My boyfriend jokes about breaking up what should I make of it?

My boyfriend jokes about breaking up out of the blue. We were talking and he suddenly said his dog asked him to break up with me then last night he says shawn and camilla broke up everyone is breaking up let s break up as well. I don't really understand. We are great together and before him bringing this up we were having a fun conversation. I kind of want to ask him up front but I kind of don't want to be a wuss who cannot take a joke.

It sounds rather shady to me… since breaking up is not something to joke about. Simply, since there is always a chance that someone may take it more seriously than it was meant to be. Kind of like what you are experiencing at the moment. I would just take it at face value, a joke, and be wary of any other signs that it wasn't a joke at all.

Ok, I see that most on here are advising you to talk to him about this. However, if you do so… you will be forcing him to decide about what he should do at this very moment.

Now, if you really like this man and want to keep him… don't you dare bring this up in his moment of doubt! We all have times when we question if the path we are following is really where we want to end up at… do not force him to choose during these times of doubt!

Unless, of course, you have already picked someone you would rather be with than him… Well then, good on you… you just avoided being the evil one in this breakup.

But he is having those doubts now what are the chances he might be sure he wants to be with me in the future? He and I have been dating for the past 5 months now. I have feelings for him and he claims that he does too but this random talk got me questioning. Should I still hold back?

We all have those moments of doubt, for whatever reason. Just making sense of it all in our minds is enough to make us realize that we have a good thing going and don't want to lose it. Don't push it unless he is constantly bringing this up and if so, then and only then confront him. When he does say something like that, tell him it makes you very uncomfortable and wonder where you really stand with him.

Certain things shouldn't be played about or joked with. The question is... why is he bringing it up playfully? Talk to him directly about it. Ask why and if he intends to break up soon. If not, to stop joking about it. And if so, let's get it over with now.

Sometimes jokes hold a certain truth. Me and my man have had some heated arguments lately, but we would never joke about breaking up with each other. I think you need to talk to him and ask him what he wants
