What does "let's see how it plays out?" mean to you?

I have been seeing a guy for about 3 weeks. Then he decided to tell me that our time would be limited on the weekends due to a few things he has planned coming up and he needs to do some things with his 17 year old son. He doesn't want to break it off but says "let's see how it plays out?" What does that mean to you, and would you wait for a couple weeks to see if this is going to work or not?

that's called gambling or fate intervention deciding where the relationship goes...it's a callous excuse for letting the dice roll and see what luck comes up or not
