It's probably just a typo on his part. I know my gf hates that word too. She says goodbye are something that is long or can be final. So it's always goodnight or when we leave to go places separate she just like it if you say "bye see you soon" or just "see you later".

Semantics.
Both mean goodbye, but goodnight means he is wishing you well.
He probably typed it wrong but if it bothers you speak to him and tell him that you were worried about it. Tell him how it makes you feel if. you dont tell him he won't know
Don't worry about it. Maybe he typed it out without really thinking about it much. I wouldn't say there's much of a difference. You're overreacting.

You're a sensitive being, arn't u? I guess you just had an animated clingy chitchat and maybe, i'm just saying maybe youwere reluctantly to put the sweet time in a little rest, and he had already wigwaged some words that wanna take a break, so after a lot of giggles meant goodnight and didn't work, it would be more sensible to place goodbye to be a real cut off.
Maybe i'm wrong, maybe you could try not to make it a big deal.It might have just been his phone incorrectly predicting the word he was trying to wright and he was too tired to realise the mistake.
It takes less letters to write "bye" than "night". It's more economical, but means much the same.
