Forced break up or a set up lie?

I dated this guy for 3 months, Me a 17 yr old female and him, 16 year old male, everything was going well. One day, he told me he was crying and I ask why. He said that his parents are forcing us to break up because his sibling got into an incident 2 days before he asked to break up, and his parents thought that he was too young to date and the same thing might happen to him. He told me that he is now not allowed to date until he is 18 and he can never text or talk to me ever again. I asked him if he wanted his stuff back and he told me to keep it as a memory of him. We called and I offered that we could keep it a secret, but he said we can’t because his parents can track his every move. I also asked to talk to his mom about it to clarify what was going on, but he kept on saying that his mom didn’t want to talk to me. He also said that he will love me forever, but I have been overthinking that this might be all a lie and that he just didn’t want to break up with me in a harsh way.
