Did I mess up a date refusing a kiss?

Was on a date with a guy I've known for a few weeks. It was the second meet up.
During the date he touched me a few times and I did not refuse because I was kind of shellshocked.
At the end he went for a kiss but I was too shocked to reciprocate it and withheld myself.
It was too sudden for me and I thought the moment was not ideal.
I thought maybe on the third date I would have responded differently but now it feels awkward.
I have told him upfront that I am person who needs more time than average to become touchy feely and he was fine with it but I guess he is trying to test the waters.
To clarify my nervousness, I have never dated before, haven't had a real kiss yet also he doesn't know about it. So I am really super nervous about this. And am constantly thinking he will notice I have no idea what I am doing.
Told me it was fine afterwards and I don't need to worry. Was this a mess up or should I not worry?

I sure he understands. He was probably a little gutted, but if you keep showing interest in him, I'm sure he'll keep giving it back. But if you like him, try not be afraid of a little intamicy

No you didn't just dont let any guy force it on you. Kiss when your ready if dude dont like it then he is worth the wait.
