Obviously men aren't beautiful for biological reasons. We don't have beautiful faces, curves, or any of those feminine physical traits. Which is why I wonder if men have to be in good shape to be considered attractive. I always hear women saying "wow look at those muscles, he is hot." whenever they see a muscular man. I don't think those women are attracted to the muscular man, I think they are just admiring the shape that the man is in. Women don't even have to exercise because they are naturally beautiful for biological reasons. Average Good shape

He was also probably still in better shape than most guys out there as an action star in some roles, and even though he's developing a bit of a "dad bod" lately, it's quite understandable given that he's 51 years old now.
With girls and muscles I find most girls I've met aren't actually that into bodybuilder physique, but they do like a guy who's in reasonable shape with a healthy confident and independent attitude to go with it.
There's a beauty to a good-looking man as well. It's not the same as female, but some of the ancient Greeks adored the male figure, for example.
Anyway, girls can be into all sorts of looks, but it generally helps to be quite healthy. I wouldn't say you need to be a bodybuilder but it does help to have a fairly masculine shape and build. With Keanu he's tall and has the broad shoulders and thick enough chest and arms even if he never had much of a six-pack.
I don't notice women saying how "hot" Keanu is. I usually notice women beng more into the men that are called pretty boys because of their feminine features, no offense to rhose guys. Since I'm a straight man I don't find anything attractive about men, so maybe I'm being biased.
You got all the range of looks -- from Justin Bieber to young Keanu to even Mel Gibson being popular when I was young to Tom Cruise to Brad Pitt to Johnny Depp to Ryan Gosling to Dwayne Johnson to Vin Diesel, etc. But a lot of them glamorized for looks will tend to at least be reasonably fit even if they're not bodybuilder level.
I'm 100% heterosexual but I can see why Ryan Gosling is a hit with the ladies, for example. Difference is that I have 0% interest in sleeping with him. I want to *be* him so that I can get all the girls. :-D Sometimes you start to kind of figure out why a guy is good-looking by just paying close attention to what girls like. It's not interest so much but just maybe envy.
i think you are biased due to media attention towards female beauty. in ancient greece there was more attention for male beauty then female beauty, they thought exactly the opposite of you.
Yes. Well kinda. Species in which the males are way prettier than the females are normally highly polygamous. Most of the females mate with the prettiest male and the males don't pass on their genes at all. Then the females raise their children alone, that's why the men have to look pretty, because that's all they bring to the table. And yes by continously choosing what they percieve to prettiest and nothing else, choices the females made over years lead to development of specific features.
However in species in which the males do take part in raising their children or at least the group does, you can normally distinguish males and females by size, if at all (at first sight). Instead the males usually perform some kind of courtship that shows their parental abilities, such as building a house. And I think we'd agree that's much closer to our own mating strategy
@nalaa thats true, gender specific beauty is determined by female or male selection. since in species that have dominant male beauty there is exclusively female selection.
i can see the benefits of male beauty in these species, but i cannot see the benefits of female beauty in any species besides showing how healthy they are.
Well we don't need an extra benefit because we already are doing most of the work and carry most of the risk. males have to prove themselves worthy of passing on their genes because they don't carry much risk in having children and in many species they do no work at all
Male beauty doesn't necessarily have a benefit either. Peacocks for example attrackt predetors with their color and yet somehow the females prefer it. Well I suppose it's not her problem, he's not watching over he kids anyway
@nalaa well i dont know if you have noticed it but in many animals males are tasked to protect territory and acquire new territory. do you know why lions have manes? because they are most susceptible to attack from other lions and predators of other species. even in our species there is more male on male violence that male on female violence.
in peacocks and other animals biologists have observed behavior in females where they raise their boys to become as 'sexy' as possible. they literally train their boys to become more sexy, this is called the sexy son theory. male beauty in animal species has another benefit. its called a fisherian runaway. a peacock is shit at flying and better at running, yet if a predator attacks him he will still fly away instead of running to mock the predator, which increases survival chances and reproduction rate. so attracting predators is beneficial for species where there is female selection.
I think healthy looks attractive. Slim, average, chubby, lean and toned, and muscular can look attractive. Keanu in your average example looks better to me personally, but everyone has their own tastes.
Okay, just thought it was important to clarify since usually when people say over weight they are using BMI to determine it which is very unreliable in actually determining body composition or appearance. I manage to be over weight by BMI, while having visible abs and concurrently get criticised by women for being too skinny or even scrawny. Body fat is probably better way of measuring this but even with that most people hugely underestimate their body fat and think they are sub 10 percent as soon as they start to see their abs, when in actuality they are around 15 percent.
There is nothing biological about women being considered the fairer sex, it's cultural, other cultures in history have perceived men to be more attractive.
As for men having to be in shape.. no. Your height, bone structure and facial features are much more important than muscles, which are at best a small bonus on top. Just lol if you think Brock Lesnar is the epitome of attractiveness to women.
We all like different things... I think body builders look weird but that's just my opinion. The next person can say they're super hot. It all depends on the person.
Not necessarily, yeah a good body helps and some girls who work out a lot will probably expect the same from a guy. But usually, no, face/grooming is what makes a guy physically attractive.
There are so many average looking guys at my gym and some of them I would rate a 3 in terms of looks but because their bodies are perfect they look like a 10 to me, granted they're not assholes.
How is it biased? Ask any straight man, he'll tell you the same thing. Unfortunately us men don't have beauty. I've never heard a man get called beautiful. Ivecheard men get called handsome but that's less than beautiful😢.
