sure there are guys that do. and everybody that saying No, obviously never met such a guy. never assume that a person is romantically interested when they may or may not be. if you feel that the person is then you need to personally ask them. what matters is that you are honest and truthful and they respect you within that same light. overall anybody that cares about you would want to at least try to talk to you and say goodnight either way.

My best friend is a woman and I call her like, once every week or two. It's more of a "hey are you still alive or do I have to find somebody else to go drinking with?" kind of thing.

As somebody who hates texting over everything instead of a simple live conversation on the phone where response time is very limited I'd say that's a pretty romantic thing to have and you should cherish it!
