My best friend (39 years) and my son (25 years) recently told me (44 years) that they have incredibly strong feelings for each other and want to be in a relationship. However, they said they deeply value their relationship with me and care about me a lot. Consequently, they wanted to let me know and ask for my blessing. I was shocked I couldn't give them a real answer at the time. I'm really trying to work through what I think about all this. First of all, it's just plain weird. Not only is there a huge age gap, but she's my best friend and he's my son. Those are two people who just aren't supposed to go together romantically. The idea of them sleeping together just makes my skin crawl with how weird it is. Moreover, if things don't work out that might make things between all of us more complicated and difficult. Given the age gap, that may be likely. On the flip side, if they actually make it far enough into the relationship she's not going to want to wait for kids (which could be difficult for my son). This relationship may be a terrible idea. Conversely, after giving it some thought, I can actually see why they'd be interested in each other. They're both physically attractive. They've always gotten along super well and it's always been clear they like each other a lot (I just thought it was as friends). Despite the age gap they do have a lot in common. My son is very mature for his age and my friend is honestly a bit immature (in a good way). Consequently, they're probably compatible maturity wise. They've also both got solid jobs and steady employment (so that won't be an issue). When I'm not feeling weirded out I can actually see why they'd be really compatible. Also, she's an incredible woman and he's a great guy. Maybe they would be great for each other (even if it's weird).  (a little more to read)
