my dads soon 2 be ex wife wants “her” dog back just because she knows how much he means to me. she got him 2 years ago but only kept him for about 2/3 weeks. she had been abusing him to the point where all you would hear was his little crying and it broke my heart completely so i talked to her after a while about how i can take him in my room so she could “ have a break” she agreed and after that she never did anything for him again. she even moved out 2x before and left him with me both times and even got new dogs (that she doesn’t have anymore bc she loses interest in them and gets rid of them). he’s under her name and i know she won’t put him under mine and has threatened to have someone come get him but i know shell do something to him or send him to the pound and he won’t survived there because he’s so scared of the world due to his abuse. he sees a stranger and he instantly pees and shakes and feels like they want to hurt him.. he’s only close with my dad, my friend, me, and my other 2 dogs.. and now she wants to take him away. do you think i’d be able to appeal in court or if i told the officers about everything if they come they’d let me keep him?

Have you ever taken the dog to a vet? If it were in your name, that is prima facie evidence that you, not she, is the actual owner. Is the pet chipped? Document everything and challenge her in court if necessary. You likely have a strong case that she abandoned the dog to your care, but you need to have it documented.

Perhaps if you have evidence of the animal abuse, I think you are better off buying the dog from her ass, or give it to someone else and say it ran away and when she leaves, bring the G back to the house lol

When you let someone else hold down the dog for you, you ask the ex wife if she has seen her dog and clearly she will say no cause you finesse that jhit, then everyone will look for him and give up at some point and think it ran away

How is she going to take the dog? Where is the dog now? She can't just come there and demand the dog back. She'll have to file a court case. Seems unlikely.

You need proof that you have been taking care of the dog. If you've been buying the food, or taking him to the vet, save the receipts. You need documentation of everything.

She cannot. It wasn't hers to begin with. You can actually file charges on her if she does steal the dog. You can also report her to the aspca about her abusive behavior towards the dog.

Is he microchipped? Or is she the owner on paper?
