Why is did this guy who I dated match with me on tinder and is keeping me on tinder?

We dated for a few months but I’m going away for my masters to another country for the next 7 months. He wanted to continue seeing me but we both agreed to stop and not try LDR because we both have bad feelings about it but he definitely has feelings for me, and we talk every so often. We both agreed to meet up once I get home and to keep in touch just casually until I get back.

We both have tinder and we matched a month ago. I leave in 2 weeks but we aren’t seeing each other or anything before I leave. Why would he have matched and kept me on his tinder?
