Is he even worth the effort anymore?

I was seeing a guy for about a month or a month and a half and for awhile things were going pretty good, we had fun on our dates and talked every day. There was a few times stuff came up money wise or with his kid and I was always understanding and helped paid for our dates. He suddenly wanted to see me after he got off work one day, which I did meet with him, but our original plans for the weekend he canceled cause his kid was sick. The day after he wanted to see if I wanted to watch fireworks, but I already had plans with friends so wasn't ditching them. He commented about it seemed about the right time to make things official which caught me off guard, and I felt I needed a little more time. He seemed a little upset but understanding I just thought it was rushing a little. After that I've tried to make plans to hang out with him twice but something always comes, it's making me feel kinda like my own needs aren't being met and I'm getting frustrated/impatient as it hurts. I really like him and he's a nice guy but I'm not sure things are working out. I never even get a apology when stuff comes up, I'm unsure if its worth it anymore

Dating people with kids is always a compromise, you will always come second and you need to be okay with that which might be why he wanted it to be "official" for that security for his child
