Women - when is it ok for a man to approach you?

I've been getting out more a lot lately, and it got me thinking that I really haven't done much flirting or anything since pre-covid. So that brings me to my question - what are acceptable and attractive locations and activities for a man to approach you? I'm not trying to go and hook up with someone I've just met, but it would be nice to make some friends, get a bit flirty, and go on a few dates. But I don't want to annoy women by approaching them at the wrong places (work, the gym, etc). Thoughts? Men's opinions welcome too
