent so much time, money, and effort on? That's a lot of wasted potential, and it's certainly something I'd get in a fight to protect.

It's nice that so many guys are WILLING to step in there and take the proverbial bullet for a girl they love, but I also think being protective of a person goes beyond just the physical aspect of it, and in that instance it should be a two-way street. Both people try to protect each other from being hurt at all and are supportive. Personally, it's more important to me that a guy goes to the trouble of ensuring my feelings don't get hurt and won't allow other people to disrespect me than if he's going to get into a fight to protect me. I'm not saying, in the unlikely event that a physically threatening situation arose, I wouldn't want a guy to physically protect me, but I tend to use my common sense and instincts to stay out of those situations. I have never actually been in one where I felt my personal safety was an issue I couldn`t take care of, so a boyfriend who will physically defend me isn`t one of the first traits I look for in a guy.

I would fight for my guy so I want him to do the same. now that doesn't mean a guy looks at me and my guy wants to beat his ass. but when someone is givin me trouble and whatnot I want a guy thatll step in and beat sum ass. lol

It is not a phenomena of culture, it is a phenomena of nature. When we were all Homo erectus in order for the male to have children he needed a female. The female could not bare his children if she was dead or taken by another male, so protectiveness is born. In order to keep the female from going to another male the one that she was with would protect her from things that were dangerous, that includes other males, and in return the guy had a chance at spreading his DNA. So what ended up happening is the stronger males would have multiple females and eventually the stronger males found it easier to have several weaker males with him in order to help him get food and watch for danger. This created the tribe mentality. Eventually the weaker males would develop skills that the strongest male needed and they became more useful eventually this led to goods and services being bartered for, and today it is seen in the ever failing USA economy. Now the protectiveness is more of a want to shield someone that they love, but that is not what started it.

It's a machismo thing. I mean when I was with my ex, I felt like she is fragile and beautiful; like a flower, and my ex (as far as I know) is not aggressive nor can she defend herself against any guy. If she is put into an awkward situation are is feeling down, I feel necessary to help her get out of that, physically and mentally.

Just recently she was hanging out with a friend and he got aggressive to the point where he was lashing out on her because she was confusing him (sexually). Even still we are broken up, I still love and care for her and feel like I should protect her. She called me while it was going on and I came over to shut him up and take her home. It's reassuring that she comes to me for protection or empathy, I love it and I don't know where it comes from.

It's that I don't want her to get harmed or in trouble or anything necessarily bad to her and I would protect her from whatever. May it be crazy taxi drivers, Central Park vandals, weird friends, stalkers, creeps, and her father; you name it and I protected her from it.

The whole chivalry thing is because I care for her and is a way to display my affection to her. Because in return, I get her affection of being the one to come to during times when she needs me the most. It's my time to shine and to some extent its part of being a man. To stand up to the people you love and care for, even if there is bloodshed. It makes it that more strong.

It's almost expected of guys to act this way towards girls, I think its part of the culture and the way males and females are stereotyped. I would think most girls like feeling secure, and I'm pretty sure most guys enjoy making their 'girlfriends/wives/crushes' feel safe.

That's not to say that guys act this way because that's what the culture dictates. I believe it just gives us an excuse to shield the girl we feel is worth more than our personal comfort or well-being. This goes both ways; if you really care about someone, wouldn't you be willing to put up with a lot to protect them? Beyond romantic relationships, I'm sure your parents, teachers and friends have put themselves in bad circumstances to protect you. Boyfriends will generally want to show this in a more physical manner, because we're like that, but everyone who cares about you goes about protecting you in their own way.

You are definitely justified in feeling happy about this. Whether he sees you as being 'fragile' or not (a lot of guys would like to think that their girl is 'delicate', though) he's protecting you because he values your comfort over his own. I think that's pretty natural.

A) I would die to protect anyone I deem worthy of such an action. As far as I'm concerned people should protect each other when they are in a position of vulnerability. It would even have to be someone I know well. I have intervened before in a situation where a girl had been attacked by four guys at a party, which by chance I walked into. One of the guys took me on and aside from that, nothing happened. It was worth taking a punch to the face for the knowledge that I had prevented someone elses is pain and for me that is the definition of strength. So yes I would shield whichever girl I fall in love with from physical danger, I would probably do it even if she is not the girl I was in love with. To me it is a question of honour, if I failed to act I would feel guilty, if I failed I would feel guilty though less so than if I didn't intervene. So for me the answer is simple defend and death comes before failure.

We do are naturally protective of something we are about, Me personally I don't do it to be polite I do it because I don't like the one closest to me getting hurt. But that doesn't mean I shield her from life itself. Because I have strong feelings for my girlfriend I would get beat up if it mean she could be physically safe.

I picked option A because I believe that being willing to go that far for someone is one of the things that defines love. Whether it's love for a family member, love for a friend, or love for your significant other, a desire to go as far as you possibly can to protect them is a part of it.

Spikes: We're assuming the scenario is something like she gets into a 1 on 1 cat fight with a girl, or a girl walks up to her and starts to call her insulting derogatory terms. She should be strong enough(mental wise and physical) to handle those situations herself.

Also we're assuming its a simple scenario such as paying the bills. If she can't pay the bills for her apartment/living area, why the hell should I put myself down for her?

I did read the question. but assuming we're talking about only physical it depends on the situation. if she's in an alley with 5 guys who all have knives, of course I'd jump in. But if she's in a 1v1 cat fight or faced with a girl spitting mean insults in her face I'd expect her to handle that herself instead of being "that girl who does whatever she wants and lets her boyfriend protect her" kinda thing
