Is dating a lost cause or a fantasy for a man in his late 40s with little to no dating experience?

I'm a man in my late 40s. I have never been in a relstionship and have little dating experience (bad life decisions).

With what little time I've spent dipping my toe into the dating pool. It seems like I'm the poster boy for what dating experts and other women tell women to avoid.

I didn't think I was a red flag. I'm mature. Hard working. A good conversationalist. With one area where I would fumble more. Basically, I didn't think I was trash to be discarded.

If it is, that's OK. I'll stop trying. Being a man, I've grown up accustomed to being alone. But, it would be nice to know, so I don't waste my time or anyone elses.

This should be an interesting read. Let's hear those opinions.

Dating is really a lost cause because more often than not, the relationship does not last or lasts only a short period of time.

I guess that being in the late 40s, your aim is to get into a long term relationship. At least I hope it is.

Now, you state that you made bad life decisions that have impacted on your dating ability. As long as those bad life decisions are not of a criminal nature, I believe that you have the same chances as anyone in the same age group. It would be illusory to think or believe that you have the same pool of girls as if you were 18 or 25.

A good starting point would be to join a club or take up a hobby where you are likely to find people in the same age group and that share the same interests as you do. That would be a good starter. Good luck.

It is never too late in my opinion. Is it going to be far more difficult than other men with experience? Probably so. Everyone has their own preferences so what is important to some won't be to someone else. It is a matter of finding those people who wouldn't be bothered by a lack of dating history.

It's not a waste of time or a loss cause. But you need to learn some things. And I say this from my own experience trying to find a guy around my age to get into a relationship with.

Don't waste time worrying about your lack of experience. Don't even bring that up in conversation. It's fine just to say your nervous or pretty new at dating.

Work on yourself. Most profiles I see of men in their late 30's and up are hideous. Seriously. Look groomed. Take care of your skin. Wear nice clothes. I've lost count of the big bushy wirey looking unkempt beards that are a right turn off. (A neat trimmed beard can be good). In fact only have a beard if it suits you. Not if it ages you!

Take good pictures of yourself! Don't try to be "funny" or "sexy" pouting in bed. Turn off!! The number of guys I have started off thinking hmm.. possible... then get a really ugly picture of him sticking his tongue out of angle that makes his eyes pop like goldfish bowls with a big forehead. No. Just no.

Profile bio. Don't come across sad or depressed or like tye world is terrible and your one big victim or this dating game lotto. Put some basic likes and dislikes. Maybe what you are looking for. Not what u are not looking for.

And lastly remember.. competition is fierce for men. You are gonna hard to swipe a lot! Be active to get matches. Even if seems ages before you get a match. Women, well, we have a lot of choice. Unfortunately 90% are waste of time guys not looking for anything real. Or creepy. Or something else. It takes us time to weed out the rubbish. And then go the cycle again. So your turn may yet come around. Be patient.
