What do guys think of a girl with a Southern accent?

I’m from Texas and I have always hated my voice my entire life. My accent isn’t too harsh, but it’s definitely noticeable.

I know other women from work and close friends who have Southern accents also and we can all agree that we’re concerned how non-Southern people think of our voices. Especially guys when it comes to dating.

That is southern women's problem. Southern women thinks we ( I am from the Bronx ) think less of you or that you are dumb all that bullshit. Up north we think you are beautiful and cook good and we like your voices. When we move down south, southern women ( prejudge ) us throughing that Yankee stuff in our face. First of all we know nothing about the civil war and we don't actually not interested unless you have some fried chicken , beans and corn bread.
All southern women sound good. Some sound like they are speaking another language but they look good too!
We don't say , honey, darling, etc up North.
We I moved south I thought I was a freaking player because the cashier at the gas station called me honey, coworker's called me honey, I felt good until I learned that was southern thing, dang man and I am a geek too.
Anyway, your voice is fine, southern women smile and it's pretty, y'all grow the biggest natural boobs and butts you ever want to see.
When I moved down south I said, look at all of these natural boobs. The church is like a BUTT FARM dang!

I originally lived in Michigan and grew up around a southern family. I don't have a southern accent myself and growing up I never realized that a lot of people in my own family have a southern accent. I just figured before moving to Texas a few years ago that the typical southern accent was quite different.

A guy probably won't care or notice unless it's on such an extreme side where someone thinks you're from Louisiana or West Virginia to where you sound like a hill billy.

For what it's worth, I personally love guys and girls with a souther tinge in their voice. Some country singers get me a bit bothered. I know a guy who went crazy for the southern love.

I went down South I thought every waitress was hitting on me until they were talking to my girlfriend the same way , I was like "these chics go both ways YE HAHHH"...

Then I called a woman up here "Darling" and almost got an assault charge. Like it was a terroristic threat.

Whats wrong with a southern accent? I mean I suppose if its a "low brow" southern accent that may bother some people (couldn't imagine who), but honestly I don't see an issue. In fact I like southern accents (southern gentlemen and southern bells, when you hear that you think of a classy southerner, I don't see any negative connations with that). So like with everything, its not the accent its how you speak in general that would have an impact. In fact I think it can be quite charming (I love accents though, they just add to the persons character).

I love this question! I was born and raised in the Midwest (northern Illinois) and moved south after graduating college (NC 8 years, TX 17 and counting) I guess I didn't really think about the accent thing too much until I actually lived in the South. I had two long term girlfriends who had very strong southern accents, and it took some getting used to. We liked fun at each other about it and my friends back in Illinois found just having a conversation with them was the best thing ever. My point is: it's a novelty that I got used to, and it never affected who I dated. If some clown is going to reject you for that he likely isn't what you are looking for anyway.
It's worth noting that having lived in both states that Texas accents are much 'easier on the ears' and smoother than NC accents. There is a BIG difference between the two (to me anyway).

I will have to say that there are some feminine accents that can make me melt like butter. They are, in order:
-A feminine Irish accent
-A feminine Georgia accent (the Mississippi is tied with this)
-A feminine Texas accent

I have to admit, as an Englishman, I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan. I'm sure it can be nice though, providing the woman is nice! There's a lot of variations, some sound totally different, some sound not so strong at all, so it depends on which. Generally an American accent is very appealing. As I say, providing the lady is not a fruitloop!

My parents are from the southern US, I lived in Texas for years. I find a Southern accent grating. But it's not just the Southern accent. The Long Island accent, Boston, Appalacia, Western Pennsylvania are not something I would want to hear for the next 30 years. OTOH I find some accents from other English-speaking countries charming -- Ireland, Australia, some English accents but not all. Maybe I'm just a snob.

I really get crushes easily on girls with soft, sweet, southern accents. They have that sing-song kind of intonation that makes whatever their saying sound more wholesome and cute

My voice is Michigan Ohio if that allows you to understand it better for some reason I like when people have accents it's just satisfying to hear them talk differently
from what I hear normally my favorite accents are Australian, and British, but I like most accents I am also a bit of a voice actor myself and can do many voices including southern in fact my Dad's from Louisiana and maternal family Tennessee

For me it is a huge turn off. I don't know why, but I just really dislike that tone of voice. I would never be rude or tell her that. I don't represent all men though. I'm sure plenty of guys like southern accents.
