Guy says you were his first choice, but he asked second choice instead?

What does a guy mean when he says “you were my first choice but I asked my second choice for drink instead cause idknif you were available?” But he still goes
out of his way to stop and sit with you twice a day and bs at work?

He sounds like a huge asshole. ”First” and ”second” choice wtf? I wouldn’t want him even I were his ”first choice”. Someone like that obviously hasa shotty personality and messed up values.
